Well. Well well well. What have we got here? It looks like a well balance, non-skewy Meatfist list without Kragnos! And it’s only gone and gone 5-0!
So let’s try and break down how. The first obvious synergy is the two Brawlerguts Tyrants in Meatfists – what this means in practice is they’re doing charge mortals equal to on 3+s on dice equal to their charge roll. So that’s already a spicy little duo of pot-bellied rockets. The Firebelly is enjoying a bit of a resurgence in this season, mainly because of his Billowing Ash spell, which is a 12″ aura of -1 to hit, which is obviously fantastic and can now more reliably forced through with primals. You’ve also got the typical FloSH because it just represents too much utility and threat projection to leave home without.
Making up the ‘meat’ of the list are 2 units of gluttons and some Ironguts, who all received points drops recently making them much more viable. And with the +1 to charge mortal rolls from their sub-faction, are all looking for 4+ (while they’re over 2 models). The foot lads can be surprisingly slappy, and the Ironguts mean a once per game double-fight activation where necessary to tip the scales.
Rounding out the list and fitting nicely into a 2-drop, are two little bits of fun tech. Gnoblars are perennially fantastic screens who can punish people for getting close with yet more sneaky mortals, and the lone Gorger is an off-board piece for helping score Surround/Destroy or threatening a back objective. They also have the additional tech for turning off battleshock immunity and rally if they’re engaged, which in concert with another charge can potentially be devastating.
All told, the list clearly just works. It’s big, it’s slightly clever, and it’s frankly very honest. Love to see it going 5-0.

Keegan Graves: Essentially the list is built around superior combat tricks, counter charging, and threat saturation. I have 5 units that do good damage in melee, and 3 that do ranged mortal wounds from spells and prayers. Then the list is designed around enabling those damage sources.
Three clawsteps ahead is the strongest ability in the skaven battletome, by far. It gives the list so much consistency in movement, and so much flexibility in the combat phase. The extra pile ins, combined with 3” melee on the verminlords, fight on death, and the consistent charges, allows me to pick good activations to get the best value out of my melee troops, as well as extending my melee threat ranges significantly. This also combos well with the warp grinder, who usually deep-strikes a unit of censers to the battlefield, ready to fish for a 9” charge. With 3 clawsteps I essentially get 3 tries for the 9”, 1 with a prior unit, and the censers themselves with a reroll.
The plague priests and wizards give my army essentially a 13” kill box. Skreechs warscroll spell and the great plagues especially can gun down something with an average of 15 mortal wounds when I focus the two. It helps with dissuading people from charging my lines, as well as clearing space for my units to charge.
The list, simply put, just pumps out damage, everything in the army hits like a ton of bricks, from the verminlords to the hellpit to the censer bearers. The list can snowball very fast and is designed to secure games in the first 2-3 turns, to make up for skaven struggling on the tactic side.

Roland Rivera: Another week, another Glottkin list with a podium result – seems like that points cut is making quite the impact. The metagame shifting to be more melee-centric doesn’t hurt, either. This list is an interesting spin on using the Glottkin, however, as Drowned Men is usually not the subfaction chosen for that sort of list, as going heavy on Pusgoyle Blightlords typically burns through your points allotment in a hurry. However, with a bit of compromising on his Fly count, Raymond has made it work.
This list has paired The Glottkin with some interesting dance partners, as it features both a reinforced unit of Plaguebearers (useful for pinning opponents in place with big blobs of bodies) and Rotmire Creed (useful for peppering the opponent with shooting). It also features a Lord of Afflictions with Overpowering Stench as a way to shut off commands.
In summary, this list seems to be the result of mashing the two best-performing styles of Nurgle together to see what happens, but the end result seems to be strong enough to perform well.

Craig Ellis: In terms of support there are 2 GoS with their excellent +1 to wound aura, healing spell & one with Merciless Blizzard (extra primals needed from the acolytes battalion) & Shademist (-1 to be wounded on a unit) on the other making a unit extra hard to kill. This durability is helped with the Krulghast -1 to damage in melee aura. The Generals command trait extends the Aura of Dread trait to 6” away, meaning he’s extending the range of denying Inspiring Prescence, helping with battle tactics and also adding a bit more damage (Lady O’s lifting the veil ability adds +1MW if the enemy is terrified!) Lady O herself provides that once-per-battle bringing back models to every unit in the army to keep stuff around a bit longer, and a 5+ Command Ability deny from 12” away to help deny crucial Redeploys or AoD’s. Her Lifting the Veil is great for sniping foot heroes (don’t roll a 1!). The spirit drain spell she’s been given adds to the anti-horde theme. All of this helps charge up the Black Coach, as the dice ticks up every time a model dies within 12”, meaning he’s going to be getting multiple attempts in the game to unleash the 3d3 MW rocket from the Coach, with its Evocation of Death ability. The Suffocating Gravetide is the cherry on top for those hordes, providing a serious threat to large model count units, as well as being a giant base for controlling enemy movement. The main weakness is staying in power. If he gets drawn into any attritional lengthy combats, he’s going to lose. Anything getting a successful alpha into this is going to put some serious hurt in, too. Careful deployment is required as there aren’t too many screens unless you count the banshees. It’s will require careful positioning to strike at the right time without being left open to the double turn.
It’s aggressive, has high output, scores well, and doesn’t care about the Nighthaunts main weakness, being its susceptibility to the hit back. Very nice.

