Roland Rivera: A Mortal-heavy Reapers of Vengeance list is not exactly a common sight, but such is the power of its effect of providing bonus Blood Tithe for slain enemy Heroes that you can make it work. The Hero lineup features most of the big hits: a Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury with Firebrand as a powerhouse to build your center around, Skarbrand as a steady and mostly independent hammer, multiple Priests to leverage the excellent prayer scripture and invocations, and Skarr Bloodwrath as a reusable source of Blood Tithe.
The troops themselves feature a mix of native Khorne troops and Allies from Slaves to Darkness: the reinforced blob of Blood Warriors will take and hold the middle, whereas the Flesh Hounds and Bloodreavers serve as cheap screens that can generate Blood Tithe on death. The Furies can also serve that role, but provide additional mobility to help pressure faraway objectives.
Khorne continues to be in a strong position, and this list is a good example of why this is the case: the combination of durability, reliability, and mobility makes it a powerful army in the hands of a skilled player.

Models with 1 wounds can’t contest within 3″) – Brute Boss – Boss Choppa – Jagged Gore-hacka Orruk Brutes (140)** – Brute Boss – Boss Choppa – Jagged Gore-hacka Gutrippaz (150)*** (-1 to hit from non Hero, non monsters) – Gutrippa Banner Bearer – Gutrippa Hornblower – Gutrippa Boss – Wicked Stikka
OTHER Brute Ragerz (200)** (run and charge) – 6 x Mighty Gore-hacka
ENDLESS SPELLS & INVOCATIONS 1 x Suffocating Gravetide (30)
Roland Rivera: It’s not often that you see a Maw-krusha in Big Waaagh lists, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t potent. Its combination of speed and hitting power can be a daunting complement to the board presence and magical power typical of Big Waaagh armies.
Alongside the big guy is an interesting combination of Ironjawz threats – Brute Ragerz pack a lot of punch on the cheap, and Brutes bring both damage and the ability to bully smaller models off objectives. Alongside them is a unit of Gutrippaz that acts as a screen that can also take down weaker units, and a fairly typical Hero lineup of Gobsprakk, a Wurrgog Prophet, a Weirdnob Shaman with Da Great Big Green Hand of Gork, and a couple of Warchanters to lay down Violent Fury on the Ironjawz.
Because the Maw-krusha is not often seen in Big Waaagh, your opponents may not be prepared for it, and that kind of curveball can be a very useful tool.

OTHER 10 x Black Knights (130) – Hellknight – Standard Bearer 3 x Fell Bats (90) 3 x Vargheists (140)
CORE BATTALIONS: *Andtorian Acolytes
TOTAL POINTS: (1985/2000)
Roland Rivera: While this list is in Vyrkos, and has some of the Vyrkos mainstays in Zombies and Belladamma, it has a very interesting mix of units. Vyrkos is normally all about the Deadwalkers, but this list has a big blob of 30 Skeletons (!), as well as 10 Black Knights (!!) and some Vargheists (!!!). The surprises don’t end there, as even Ivya Volga makes an appearance.
The gameplan, however, is the same as it typically is for Vyrkos – drown your opponent in bodies, and pick them back up when they die. The Black Knights offer you a bit of a counterpunch angle with the mortal wounds on the charge, and the Vargheists can threaten backfields with their flight speed and deepstrike ability.
Overall, this is a bit of an unusual list, but unusual doesn’t always mean bad, as its results demonstrate.

UNITS 30 x Bloodletters (540)** – Gore Drenched Icon 20 x Bloodletters (360)** – Gore Drenched Icon 10 x Bloodreavers (80)** – Reaver Blades 10 x Bloodreavers (80)** – Reaver Blades
This is the perfect list for anyone who is interested in the more “smash and bash” idea of Khorne’s lore. 50 Bloodletters will have a scary amount of damage output, especially in Bloodlords where 1/3 of their swings end in mortal wounds, instead of 1/6, assuming they charged. Taking a double-reinforced block is also not something we see that often in Khorne lists, since the general flavor is to take a single reinforced unit of something (bloodletters, blood warriors, skullcrushers, or skullreapers, generally) and build around what supports that unit.
For support, Shaun has opted for a Blood throne, Bloodmaster, and Bloodsecrator. All three of these units will take the already impressive damage output of 30 bloodletters and turn them up to 11 by adding extra attacks, potentially boosting their wound rolls against an enemy unit, and keeping them alive to fight in the next round.
Shaun has also leaned in to Khorne’s anti-wizardry by bringing along 5 priests, all of which are sporting an extra prayer from the battalion, and across the five every prayer that Khorne has access to is present. This means that positioning that huge block of bloodletters is much easier through Bloodbind and Killer Instinct, boosting their damage output even further with Unholy Flames, and keeping them alive with Bronzed Flesh.
Overall this is an excellent display of how Khorne lists can be built by simply leaning into the things Khorne already want. Pray, spill blood, repeat. Congratulations to Shaun on first place!
List Name: Blades of khorne Allegiance: Khorne – Slaughterhost: The Bloodlords – Grand Strategy: Slaughter of Sorcery – Triumphs:

