Celefaze: This is one of the most unique Slaanesh lists I’ve ever seen reach a podium placing, and makes expert use of our debuff capabilities and the offensive jank hidden in oft-forgotten Invaders subfaction. The party starts with two units of symbaresh twinsouls that apply -1 to melee attack characteristics to units within 3″, and 2 keepers of secrets with living whips that can each bring that down by a further -1 to a unit within 6″. To make sure all those newly upgraded 2″ reach hordes are kept humble the list then turns it up to 11 with the Lash of Slaanesh spell, capable of applying an uncapped melee attacks penalty (to a minimum of 1) to an unlucky unit within 12″. As if that weren’t excessive enough, the lord of hubris can step in to ensure a unit can only attack him in combat with however many attacks they happen to have left at that point. Offensively this force is deceptively deadly too, with a possible 2 instances of the Hurler of Obscenities command trait (applying +1 to hit and -1 to save for an enemy unit in 6″) thanks to the Escalating Havoc heroic action, and a turn of army-wide +1 to melee attacks from the Icon of Infinite Excess. Bolstered by the Slaaneshi power-couple of Syll’Esske’s conditional +1 to hit and wound, this can make for a brutal offensive push at a key moment. Some additional utility is found in allies and endless spells, with the unmade pinning enemies in place and furies for scoring shenanigans, while the Dreadful Visage provides a rare, almost nostalgic source of strike-last. Juancho deserves praise for not only brewing this strange beast of a list, but piloting it to an undefeated 3rd place.

The list plays rather standard 2 Archreagents and a Gravewarden as the Abhorrants, but does have a nice pick of Varghulf Courtier as the general, with Cruel Taskmaster for maximum muster potential for the killiest Courtier hero. Hoarfrost is the single best spell for FEC due to problems being often lack of rend and hit debuffs. Deranged transformation is of course the best spell in the FEC lore.

Otherwise the list plays around 40 Ghouls and Chalice for tarpitting, 2 x 3 Crypt Horrors for battleline and 2 x 3 Morbhegs for battle tactics and great mobility. Two units of MSU Morbhegs seem to be pretty stable part of FEC lists atm.

Crypt Flayers ww 9″ get +1 damage to their shooting attacks if a Crypt Infernal kills a model with a shooting attack. With a unit of 6 that’s 24 4+/3(2)+ rend 2 dmg 2 shots , which can also give you a battle tactic. They also get damage 2 when they charge due to Hollowmourne trait. Crypt Flayers are often overlooked due to pure stats comparison to horrors, but they are a good flex pick that can carry characters and have really good threat range.

Hollowmourne lists love to fight, and frankly, they need to for NDP generation. This list gives up a bit of the raw power of Horrors for more finesse of Flayers/Morbhegs and tarpitting of the Ghouls.

Kieren Coates: Benoit Coming through with the big 5-0 with what almost feels like a classic skaven list from 12 months ago during the GV/GC meta

We love to see thanquol back on the table proving he doesn’t need a surfboard to show his strength, combined with double grey seers, warbringer and double priest it has access to 8 casts (with warlord for 2 spells chosen per wizard), giving access to great prayers and blizzard for some short range mortal punch.

One notable difference is the warbringer taking sheild of distraction, a rarely seen artfiact that forces the enemy to only allow 1 unit per turn to attack the warbringer in melle, allowing for suicide charges into multiple units without fear of return damage – Its an interesting choice as warpstone charm has been the go to choice for many warpstone fanatics, but Benoit has found path for the shield and has made it work

10 censors, 20 monks, hell pit, thanquol, warbringer, blizzards, great plagues – if you dont respect the output of this list expect to get tabled very quickly upon a misposition with a lethal combination of mortals and high volume physical damage.

Congratulations on the 5-0

Celefaze: The classics never die. They only fall short of the meta for a bit. With a few key differences, this is the type of list you saw quite a bit at the release of the current book. Featuring Pretenders with the Masque for turn one depravity, a healthy dose of blissbarbs for damage, blissbarb seekers for save debuffing, and slickblades for highly mobile depravity generation. At the helm is a Strength of Godhood contorted epitome general (with all the standard trimmings) for a beast of a lynchpin hero that can issue a ludicrous number of commands, debuff a major threat with the crown, and punch above its weight with multiple damage buffs. Where this list diverges deliciously is the addition of a special favorite of mine: Glutos Orscollion. A key ingredient for any ranged list that may find itself starved for depravity in the early game, Glutos shores up that early weakness by providing his own -1 to-hit aura that covers a respectably large area of the board. The big guy is also a solid melee threat and possibly the tankiest entry Slaanesh has access to.  A flavorful take on the original recipe for victory with this book.