Roland Rivera: The Glottkin claims another set of victims! The mobility and board control that Blightkrieg provides adds another dimension to many Nurgle lists, and this is no exception. This list features the classic dance partner for the big fella in Orghotts Daemonspew, who packs a punch and is also tough as nails.
However, this list has no shortage of capable units to Blightkrieg with, as Bloab Rotspawned and the 5-man unit of Putrid Blightkings are also decent options. Heck, the 20-man unit of Rotmire Creed will do in a pinch, though they do their best work sitting on an objective and firing away.
Speaking of objectives, the 10-man units of Plaguebearers make for quality objective sitters, as they are cheap units that count for a significant number of models and are not easy to clear, especially later in the game when they can be potentially complemented by a summoned-in Sloppity Bilepiper. All in all, this list leverages the power of the Glottkin well, and as such is a contender.
So there’s probably no better timing for releasing a top three on an event than the day after a load of controversy gets talked about at said event?!

I’ve a 2-for-1 for you today because I’m not very organised, and my head has been filled with GT planning (no excuse!). So I rather stupidly asked both PlasticCraic (thanks again Pete – check out his site if you havent already!) and Phil Marshall to comment on these lists! So you have the benefit of both the players’ point of view and an expert AoS Analysts point of view..
Phil Marshall: Gloomspite Gitz – Jaws of Mork – How did it work?
I decided to go back to my routes and play an aggro combat army. Gitz the moment are super versatile and play lots of scenarios extremely well. With this edition lots of scenarios are fight in the middle and Gitz really lean into that. Yes, they have had their fair share of points increases but the army is still super strong with all the buffs and debuffs within the list. Lets take a note of a few of the key buff pieces, Skraggy knowing the full spell lore and also being able to help dictate battle tactic scoring by being able to manipulate the moon placement. Squig boss with the pre game move and MWs in addition for squigs, honestly its mental how far that unit can move in the turn you commit to this, in addition to this you have the clammy hand command trait to try and get two units out of the shrine. Madcap & Webspinner the combo allows you get acolytes in for hoarfrost, without being able to receive the commands on squigs hoarfrost works as your all out attack as minimum but when you can be hitting on 2s at potentially rend 3 with 150 attacks you really do see the value, the madcap also has moonface mommet to give a unit -1 to their save. Sneaky snufflers, 2+ 5 up ward yes please but oh wait if under the moon and you roll a 5+ you get an extra attack as well; mental. Then my buff piece MVP, these lads are sublime, the -1 to hit aura spell, the no command ability spell stoping redeploy from your none re-rollable charge on the herd, then a static aura of either +1 rend or plus 1 to run and charge. The list is then bolstered out by two units of 5 boingrots to grab objectives, do surround and destroy and clear screens, the real punch comes from the 36 herd and the unit of 15 boingrots.
How did the list play the? Aggressively, but when it needed to be. The way I played the list a lot of the time was as a castle waiting to capitalise on opportunities to explode out of it and ensuring that I was in range of all my auras and buff pieces ready to maximise my next movement phase. Depending on match up would be dependant on what would be used to screen with, if I was concerned about my opponent going first the screen was the two 5 of bounders and the terrain piece (assuming no monsters). Then I would have the hammers sat just off the screen ready to counter charge in my turn and make my opponent second guess about coming in. If I knew I was under no threat top of 1 I would screen with my gobbapalooza and snufflers and leave a squig sized gap as a screen as we all know 25mm is less than an inch so you can move through those gaps. The herd would then be set up in between so that if I wanted to maximise the potential hero phase move I was at no risk of missing out on the buffs from gobbapalooza and the herd at the start of movement. One of the hoarfrost wizards would also be close enough to make sure I can cast hoarfrost. Hoarfrost for me was the main spell I was always trying to cast as it makes the squig herds output substantially better no matter what you roll, I found myself always using it for hit rolls. The herd were always used at the 1st wave to commit and then follow up with the 15 bounders after the herd were now out of the buff ranges. This dual threat is horrible to deal with for your opponent again due to the speed in which your units can get across the table. In my opinion there isn’t a unit in the game that can survive the punch from either of these units when you have the buffs on. In the match ups that were perceived “easier” you can just throw the list at your opponent and its extremely hard for them to deal with, the speed it gets to them, the weight of dice you are throwing combined with the rend and damage made them quite straightforward. In conclusion it’s a super fast aggro army that suits a player that likes to put pressure on your opponent, however, it can play the passive game till you need to push out. It is the complete toolbox of buffs and debuffs that is a real pain to play around for your opponent.
Pete Atkinson: We talk a lot in this game about “skill ceiling”, but less so about “skill floor”. I’d argue that filling your list with Squigs and pushing them forward again and again has an abnormally high floor, in that you could teach a small child to execute and they’d win a lot of games, much like Terrorgheists back in their day. There’s only so badly you can do with a list like this.
All the same, 5-0s with Squigs remain rare, and that’s what separates the Bosses from the Gits. Phil has encountered a broad range of challenges in this event, encompassing high-mobility combat giga-damage (S2D) and Order gunlines with phenomenal straight line speed (Fuethan), as well as highly competitive KO, layered screens in Nighthaunt and ambushing BOC rounding out the opposition¹. Phil managed to react accordingly to opponents that were corner-deployed, well screened or even off the board entirely, and that’s where the skill ceiling part comes in.
In terms of what the list does, it’s really just Squigs 102. I’d argue that Squigs 101 was profiting from the bent Hoppers interaction with Rally (deliberately breaking coherency to get outside of 3″ then Rally back), but since that got swiftly nipped in the bud, these are the standard units you’ve been seeing used in tandem. Gobbapalooza gets you a tough wizard with Recursion which also dishes out -1 rend; Moonface Mommet adds further to the rend jamboree.
Given Phil’s smart use of Squig Lure though (allowing for Squigs to reroll charges when they can’t use CAs at all), I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that he sometimes used the ‘Palooza for the +1 to run and charge ability instead of extra rend. With the Subfaction attacks and Squigboss buffs, the damage is already there, so it’s just the delivery mechanism you need to lock down; and making it impossible to fail a 3″ charge is massive. Those charge consistency bonuses can be the difference between being written about here on Woehammer, and spending the time before your next game pissing and moaning about how your dice fucked you.
Squig Herd in particular love Hoarfrost as a way to fix their 4+ to Hit Roll and it’s notable that Phil has doubled down on that for redundancy, rather than being tempted with Merciless Blizzard. You’re not going to have units camping within 12″ in front of you for protracted combats, because you’ve already Squigged them off the board.
Chuck the Herd forward, merck a bunch of stuff, pop out some Battleshock mortals. Send the Boingrots in next and do the same. Then rezz back your original Squigs (with the Clammy Hand CT to help) and at that point your opponent probably shakes your hand.
I played a tiny handful of games with Squigs myself when the book first dropped and that was enough for me to get bored (I’m talking Early-Third-Edition-Giants-Standing-On-Circles levels of bored), but the fact remains that guiding them to the full 5-0 is an extra level of challenge, and one that very few have proven capable of thus far. If you’re looking for a way to hit consistent rankings points for your local Masters though – or just keen to chase a podium – then I’d suggest you look no further, because this list is as tight as an Allopex’s arse. Everything is geared towards and refined around executing your gameplan, with vigour and consistency. Ruthless.
¹Bear in mind I haven’t seen the full lists Phil played against – but looking at the Factions and Subfactions he encountered, we can have an educated guess.
Army Faction: Soulblight Gravelords – Army Type: Vyrkos – Grand Strategy: Empire of Corpses – Triumphs: Indomitable