And here we have the list that Shaun drew against in the fourth round. You can look between the two and see a lot of similarities, with a couple of notable exceptions.
Scott choose to bring the damage combo of Skarbrand + Boomthirster at the cost of a couple priests and the seond reinforcement on one of the units of bloodletters. Skarbrand’s damage output is appreciable, but it’s taken at the cost of support units for the reinforced bloodletters.
Past those difference my comments stay roughly the same. There is a good reason that these two list found themselves in a draw. Congratulations, Scott, on your second place victory and your 4-1-0.

Noel Fundora: I do love me some Big Waaagh. The army excels at trading pieces efficiently while scoring proficiently. Making the Swampcalla your general will give you access to the two very easy Kruleboyz battle tactics in Sneak Up and Take Dat, Ya Suckers! Pair that with the very free Big Waaagh tactic of Wait for it Ladz and you’ve already scored 3/5 BTs, meaning you only have to manage 2 from the GHB, which is simple enough with this loadout.
The extra spell enhancement gives your handy wizards great flex picks, made even stronger by the ever important Acolytes Battalion. Gutrippaz will be the cheap battleline option that exists on objectives quite well with their -1 to be hit (against no heroes and monsters). The wall of lads stands in front of the wizards, casting a multitude of damage and debuff spells. Between the Kruleboyz lore, the GHB lore, and the Wurrgog Warscroll Lazer Eyes, this is an immense castle to approach. The piggies and ragerz can scream out from the backline at a moment’s notice to clean up whatever is left standing. The Maw-Grunta is a great inclusion for a cheap monster to trounce around with. With high movement, some run and charge, the Weirdnob teleport, and Mighty Destroyers, those units will get wherever you need them to go.
Big Waaagh is the toolbox of all toolboxes that will give ya what you need for any scenario.

Kevin Lathers: This an interesting list in that it makes use of a lot of different Fyreslayer units all together. Functionally it may perform similar to some Vostarg Vulkite-heavy lists but allows for a couple different board control strategies.
To that end, this list will be effecting heavy board control. Vulkites and Hearthguard Berserkers have a lot of wounds on them to burn through, and Shield Vulkites are 40 wounds under a 6+/5+ (with battlesmith) ward that can be rallied on a 4+ and feed the flamekeepers when they die. There’s just a lot of stuff for enemies to have to deal with this.
Furthering this board control is the ability for the Hearthguard Berserker group to split off with the Runefather — with possibly the Doomseeker and Flameseekers (for an extra hero and anti-monstrous actions) — to create one small castle while the Vulkites, Battlesmith, and Flamekeepers create another small castle. This list can split push if need be. That’s very dangerous because opponents can often break one castle, but two? That’s another thing entirely.
On top of this, dealing with these castles, and their high model count, not only causes other stuff to get stronger (via flamekeeper), but leaves opponents open to heavy mortal wound output from the infernoth, flamespitter, and the poleaxe berserkers. It’s notable that flameseekers benefit as well from flamekeepers as Vulkites do, as well.
As a treat, the Auric Hearthguard add a nice little bit of shooting as well as movement reduction on select units which is always good and can even be backbreaking occasionally. Dropping a units move by 2″ can sometimes be a difference maker in an opponent’s plans.
Functionally this list becomes a buzzsaw that can push onto objectives, be hard to remove, and punish opponents for even trying to do it.