Carl Stokes: Even as we head full throttle into the indexification of AoS with the new edition this summer, we can still take the time to appreciate some excellently piloted KO lists. This one is pretty spicy, with the symmetry I love to see. Headed up by Brokk himself, this list really revolves around the perfectly balanced (as all things should be) frigate duo, both of which contain 9 endrinriggers for maximal healing and a very prickly exterior, should someone charge into them (or be charged).

Otherwise, the character department is a familiar sight, with the lack of admiral offset by a Voidstone Navigator and Stormcaller dirigible endrinmaster to unlock battleline endrinriggers and provide even more healing/shooting. Taking the nullstone icon ensures yet another automatic battle tactic for the army that’s the best in the game at scoring them. This sort of redundancy is really the name of the game for this list.

The amount of shooting that can be brought to bear, even without an ironclad, is staggering, with a killbox of 12” around each of the frigates. The classic move of slamming 2 frigates into an enemy and unpacking 18 Endrinriggers and Brokk that always strike first with extra attacks from Brokk can come as a real surprise to opponents and shatter the backbone of any army in the game.

We’ve slowly seen a transition away from the frigate/ironclad combo and more of this frigate/frigate/brokk set-up that leverages the speed and explosive melee power of the army rather than the pure shooting and mobile castle playstyle. It’s phenomenal to see how the KO book remains competitive across multiple GHBs, and the creation of fun lists like this one is something that’s been a real hallmark of AoS 3.0.

The only true weakness this army has is against massive recursion and monster truck opponents that can reach out and swat boats while maintaining the board presence to outscore them on objectives. This is an inherent weakness of non-Gotrek KO lists that can be seen here in this list’s only loss to the new FEC. Sometimes, you just don’t always have great matchups, and at the end of the day, a strong third place finish from Down Under is nothing to sneeze at! Great work, James!

Walter Brock: This list is a Katakros Petrifex list with a few new choices for dealing with different situations.

Starting off we see the Normal Spellcasting Savant, Mortisan General + Immortis Guard Brick.  Aura of sterility helps protect the list from shooting.

The Soul Reaper is a cost-efficient choice to add a second wizard for the Acolytes Detachment.  This lets the list get out a key spell. Or bank primal dice to stop opponent spells.
Katakros acts as the main engine of the list.  Buffing everything to 11.

Deathriders are a standard unit for OBR lists.  Easy battle tactics and screen + durability.

two uncommon picks are the harvester and the 6 stalkers.

The Harvester provides the best points for damage value in the Ossiarch book.  When buffed by the Ossifector for rend and wound rolls.  Adding 5s to explode and Katakros’s Hit buff lets the harvester act as a missile threat to take out important targets that the rest of the list doesn’t want to deal with.

6 Stalkers biggest strengths are their speed and damage.  Able to outspeed many units on the field and cripple them before the opponent has a chance to hit the OBR list.  With Katakros and the Petrifex bonus, any counterattack will have a hard time putting damage through on this unit.

Yuri Vybornov: In my list, I tried to combine all the best options Idoneth have – excluding sharks, which became a popular trend since the last Battlescroll, but will soon disappear again. Also, shark spam, in my opinion, isn’t the most thrilling way to play Idoneth and has some obvious weaknesses. So I decided to try a list of combined arms – my favourite type of list. Important note – i had only a couple of games with this army in the third edition, so I had to think theoretically about building my roster.

Heroes of the idoneth provide major buffs to the already decent units, so I packed five of them – Lotann, Thrallmaster and Soulrender for buffing and reviving, Tidecaster solely to give me access to the second Ritual if need arises (spoiler: it didn’t. Though there are always chances to meet some shooting-heavy lists, such as Hedonites, Kharadron Overlords, and Cities. In such situations, a combination of rituals of Deep-sight and creeping mist could grant me some major advantages). Akhelian King was there to do what Akhelian King does best – slaying stuff. And oh boy, did he deliver some major pain.

I’ve chosen Nautilar solely to make the otherwise lacking Leviadon worth 400 points – I knew that it was a controversial choice for the Enclave, but this sweet rend -3 on damage 4 attacks was needed, in my opinion. I think it paid off, as in all 3 games, the turtle did some heavy-lifting as well.