Michael Attali: This was a test for the WCW in Atlanta where I’ll be representing France (as I did during the AoS worlds Team’s Tournament).
So Vyrkos is the best sub faction in my advice (tactic and strategy wise) even though LoN performs more, I have seen that it is more due to the fact that most people don’t know how to play against LoN.
The main part of my army is 120 zombies (60-40-20) seconded by 20 skeletons to be buffed by Gorslav with the Ulfenkarni Phylacteri. The aim of this portion of the army is to take primaries with it’s board presence. and recursion.
Belladamma with 2×10 Wolves, serves as a shield for the zombies during deployment and to click units or far away objectives. A third pack is set up by Volga to protect herself with the Vyrkos heroic action. Volga can pin some units with the lycancurse, creating more wolves and more recursion.
The three parts click together perfectly, I usually do all the primaries and secondaries. If you come at me you are pinned by the zombies and showered in debuffs. I can then counter attack with Under the killing Moon + Hoarfrost+ Danse Macabre (and maybe blizzard).
The grand strategy is easy against most armies except, for example, against Benjamin Savva on Nexus collapse, who had low damage input, so I had to put 3 units in reserves (40-20 zombies and 10 Wolves) and never bring them to the table. So, from turn 4, I would be able to bring them on with Gorslav, but you do score the maximum amount of points most of the time

TOTAL POINTS: 1980/2000
Carl Stokes: Everyone knows I’m a fervent believer in the Gospel of Gotrek, and it’s lists like this that reinforce why he’s just such an incredible asset for KO. One of the major weaknesses of KO as a faction is their inability to reliably handle fast chunky monsters that can catch our boats and survive being shot long enough to make mincemeat of our troops. This is where Gotrek steps in and immediately turns challenging matchups into easy wins.
The rest of the army is also classic and battle-tested. The shooting-themed ironclad full of thunderers and characters with the Admiral-Khemist-Navigator combo designed to automatically unbind a single vital spell once per game while providing some movement shenanigans and consistent unbind attempts is something everyone expects to see when playing KO. Add in 20 arkanauts to screen and hold backfield objectives and there’s the army.
Which brings us to the greatest Old World Dawi to ever wield an axe… Gotrek! When wielded appropriately, he provides an immovable bulwark and melee blender that can reliably remove almost anything in the game. He’s the sort of model you run into the midfield and then just threaten the meat of your opponent’s army every turn. Sure, you may not reliably make a 10” charge, but you only have to do so once and you win the game. Worried something might get into the ironclad? With Gotrek around, nothing is gonna want to be within about 12” of his small but mighty footprint.
Specifically, he provides a way for KO to immediately remove things like Kragnos, Stonehorns, blobs of infantry, blobs of cavalry, blobs of monstrous infantry, etc, etc. People often forget that it’s fairly hard to pile in a blender unit into Gotrek to maximize their attacks into him, which means that units of 6 pigs or necropolis stalkers just simply can’t get enough models in combat to take him out before he minces the squad. And reducing all damage to one BEFORE his 3+ ward means that it’s reeeeeally hard to take him out (plus don’t forget he can Heroic Recovery if need be)!
Just to hammer home how stupid high Gotrek’s output is, I’ve included a little damage table of his average output into various saves:
Except that’s only one activation. And he gets to fight TWICE per combat phase. So yeah, that’s why he’s the Goat..rek.
As for the way this army plays, it’s fairly similar to many other top KO lists. You’ve got the incredibly high output shooting with 4+ rally for the thunderers and ironclad support backed up by ancillary characters designed to get the most out of both the thunderers and the boat. This is the sort of army that will absolutely dominate any low objective battle plan while likely going down early on points when playing multi-objective scenarios. But it rarely matters, since you’re just going to be erasing your opponent with overwhelming firepower and smashing them with Gotrek if they try to threaten your firebase. An incredible list and an excellent result. Well done!