Roland Rivera: Given that this tournament was held after the most recent Battlescroll and that it seems to have applied its rules (as evidenced by the points cost on the Claws of Karanak), I think it’s pretty surprising to The Coven of Thryx still being used in a Khorne list. It’s a pretty unpopular inclusion nowadays (since its spells can automatically fail on a 5+), but the endless spell popping up automatically at the start of the game and being replaced automatically when Horrors die near the Magister ameliorates that risk of failure a bit.
This list in particular was all-in on cheap fodder units to toss in front of the Coven’s endless spells to make Tzeentch Chaos Spawn – Karanak, Garrek’s Reavers, the Claws of Karanak, and the Bloodreavers all qualify for this purpose. Skarr Bloodwrath is also present in this list as a cheap, reusable source of Blood Tithe. Beyond that, we have Skarbrand as a one-man band, the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage as a big lotto ticket that can turn off Wards, a couple of Priests to access the excellent prayer scripture, and a somewhat uncommon Command Trait in Favoured of Khorne (which gives you 1 Blood Tithe point to start the game).
While we likely won’t see many Khorne lists built with the Coven going forward, the rest of the pieces are synergistic and powerful enough that Khorne should remain a contender going forward.

Roland Rivera: I love me a good brawler list, and boy can this list brawl. Each and every one of its troops is a threat, especially when they are the recipients of the Violent Fury buff from one of the Warchanters. The decision to make Gobsprakk the General might seem like a curious one, since it means the list misses out on a command trait, but it does so to gain access to an easy Battle Tactic in Take Dat, Ya Suckers!
The troop lineup is a murderer’s row, each with its own unique advantages. Ardboyz have the strongest armor and are fresh off a points cut, Brutes are strong tech against blobs of low-Wound models, Gore-Gruntas have the best move speed, and Brute Ragerz do the most damage point-for-point while offering a bit of extra speed with their ability to run & charge. The combination of these attributes with the Weirdnob’s Great Green Hand of Gork will let you pick your fights in ways that you’re favored to win.
The lineup is rounded out by Big Waaagh! mainstays in the Wurrgog Prophet and the aforementioned Gobsprakk and Warchanters. I’m somewhat iffy on the choice of extra enhancement Gary took for his Warlord Battalion (is an extra spell on 2 casters really the best of what’s available?), but everything else is a masterful exercise in listbuilding, even if the record itself is a bit weaker than what we typically see out of a podium list.

OTHER 20 x Grave Guard (320)** – Seneschal – 2 x Standard Bearer – 2 x Hornblower – Great Wight Blade
Roland Rivera: Seeing Legion of Night featured in a list article is no surprise; it’s been by far the most consistently performing Soulblight subfaction (though the record on this particular list is a bit lower than we typically see for a list with this high a placement). The mobility tricks afforded by Mannfred & Co. allow skilled pilots to create advantageous positions with ease.
The lineup here is pretty standard fare: blobs of Summonable troops to take punches and leverage the Unbending Will command trait, Grave Guard to counterpunch, Mannfred and a Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon to act as big, mobile threats, and a foot Vampire Lord to carry the command trait and artefact while juicing up the Grave Guard. Some lists go for more of a mix in the Summonable department, but David doubled up on the 2 mainstays in Fell Bats and Zombies, and put in a bit of interesting tech in the form of the Aethervoid Pendulum.
While the formula for Legion of Night is well established at this point, knowing what it does is only half the battle. Outmaneuvering a list capable of so many different movement tricks is easier said than done.

Chai’s list deviates from the standard Khorne 5-0 list, but he proved that to be very effective. He still maintains some of the standard units, such as the Unfettered Fury, double priests, and Skarbrand. Meanwhile he decided to go with Skullfiend Tribe and leaning heavily into Skullreapers.
Skullfiend Tribe allows units that charge to have fights first if the charge roll was 8+. Coupled with the massive number of attacks from the Skullreapers (boosted by the bloodsecrator) this could prove crippling to an opponent. Two ten-man block supported by a bloodsecrator are going to have a combine 104 attacks, likely hitting on 2s, either from all out attack or their warscroll ability, and having the option of a 4+ rally when they inevitably start to get whittled down.
The only other odd inclusion in this list is the furies. They’re 12″ move and ability to retreat in the fight phase makes them excellent at scoring some battle tactics.
Overall an excellent show of Khorne’s ability to work within the tome’s internal balance and still succeed. Congratulations on the win, Chai!

