This is the top three AoS lists for Tetsworth’s War And Treachery  that took place in the UK on the 28th and 29th of October. It saw 20 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament.

Because the tournament has 20 or less players we won’t be commenting on the lists.

Roland Rivera: At first look, this looks like your bog standard Empty Throne list – lots of Varanguard for hammering things off the table, an anvil of Knights up the middle to pin the opponent down and do some damage in the process, and Heroes to support those two units. However, this one has a very spicy curveball in that it’s not running any magic, which is a typical staple of Slaves to Darkness. Instead, this list is suiting up with a rarely-seen Hero Monster in a Chaos Lord on Manticore, which brings something most of these lists lack – a durable source of Roar.

Speaking of that Manticore Lord, the pilot made some choices inclined towards its staying power in combat by marking it Nurgle, choosing the Daemon Blade (for mortal wound output in melee) and Chaos Runeshield (for a 3+ save and a 5+ Ward v. mortal wounds), and giving it Death Dealer for a once-per-game boost in output. I personally question giving that to the Manticore Lord over the Karkadrak Lord (which is a naturally punchier unit, made even more so by being marked Khorne over Nurgle), but I’m sure there was a reason behind this decision.

All in all, this is an interesting twist on a classic Slaves to Darkness list. I’m not sure it’s a better approach that using magic to buff your units up, but it certainly stands out more on the tabletop.