Geir Vedeld: What I like the most here is that it has several strong elements. It plays well on Battle Tactics. It has a strong control / alpha element combined with the opportunity to slow play.
The lone Mounted Chaos Lord can flank easily. He would, of course, be better on Karkadrak, but the list is 2000 points on the spot. He supplies the list with the battle tactic Lust for Power, which is otherwise harder to get to. With Conqueror’s Crown, he takes objectives from Chaff. Also, he is difficult to kill for chaff units, making it an investment for the opponent to take him out.
The 3-man unit of Varanguard is an MVP. It can either be sent on a mission alone, killing as many small units as possible before dying. Taking out 200+ points with it at an early stage is often quite important late game and ruins plans and battle tactics on the other side of the table.
The drawback with the Chosen is that it is slow, and the Knights of the Empty Throne sub-faction gives speed and punishes the opponent for making mistakes in positioning, etc. Chosen reduces that opportunity.
The drawback with Varanguard is that they do very little damage if they are tagged (by e.g., Murderlust from Khorne). Without retreat and charge and a corner tag, Varanguard are basically doing very little they are supposed to do.
Roland Rivera: Slaves to Darkness continues its post-Battlescroll ascent with another strong showing. This list pairs the devastating offensive power of Khorne Varanguard with an extra dose of speed by putting them in the Knights of the Empty Thorne subfaction, which enables them to run and charge. On the defensive front, this list runs a reinforced unit of Nurgle Chosen as its solid center that can take a hard punch and give one back. It also features a Sorcerer to hang out near the Chosen, providing Ward saves and Daemonic Power. Lastly, it also adds a dash of board control by featuring Be’lakor and his ability to shut units down for a turn.
Geir has made some interesting choices in support units to set his list apart – he has a rarely-seen unit in the Chaos Lord with Daemonic Mount as a dedicated objective snatcher (thanks to his speed and The Conqueror’s Crown letting him bully 1- and 2-Wound models off objectives) and a unit of Unmade, which project an aura preventing Redeploy and making sure the Varanguard’s devastating charges have a higher chance of hitting home.
All in all, this list clearly plays to the strengths of the Slaves to Darkness force, while featuring some interesting tech that make it quite an interesting read.

Roland Rivera: Somewhat surprisingly, a 3-2 list took a podium spot in this tournament. This list is full of oddities and things you don’t often see out of Slaves to Darkness – it has Be’lakor, which doesn’t benefit from the Cabalists subfaction abilities but is nonetheless a potent control piece. Also unusual are the 2 Tzeentch Heroes with no Tzeentch units, which means that their only targets for Warp Reality are each other.
The troops also feature a surprise in a unit of Chaos Marauders, which are mostly overshadowed by the various Cultist units Slaves to Darkness have access to. Furthermore, the Marks chosen are unusual – you usually see Nurgle on Knights (for The Eroding Icon) and Khorne on Varanguard (to maximize their offensive power) – here, we have the reverse.
While the listbuilding here was clearly unorthodox, the results were good enough to snag a podium spot, so maybe there are some hidden gems in this list that need to be further considered.

The Top Three AoS Lists
Army Faction: Maggotkin of Nurgle – Subfaction: Befouling Host – Grand Strategy: Overshadow – Triumph: Bloodthirsty
LEADERS Be’lakor (340) The Glottkin (580)* – Spells: Rancid Visitations Horticulous Slimux (200)** – General

TERRAIN 1 x Feculent Gnarlmaw (0) 1 x Feculent Gnarlmaw (0)
Roland Rivera: It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Glottkin Nurgle list take top spot at a tournament. The units in this list are fresh off the back of receiving some points cuts, which have allowed it to pack in more bodies to great effect.
We’ll start with the 30-man blob of Plaguebearers, which are likely the Glottkin’s most common Blightkrieg partner. Because this list is in Befouling Host with a Daemon General and Horticulous Slimux, it likely racks up the contagion points needed to summon a Sloppity Bilepiper quickly, and that can combine with 30 PBs to form a wall that can anchor enemies in place and let you grind them to dust, or simply outscore them. It also has Horticulous Slimux and a cadre of Beasts of Nurgle to engage on multiple fronts and spread lots of mortal wounds and disease points around. The Glottkin themselves are a versatile presence, capable of providing damage, durability, a mobility boost, or spellcasting support as appropriate.
The controlling bent to this list is also bolstered by the presence of Be’lakor, which can put your opponent’s best unit on ice for an entire turn cycle, and some Nurglings provide a deepstriking annoyance that can help your contagion point generation. This list will likely be playing some long rounds, but there’s just something deeply satisfying about taking your opponent’s options away and watching them flail helplessly as your victory point lead grows to an insurmountable extent.