Ramon Silva: It’s really fun looking at the leanness of a list this late into the season and understand the Fate of the game roles more solely on The decisions of the general, than it does with pay to win or spam.
This impressive 5-1 run by Mike has a list that seems like a jack-o-lantern of all trades; It’s Scarlet doom but only 40 blades, which when this book first dropped we could easily have seen double that- there’s six heroes so it’s definitely got a hero hammer aspect to it, but only one block of spirit hosts (The OG bodyguard/ damage YEEters) So the hosts positioning has to be tight against shooting because although the heroes are ethereal, they are a rather low wound count.
The list finishes out with tech; a 4 pack of banshee’s, an awesome anti-magic unit and the midnight Tome AutoCasting the purple sun. Which is amazing for ghosts because it just gives the enemy negative one to their save. But it also every once in a while sucks something up into the void, which is one of those few times, It’s fun to roll a one.

CORE BATTALIONS *Regiment of Renown **Battle Regiment
TOTAL POINTS: 1990/2000
This list has some old Faithful’s and some new toys that have recently been added to the OBR lineup. We will go over the OBR bit first and then go over the Mannfred Regiment last.
For the sub faction, we have Mortis Praetorians. Providing a control tool that, when timed right, can stop battle tactics or go on the offensive during the opponents turn. The Grand Strat is a common one we see in spell casting savant because of Immortis guard being used to protect it. Starting off, we have the Bone Shaper with Artisans key, Sterility, and Blizzard.
Blizzard has a bit of dyssynergy with Savant. The general might end up blowing itself up on a blizzard cast, but it’s a nice keep away stick and source of damage if you need it to get you out of a bind or push an advantage further.
Arkhan, as we know, is one of the best casters in the game. Able to support the army through heals and spells. Able to stop powerful enemy casters with his +2 to cast and unbind. His speed and durability allow Arkhan to go places to go places, and other units would never want to go. Everything he does complements OBR incredibly well and helps the list do its job. Two units of Deathriders add a reliable battle tactic, speed, and screens. They add a lot of consistency to the list and can keep up with the rest of the speed in the list. 6 Immortis guards protect the Important hero’s, function as a solid hammer/Anvil, and open a battle tactic in Sculptors Encourage.
The new edition is the Mannfred RoR. Which comes with Manny, two units of 3 bats and a unit of 10 Graveguard. Firstly, at the start of your hero phase, you can pick a unit in the regiment outside of “3” of enemy units and teleport it outside of “6” of enemy units. Then, the unit that teleports gets an extra attack for the rest of the turn. This adds a lot of flexibility and mobility to the slower and more expensive OBR units. Mannfred’s Regiment will be wanting to do secondaries early and teleporting Graveguard to take out important pieces the rest of the list otherwise wouldn’t be able to. Then Mannfred will also be in the fight, adding another layer of control with his own counter charge. It’s important to note that every unit in the regiment has to deploy within “6” of Mannfred.
The list is a lot of fun and has a lot of tools at its disposal.

I’m happy to say we’ve been joined by another writer this month. Tom Skelton is both well liked and well known in the Scottish tournament circuit. He has the skills to boot! He’s currently sitting 3rd in the Scottish player rankings.
Tom Skelton: For this list, I got the opinion of Ross Sherrie, chief Teclis abuser on the Scottish world team, and he believes what Jon has here is a melee castle that can stack multiple minuses to be hit. A block of 20 wardens counting as two models each on objectives, with effectively a -2 to be hit, potentially a +3 to save and a five up ward on top, really isn’t going anywhere fast. So at least some of the primary is in the bag, then with the multiple Endless Spells and three battle tactics based on easy spell casting, the secondary points are also there for the taking. The Dawnriders are fast enough for making other passive BTs like Surround and Destroy or Intimidate the Invaders pretty easy to achieve, so overall it doesn’t really need to engage to score points, which is always a win. Not that it can’t dish out the hurt when needed, with the battle cattle, Bladelords and Eltharion each offering up a hefty punch. The Sanctum of Amyntok, though not often seen, is a mere 20 points and, if used in the right spot, would allow Lyrior to be in a garrison effectively, with a massive ward bubble for the army. So, sending out spells and units for secondary points, the castle sets up and camps out for the primary, with the tools for a lot of what comes its way and a decent enough amount of ranged damage from the cow, Eltharion and Jaws to wear down threats as they approach. It seems that with a bit of patience and using the right units at the right time, this list has answers for a lot of what’s out there, which is why I think it’s telling that it only lost to Khorne and OBR, two of the most oppressive armies going. Well played, Jon.