I also had doubts about 2 units of 3 Ishlaen, though I intended to use them as ultimate objective-grabbers. They did their job very well due to their speed, some consistent damage output, and decent survivability. These guys ain’t no joke, and now I think I will be taking them as the core part of the list as they do their part really well. It’s very easy for them to take control of the objective from other skirmish units – such as skinks, Dawnriders, or even river-trolls they faced in the 1st round of the event.

In all cases, they killed their opponents without losing any models themselves, which is very important, as they were able to continue their play until the end of the battle. After securing the objective, they also had plenty of roles to fulfil – chase down the opponent’s beaten units, assassinate heroes, and even support the main line if need be.

Finally, Namarti are Namarti – reavers were manoeuvrable shooting-support, capable of inflicting some hurt to enemy armies and sometimes even killing charging foes in unleash hell due to their bonuses «to hit». Their colleagues, thralls, backed up by Thrallmaster, Leviadon, Lotann, and Soulrender, were capable of holding their ground pretty well in all three games and inflicting solid damage in return. To round it up, the lists turned out to be quite well-balanced – it has speed, some high rends, weight of dice attacks, decent distance threats, and some decent survivability. The only weaknesses it has are inherited – idoneth strive to deliver and survive mortal wounds and playing with magic in general, which almost proved to be fatal against Seraphon and Lumineth. But their strong sides can mitigate those to some extent for sure.

Milan Popovic: My list has a few important things that make it joker-like. I have Sevireth that is fast and good at distraction and in chasing small heroes down. Bladelords are a good punching unit as well as Light of Eltharion. Dawnriders were in all games used as an additional screen with one unit of wardeners, but their purpose was to chase small units and to give support to Sevireth. Spell diversity I got from the Magnificent of Command Entourage battalion. The list is like a castle moving until I slingshot a unit of bladelords fully buffed that picks up important units and destroys them. Wih Enlightener that can cast speed of hysh if and his Rune of Enthlai it is possible to launch Light of Eltharion as well. It’s a well-rounded list that only suffers from spreading too much. Some small tweaks to the list would make it even more deadly. Better first strike placement with wardens, and maybe trading dawnriders for sentinels could make good change. Also, Sudden Translocation from Ellania and Ellathor makes them unreliable enough.

Miljan Otovic: The idea behind this list is to play as much as possible to HoS’ main advantage, which is, in my opinion, speed.

So, all units are fast, and the main idea behind it is to concentrate heavily hitting units and take out as many of opponents’ damage dealers as possible – as fast as possible.

For screening and objective grabbing are used Seekers, while everything else is hitting and “pinning” the opponent in the opponent’s zone. Keeping his units and damaged dealers occupied, preferably for a few turns.

Keeper of Secrets and Sigvald are attacking characters (sometimes with Mask too) and destroying support ones on 1st turn if possible.

After that, there is trading between hitting elements of the army, but at that point, it goes in favour of the HoS.

One big drawback for this list is that it is “dice dependent”. Or more “average dependent”, any early skew in opponents’ favor makes victory near impossible. “

TOTAL POINTS: 1980/2000

Roland Rivera: At first look, this looks like your bog standard Empty Throne list – lots of Varanguard for hammering things off the table, an anvil of Knights up the middle to pin the opponent down and do some damage in the process, and Heroes to support those two units. However, this one has a very spicy curveball in that it’s not running any magic, which is a typical staple of Slaves to Darkness. Instead, this list is suiting up with a rarely-seen Hero Monster in a Chaos Lord on Manticore, which brings something most of these lists lack – a durable source of Roar.

Speaking of that Manticore Lord, the pilot made some choices inclined towards its staying power in combat by marking it Nurgle, choosing the Daemon Blade (for mortal wound output in melee) and Chaos Runeshield (for a 3+ save and a 5+ Ward v. mortal wounds), and giving it Death Dealer for a once-per-game boost in output. I personally question giving that to the Manticore Lord over the Karkadrak Lord (which is a naturally punchier unit, made even more so by being marked Khorne over Nurgle), but I’m sure there was a reason behind this decision.

All in all, this is an interesting twist on a classic Slaves to Darkness list. I’m not sure it’s a better approach that using magic to buff your units up, but it certainly stands out more on the tabletop.