OTHER 10 x Chaos Chosen (460)** – Exalted Champion – Icon Bearer – Skull Drummer – Ensorcelled Banner: The Eroding Icon – Mark of Chaos: Nurgle
Roland Rivera: In 2nd place, we have Christopher Johnson’s somewhat unusual Cabalists list. It eschews some of the classic staples of the subfaction (such as Varanguard), runs more Heroes than what we’re used to seeing in Slaves to Darkness lists, and forsakes mark versatility to feature Nurgle on all of its reinforced units. The combination of Nurgle Warriors and Nurgle Knights make for a very durable center, and while Nurgle Chosen are slow, they can still be quite potent offensively.
This list features some unusual Hero choices in the Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Manticore and the much-maligned Daemon Prince. A Nurgle Prince with Wings has its uses, though, as he is a fast-moving, durable utility piece that can turn off Wards and make enemy units strike last. The Sorcerer Lord on Manticore also features a potent horde-thinning spell, which can combine with this list’s sheer bulk on objectives to give you the edge in scoring.
The list is rounded out by the usual suspects in a Chaos Lord as a durable General that can cast Blizzard, the mandatory Sorcerer for his potent combat buffs, and some Cultists to pressure objectives. All in all, it’s refreshing to see some nontraditional lists like this doing well, as it indicates that the recent Battlescroll changes have both improved Slaves to Darkness’ overall positioning as well as its internal balance.
Army Faction: Ossiarch Bonereapers – Subfaction: Null Myriad – Grand Strategy: Overshadow – Triumph: Inspired
LEADERS Arkhan the Black (380) Mortisan Ossifector (120)* – Artefacts of Power: Gothizzar Cartouche – Spells: Merciless Blizzard Mortisan Soulreaper (110)* – General – Command Traits: Diversionary Tactics – Spells: Merciless Blizzard Katakros (500)**
Walter Brock: Hello. We will be looking at my list that went 4-1. With the balance changes to OBR, some things had to change with the points increases and change to Immortis/Stalker healing.
Starting off, we have Null Myriad. It continues to be as powerful as before, blocking powerful spells and letting Bonereapers continue their march forwards. It is important to note that Katakros does not benefit from Null Myriad since he has the Mortis Praetorians keyword.
Overshadow is a different choice from the usual spellcasting savant. We will go more into this later, but where spellcasting savant is a “protect the King” kind of play style. Overshadow lets you be a bit more aggressive with your pieces since you won’t need to be protecting the general all the time.
Going into the units. We start off with the Power Duo of Katakros and Arkhan. We have seen this combination many times before and probably still will. They complement each other very well and keep the rest of the list running at maximum efficiency. From Katakros’s Massive +1 to hit and save aura. Free commands one per turn. A body that hits incredibly hard when near enemy heroes. To Arkhan Having three casts and unbinds with +2 for each. It is an incredibly tough model that is very fast. They each cover each other weaknesses and improve each other strengths. But I could talk about these two all day if allowed, so we are going to move on.
The Ossifector here is the General. Taking diversionary tactics. A powerful 12-inch aura of -3 to charge. Diversionary tactics can make things very difficult for an opponent. Turning 3-inch charges into 6-inch charges alone can make units fail charges that were otherwise guaranteed. For the artifact, the Ossifector has the Cartouche. A 9-inch aura of +1 to wound for friendly Bonereaper unit wholly within range. This will make most units in the Army hit and wound on 2s when combined with Katakros’s Aura. Lastly is blizzard. With the balance update making it so units can not bodyguard the mortal wounds from rolling 1s on the blizzard rolls. Spell casting Savant became less appealing. No one wants to cast Blizzard and then watch the Grandstrat just go poof.
The Reaper was mostly chosen because it was the cheapest option, but it proved to be a very affective piece. Firstly, we took blizzard on the little guy. Two blizzards in the list might seem like overkill, but there’s a purpose. If the first model dies to casting blizzard. We have a second to fall back on. It also hits hard. You can easily get it up to 5 attacks, hitting and wounding on 2s with Katakros and the Ossifector and rend 3 with bludgeon.
Two units of three Immortis as opposed to one large unit of six. With the healing update it became harder to revive several Immortis guard. Splitting the units up allows for potentially reviving more Immortis. These are mostly delegated to bodyguard duty and letting the Heros do most of the work, but they can hit hard when called upon.
A single unit of Deathriders. Fast, can screen, and gives access to an easy battle tactic. These are like a Swiss army knife of units. They have an application for any situation.
The Harvester is the odd one out. No Mortek for it to bring back in the list. It has two purposes here. First is it hits REALLY hard. With bludgeon, The Ossifector and Drain Vitality it can get to an effective Rend 5. Add in hitting and wounding on 2s and Exploding 5s to hit (Empower Nadirite Weapons). Theres not much that can survive the onslaught from this thing. Its also a Monster so it can do all those monstrous actions for added utility. The battle tactic it opens becomes possible very possible once you take all the buffs into account. The second reason we take this. Is to heal extra damage left over on units. The healing Abilities from Katakros and Arkhan can only bring back models when the rest of the unit is at full health. The Harvester helps heal the Deathriders and Immortis models back to full health.
The Shrieker. Honestly in my opinion. Almost every OBR list should use this thing if possible. There are a lot of 5+ wards in the game currently. Reducing a 5+ to a 6+ helps a lot at getting the high-quality attacks Bonereapers have get through. Turning off Inspiring presence and rally can change some matchups drastically.
The Gravetide. This has one purpose and one purpose only. Kill hordes. When combined with the Shrieker this endless spell can be devastating. Rolling over Horde units and killing large chunks of them, while the Shrieker stops Inspiring Presence and make even more flee.
Most of This list fits inside a battle regiment except for Arkhan and the two small foot heros.
The foot Heros sit inside of the Acolytes detachment from the Current GHB. Helping to cast important key spells. Or help stop key spells the opponent wants to get off.
All of this ends up with four separate drops.

Army Faction: Sylvaneth – Army Subfaction: Heartwood – Grand Strategy: Spellcasting Savant – Triumphs: Inspired – Seasons of War: The Dwindling
LEADER 1 x Warsong Revenant (300) – General – Command Traits: Spellsinger – Spells: Treesong, Verdant Blessing 1 x Treelord Ancient (330) – Spells: Regrowth, Verdant Blessing 1 x Spirit of Durthu (350) – Artefacts: Greenwood Gladius

ENDLESS SPELL 1 x Spiteswarm Hive (40) 1 x Suffocating Gravetide (30)
TOTAL POINTS: (1940/2000)
Danny Wadeson: There’s a sense that Sylvaneth are kinda ‘figured out’ at this point – and y’know, is that such a bad thing? In the words of Radiohead, ‘no alarms and no surprises please’. But what we have here is actually a nice balance that you don’t usually see of two big hero trees and a normal Treelord – who are perennially useful for their anti-pile in tech – and a good solid choice of battleline.
Tree-revs were always good for their teleporty shenanigans and their stonks have only gone up this season due to the battle tactic ‘surround and destroy’. The fact it requires you to pick units that are already on the board makes them perfect for it, given they can then zoom off to a board edge. The following turn they’ll also contribute nicely to ‘intimidate the invaders’. Meanwhile, you have good ol’ Durthu and 6 swords tree-pathing around with the help of Spellswarm Hive putting the pressure on. It’s just a solid, compact and elite list that scores well.
It beat out some decent, tanky, and tricksy opponents, which says a lot about the tools of the list. It’s good to see the tree-peeps hanging on in there this season without any appalling jank.

BEHEMOTH 1 x Gothizzar Harvester (160)*
TERRAIN 1 x Bone-tithe Nexus (0)
CORE BATTALIONS: *Battle Regiment
TOTAL POINTS: (1980/2000)
Walter Brock: Null Myriad continues its showing of being the sub faction to stand above the others. Ignoring offensive spells on a 2+ covers a weakness in mortal wounds from offensive spells.
Spellcasting savant Remains a tried-and-true Grand Strat for the Ossiarch legions. Being Reliable Grand Strat with the Immortis protection makes it very difficult for the opponents to stop.
Starting off we have the Big Boss himself. Katakros dials everything up to 11. Giving +1 to save and wound in a massive Aura of 24 inches. Having the chance of bleeding opponents of their Command points and giving a unit -1 to hit all help turn the tide of battle and swing the math in the OBR players favor. On top of all this, Katakros himself when within 3 inches of a hero hits incredibly hard.
The Boneshaper is another unit often seen in Bonereaper lists. Artisans key giving a chance for the Boneshaper to use its healing ability on a 3+. Hoarfrost helps make each unit more consistent. Mortek Guard buffed by hoarfrost become a serious threat.
The soulmason is the general in this list. Because the chair counts as a mount means that the Soulmason can be targeted by ranged attack and the Immortis help protect the Mason from threats. Dark Acolyte Makes the first Ossiarch lore spell cast by the Soulmason unable to be stopped. With the Soulmason knowing every spell on the Ossiarch lore it can reliably get off what critical tool it needs for any situation needed.
A massive unit of 30 Mortek Guard. With the points drop Mortek Guard have become a very efficient unit for their points. Having access to several defensive options from command abilities and receiving the buffs from Katakros can make Mortek very Difficult to remove. With the healing from Katakros and the Boneshaper could potentially return 9 models in each Bonereaper hero phase. Add in the Harvester healing and the Mortek Guard might never go away.
Deathriders are seen everywhere. These have multiple applications. Acting as a screen. Scoring battle tactics. Deathriders act as a Swiss army knife of units. Having an application for almost any situation.
A unit of 6 Immortis guard. Another staple seen in many Bonereaper lists. With the change to healing Immortis/Stalkers, they cannot act as the anvils they were before. Gone are the days of 4 Immortis dying and then watching all 4 come back. Their offensive output remains. Immortis are still great at protecting the General. Lastly is the harvester. With the points drops the harvester has opened as an option recently. Potentially being able to bring back Mortek Guard. Hitting decently hard and opening a battle tactic. The harvester is a cheap option that does a lot of small things that adds up.
All this fits Inside a battle Regiment as a one drop. All together this list has a lot of options and small things that add up to a mountain of potential. Well done to Ben.

Allegiance: Maggotkin of Nurgle – Subfaction: Befouling Host – Grand Strategy: Spellcasting Savant – Triumphs: Inspired
Leaders The Glottkin (580)** – Lore of Malignance: Gift of Disease Horticulous Slimux (200)* Poxbringer Herald of Nurgle (130)** – General – Command Trait: Nurgling Infestation – Artefact: The Witherstave – Lore of Virulence: Fleshy Abundance
Battleline 20 x Plaguebearers (240)** – Reinforced x 1 20 x Plaguebearers (240)** – Reinforced x 1 3 x Nurglings (100)* 1 x Beasts of Nurgle (100)** 1 x Beasts of Nurgle (100)** 1 x Beasts of Nurgle (100)** 1 x Beasts of Nurgle (100)* 1 x Beasts of Nurgle (100)*
1) Summoning: With 3 Gnarlwoods (one extra from sub-faction, one from Slimux) together with the Nurglings deep striking in opponent territory, I have a steady flow of Contagion Points coming my way. I summoned more than 400 points worth of units every game.
2) Denial: Taking up board space, being difficult to kill is main. At some point, the opponent runs out of battle tactics as well, and during the tournament I don’t think I had a game where my opponents managed 5 Battle Tactics
3) Most importantly, the list revolves around Glottkin and his Blightkrieg ability. This is also supported by summoning Sloppity Bilepipers (yes, plural). The only game I was really close to losing was the one where I only summoned one. My first two summons were always Bilepipers, so I could fan out and deny pile-in in a huge bubble.
Countercharge is very strong in this GHB. A lot of battle tactics revolve around making charges. The Glottkin’s ability triggers in the end of the movement phase, making his ability very strong! You have the same dynamic in other factions as well, but combined with no pile-in, it is stronger than the mere countercharge.
The reason for units of Plaguebearers is that they can form a line outside of reach for the opposing unit. Sloppity only stops pile-in for models within 3”, so tagging a unit on a corner with a Beast of Nurgle is not sufficient. Tagging a unit on the corner with a Plaguebearer, leaving the rest of the unit engaged but out of reach on the other hand is much more efficient.
Then the opponent is left with either retreating or standing still. And then you countercharge on the retreating unit afterwards…
Slimux provides rerollable charges for BoN. Meaning that even though you might lose your beast, you will actually stop the movement forward for your opponent, and also stop a devastating high rolled charge killing more than your list can handle.
The list does a fair amount of damage over time, but it is neither mobile nor explosive. So a grind is won over 5 turns, not 2. You need to position yourself correctly at an early stage, because you will not move much further. Therefore the low drop to go first. You both get a Sloppity T1 and a good position.
It is not an S-tier list. There are several ways of playing around the list, and if you know them you should be able to bypass. 3d6 charges from Varanguard, denying summoning T1, retreat and charge from OBR, a large unit of e.g. Blood Warriors locking the army down, etc. Heavy shooting or magic taking out The Glottkin is also a very effective way. He is key to the list.
The list is demanding to play, being purely reactive you need to know your opponent’s armies. But it is also demanding to play against, and you are severely punished for small mistakes on both sides.

Danny Elvestad: So! When building this list and any list really, I look for efficiency. In this case I wanted to maximize my value from Knights of the empty throne. That means as much mounted as possible. The recent point changes let me hit some other breakpoints in units I could bring within the confines of belakor, varanguards and decent magic control. That combination has a huge damage output, stable unbinds, and a great defensive option from belakor. After that I look into making battletactics as easy as possible. I landed on a few key units that smooth up the battle tactic game quite substantially.
Varanguard general – If I meet heavy shooting, I present them as a forward screen so I can preserve the rest of my army and rally these guys every turn.
Unmade – Cheap screen with an amazing ability to stop redeploy. Gives me better options for 4 battletactics and some flex for overshadow grand strat. (Charge 3 units, Lead into the maelstrom, Surround and destroy and the match to ruin)
Furies – Great cheap unit with the option to retreat instead of fighting in combat. Flying and move 12 makes this huge. Gives me better options for early surround and destroy. Cool trick with bait and trap battle tactic where you start with only 1 unit in combat. Retreat the 1 unit, charge furies, activate them first, and retreat in combat. Along with 2 more charges from other units thats 1 more battle tactic done. They can also cover a huge distance with this trick to steal backward objectives and such.
Chaos Lord on Karkadrak – My favorite addition. He is just a good bang for buck now. Run and charge from kotet, extra attacks from Khorne, with a cool trick of getting 2d3 impact hits and strike first when he charges. He is tanky, does enough damage, flexible for battletactics and he actually makes rolling on the eye of the gods table relevant. Stacking rend on him can be quite fun. Running up and stealing an objective or killing a backline hero makes the Lust for Power battle tactic very easy. Also he is a fast piece to carry 1 of 2 artifacts. Either deny models with 1 or 2 wounds the ability to contest objectives within 6″ of him, or stop inspiring presence within 6″ of him. I chose the last one but I regretted it for the tournament. Both are great.
I usually try to max buff 3 varanguards and ship them into the enemy early to remove screens. Then I push up wait for openings to get the rest into the good stuff. While mentally marking out what units I need to kill to secure my grand strat. Save belakor for t2 or t3 usually after killing what ever got sent in to kill my 3 varanguards.
I put a lot of effort in maintaining buff ranges, unbind ranges, and defensive formations with terrain, behind my initial charge with a throw-away unit. (sorry 3 varanguards) And positioning my smaller units so they are ready to do battletactics into the next turns.

Army Faction: Orruk Warclans – Army Type: Big Waaagh! – Grand Strategy: Waaagh! – Triumph: Indomitable
LEADERS Orruk Weirdnob Shaman (90)* – Spells: Da Great Big Green Hand of Gork Wurrgog Prophet (170)* – Artefacts of Power: Glowin’ Tattooz – Spells: Hoarfrost Megaboss on Maw-krusha (450)** – General – Boss Choppa and Rip-toof Fist – Artefacts of Power: Destroyer – Mount Traits: Fast ’Un Gobsprakk (240)*** Orruk Warchanter (120)*** – Warbeats: Fixin’ Beat Orruk Warchanter (120)*** – Warbeats: Get ’Em Beat
Peter Holland: I normally let the professionals comment on lists, but there was none of them available so you’re stuck with me!
Gobsprakk, a favourite of mine, continues to show his face in both Kruleboyz and Big Waaagh lists on the tournament scene. And for very good reason! The ability to unbind spells on 2D6 and then add a further Primal Dice to increase that unbind score, means that Gobbsprakk absolutely bullies enemy casters with his ‘Mork Sez No!‘ ability. To make it even worse, this list has the potential to shove Gobsprakk into unbind range from the first turn thanks to ‘Da Great Big Green Hand of Gork‘ on the Shaman. It means that easy battle ‘Magical Dominance‘ tactic on turn 1 ifKnut decides to go first, isn’t quite so easy. Otherwise, you’re looking at the army staying back (possibly) while building up Waaagh points before slamming into the hapless opposition.
Then you have the solid Ironjawz core of the army, with Brutes and Gore-Gruntas, a couple of Warchanters to buff them and a Maw-Krusha with Destroyer, we all know what they do.
This is the top three AoS lists for the Flying Monkey Con 2023 that took place in the USA on the 23rd and 24th of September. It involved 47 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament.

The Top Three AoS Lists
Army Faction: Blades of Khorne – Subfaction: Reapers of Vengeance – Grand Strategy: Slaughter of Sorcery – Triumph: Bloodthirsty
LEADERS Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster (300)* – Artefacts of Power: Halo of Blood Slaughterpriest (110)* – Hackblade and Wrath-hammer – Prayers: Killer Instinct Realmgore Ritualist (110)* – Prayers: Bloodbind Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage (310)** – General – Command Traits: Unrelenting Hunter – Artefacts of Power: Ar’gath, the King of Blades Slaughterpriest (110)*** – Bloodbathed Axe – Prayers: Blood Sacrifice – Nullstone Adornments: Pouch of Nulldust Skarbrand (380)***
Patrick German: I love this list because Thomas has included a handful of off-meta picks. We’ve talked at length about the Slaughterpriests, Realmgore Ritualist, and Skarbrand, but we don’t see people deviate from certain selections very often and still come in first.
Thomas has opted to use a Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage as his general, breaking away from the usual Fury-thirster. Ar’gath is still there, as it is in most Khorne lists, but unrelenting hunger is a more unique choice. This allows the Bloodthirster to either make a pile-in, normal move, or charge attempt at the end of the combat phase, depending on whether he is within 3″ of an enemy unit or not. Keeping the Bloodthirster stuck in combat with the option of throwing out an Apoplectic Frenzy in the following hero phase is an excellent strategy to quickly cut your opponent down. Using the Rage-thirster in a Reapers of Vengeance list also helps mitigate the relatively poor to Hit characteristic of the Great Axe of Khorne. The potential damage output is great, but only hitting 50% of the time isn’t.
THomas has also included a Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster with the Halo of Blood. You know that usual combination we see with the Bloodmaster + Halo of Blood + Bloodletter bomb? This is the bloodthirster bomb. Commander of Tyrants and Marshal of Khorne’s Legions combined with the Halo of Blood is going to allow the above bloodthirster to fight first in the combat phase and get hit with a free All-out Attack. This is an amazing combo as it allows your ward-denying, mortal wound-causing, axe-weilding general to obliterate whatever he’s in combat with, hopefully before they have the chance to swing back.
Meanwhile, Thomas has two sets of Claws of Karanak, 4 units of Reavers (one of which is the Garrek’s variety), and a unit of Flesh hounds. These are his scoring pieces and will help generate some additional blood tithe as they inevitably die. Of particular note are the Claws, which are more easily able to score early battle tactics like Surround and Destroy due to their pre-game move.
All in all, this is an excellent example of what can be done with the Khorne Battletome, and it’s great to see these experiments achieving first place. Congratulations to Thomas on his victory, and I hope to see more of this creativity in the future!

INVOCATION 1 x Hexgorger Skulls (50)
TERRAIN 1 x Skull Altar (0)
CORE BATTALIONS: *Warlord **Warlord
TOTAL POINTS: (1990/2000)
Patrick German: This is more of a traditional list when compared to the above. Derick has opted for Bloodlords, which is a fun choice. Extra mortal wounds for those two bloodletter squads is deadly, and the fact that you can keep summoning bloodletter units for the rtealitvely low price of 4 blood tithe points means that the fun can continue into the late stages of the battle.
Derick has included two 360 pt bloodletter units which will be doing an average of 20 mortal wounds after a charge, assuming they are fighting backed up by the Bloodsecrator’s extra attacks. The bloodthrone will put in work to keep those letters alive, as his warscroll prayer can bring back D6 bloodletters ona 2+ (assuming he is within 3″ of an enemy unit). He’s also included 2 bloodmasters in his list, one for each bloodletter unit, to provide some extra support and damage.
Past there, Derick has included a unit of Bloodreavers (excellent for taking an objective or dying to generate some blood tithe) and two units of flesh hounds to score battle tactics and grab objectives.
This is an excellent list with a lot of good tools in the toolbox. Derick can threaten large portions of the board, providing a unit that can screen the opponent away from his scoring units while killing enemies off objectives.

Allegiance: Flesh-eater Courts – Grand Court: Court of Delusion – The Feast Day – Mortal Realm: Shyish – Grand Strategy: Overshadow – Triumphs: Bloodthirsty

Battleline 10 x Crypt Ghouls (80) 9 x Crypt Horrors (330)** – Reinforced x 2 9 x Crypt Horrors (330)** – Reinforced x 2
Hanna Leppänen: This list is a pretty typical “99” Horror list, which has two double-reinforced units of Crypt Horrors. It is not a Hollowmourne list, so it trades Battleline Horrors and Run+Charge for Delusion: Feast Day which gives you the option to use Feeding Frenzy ability without CP being spent. It also gives you the option to pick CT and Artifacts freely because the FEC book is the last one to have subfaction -locked CT/artifact. Haunter Courtier as General makes the Horrors battleline instead. Overshadow can be hard GS to complete depending on the meta, so kudos for Shannon for being successful with it. Some summon choices (particularly Flayers) can help a bit to chase down teleporting battleline units.
That being said, this list foregoes screens apart from the 10 Crypt Ghouls and pretty much is designed to go all in and table your opponent early on. 9 Horrors are 36 wounds with 6+ ward, and if you don’t kill them in one turn, they can get mustered back, and make no mistake, 9 Horrors hit super hard, especially with Feeding Frenzy and Hoarfrost. They can also be quite fast even without Run&Charge, since on a casting roll of 10+ Deranged Transformation (easy enough with Primal Dice and Acolytes batallion) can be applied to 3 units, and can choose the same unit multiple times, giving a unit of 9 Horrors effectively 12″ extra movement! No wonder there are multiple sources of the spell in the army.
Horribly Resilient (Royal blood heals 3 wounds instead of D3) for ZD mount trait is an uncommon pick, but makes one think the GKoZD’s role is to give the re-roll wounds aura, Feeding Frenzy, Rend aura and to keep up with the Horrors, while staying alive as well as possible.

Units 6 x Aggradon Lancers (380)** – Reinforced x 1
Behemoths Krondspine Incarnate of Ghur (480)** – Allies
Danny Wadeson: Well, it’s a Seraphon list with the Spinedog. I wish it wasn’t, but this is the timeline we live in. Perhaps one day GW will relent, and admit that the boney nuisance was never really meant to be used outside of fluffy campaign play and we’ll all go back to being able to move our models around, but until then – let’s just ignore it and see what else Mr. Freed was rolling with.
It’s your standard Fangs core, minus Kroak (the Spinedog points gotta come from somewhere) – and, leaning into the theme of balancing star-power with some brute, physical force – he also brings a reinforced unit of Aggradons. Overall it’s quite an interesting idea, partly due to the fragility of pure-magic Starborne builds that rely on rapid summoning to control the board and put up screens. But the Spinedog shutting down falling back also combos with the Aggradon rage counter, meaning if the Spinedog can tag something, and the Aggradons charge it – and that enemy unit somehow survives, then the Aggradons Rage counter is guaranteed to tick up. Over a couple of rounds I can imagine that leaves the opponent rather a lot to be wary of while the Starborne shenanigans carry on in the background.
The list lost only to Khorne, which isn’t terribly surprising, and definitely proved it can deal with Gitz! Either way, congrats to Freed for a great result.
