Luis Mendoza: Congrats to Krzysztof! In times when the Baleful Lords list seems to be the most viable option—or sometimes the only one—for facing a GT with the worshippers of Khorne, lists like this appear, giving us a glimmer of hope in building an infantry-based list. This roster, with 4 drops, is designed for high mobility and damage.

In the heroic section, the Bloodthirster Wrath of Khorne supports movement and the ability to increase damage through its Commander of Tyrants ability and the Frenzied Taskmaster Heroic Trait. Skulltaker is the surgical weapon that helps eliminate support heroes, and the Deathbringer helps hinder the opponent’s use of commands and manifestations.

As for non-heroic units, we have 3 reinforced Bloodletters, one of them with an additional D6″ due to Frenzied Taskmaster plus 6″ in the combat phase, and if that weren’t enough, an extra D6″ at the end of your turn—that’s right, statistically 12″. In terms of damage, WoK gives them +1 to their attack stat, allowing them to unleash 61 critical hits (Mortal Wounds) – not bad at all. Two Bloodreavers as a screen and to collect BTPs.

Finally, the Regiment of Renown provides some versatility against heroes and helps absorb shots, especially in Covering Fire.

Congratulations again on this 5-0.

Eduardo Rodríguez: This LRL list leaves tries to get as much damage as possible, as all the units are there to give a very big hit to the opponent in one turn, the dawnriders on the charge can deal very accurate damage with the combination of crit mortals and extra rend on the charge, while the sentinels support the list from afar with a lot of volume shooting.

The dawnriders synergise greatly with Lyrior as he can get a spell for strike first which, in combination with warhost of duality battle formation, can pull another unit in combat, and then you can activate another two units one after the other if it is your turn. This gets even more powerful considering that you can bring Elltharion into any combat that you want, so this way on the LRL turn you can hit with 20 danwnriders, Lyrior and Eltharion before the opponent has the chance to respond (considering there are no other strike first units on the board). This can also be used defensively in the opponent’s turn as you can easily countercast Lyrior’s strike first spell which will let you get to hit with him and another unit before the opponent has the chance to activate.

The threat range of the list is very large, as the sentinels have a range of 18¨ that can be extended to 24¨ with a -1 to hit. Also, there are ways to increase the movement characteristic of the army, there’s a spell to move 5¨ and some of the runes can give you extra 4¨ move.

The new LRL battle traits allow also to become defensive when needed and Lyrior is great for this role, as you can select the extra effect of the strength rune for the units wholly within 12¨ of him. Usually, you would select the river rune in turn 1 to reduce charge rolls of the enemies by 2, and then in round 2 you can select mountain for a defensive style giving the units 5+ ward save, -1 to wound in combat and anti charge +1 rend. On the other hand, if you want to play offensive, you can select either the strength or wind runes, which can give you +1 to wound rolls, and bonuses to run and charge, or +4¨ to their move characteristic and -1 to hit, respectively.

Overal, I think that this is a very interesting list that allows the user to adapt to the current situation that they are facing and, I believe that only a very good player would be able to pilot it with the required mastery to get this result at a GT.

Luis Mendoza: Sylvaneth is an army living a good moment.
The list is offering a good board presence and forcing mistakes in the opponent and eventually scoring tactics.

My roster is using the Sylvaneth core, Wargrove of Burgeoning and 5 regiments, 4 Monster-Heroes, all of them with a synchronized role in the field.

The small change in this list in comparison with the standard list is seeing Lady of Vines instead of Warsong Revenant. The reason is the spell to bring a 5+ ward, even if the chances are much lower. However, considering all the ward-disabling mechanics that currently exist in the game, it was well worth trying, in addition to its ability to support the defensive or offensive game as needed if it enters combat.

The last change is Radiant Spirit in Dhurtu. Bringing additional protection vs magic, something that gives a bit more of autonomy in special moments during the game – not used so frequent in game as Spellsinger in any Non-unique wizard but highly efficient when Durthu’s in action against Heavy-weight Magic armies like Nurgle, Tzeentch or Seraphon – increasing the chance to deny magic effects.

Thanks to our friends in Monterrey for this experience and to Miguel from WRGMTY for hosting this event.

Carson Whitlock: Hey, I know that guy! After a brief foray into low win rates and playing other armies, the meat lads are back. This list features a variety of tools largely made available through the Scourge of Ghyran rules updates this past summer. The name of the game here is counterpunch, with pressure tools like the Ironblaster’s shooting and the Gorger Mawpack’s deep strike to entice an opponent to commit forward in order to stop being harrassed. Both the Ironguts and Gluttons function as potentially game-ending hammers in response to an opponent’s go turn, and the gnoblars serve their purpose as good little speed bumps that occasionally moonlight as an emergency snack. Mawpath Menaces, or Burgerlust as I like to call it, adds an incredible out-of-phase movement option that can potentially flip a game completely on its head. On the surface, it seems simple. But don’t be fooled! Well done, me.

Carson Whitlock: Matthias’ Slaanesh list forms a fantastic anti-melee army that can grind out hammers with ease. The core of the list is centered around 20 Twinsouls, which will all be hardened with a 5+ ward. Applying this on top of a juicy -1 attacks in combat makes them surprisingly tough to swallow for even the biggest of hammers. 20 Blissbarb Archers are also featured, allowing the list to engage in foreplay from afar, enticing most to come closer and deal with the Twinsouls. A reinforced unit of Hellstriders acts as a great torpedo to send into your opponent without fear of losing much, as you can bring back 5 with the Celebrity Warlord enhancement on the Bladebringer Chariot. Lastly, we can’t forget the Scourge of Ghyran Slaangors which can drop down in your opponent’s turn, making the game far more cagey until they’ve been revealed. Nicely done, Matthias!

Stormreach Portal (20)

Eduardo Rodríguez: The list combines the melee damage and durability from the Questor Soulsworn with the range threat from the raptors and the Vanguard Palladors with javelins that can shoot, charge and then shoot again.

The list tries to be a super mobile list always threatening the opponent back line, objectives, and key pieces. The Beacon of Azyr allows this list to use the concept of recycling, depending on the circumstance of each game this could be applied to either the Palladors or the raptors, going all in with them to deal a lot of damage, and then automatically translocating one of the units back to safety. It also has many scout units that can teleport to help with the battle tactic game.

The list struggles with obscuring, as the main damage output comes from shooting, this is even more noticeable with all melee/cavalry armies and certain battle plans. And is also a list that has troubles with high armor saves, as it will only depend on the rend 2 of the raptors, and the rend 1 of the other units. It is an amazing list against big monsters and against armies that cannot split their forces around to gain board control. The Knight Relictor ability to reduce the ward save of a unit within 12” posts a big threat to any unit that depends on it, while the questor units can be tanky if they reach their questmarked objective. Selecting the questmarked objective after deploying can also be strategically used to force wrong decisions on the opponent. Overall, the great mobility helps score and do tactics and it can be very threatening against flying armies and big monsters.

Daniel Islas: More, More Mutation = More, More Fun!

The idea for the list was born the way the best Skaven craziness is born between smoke, dice, and betraying my own convictions. I’d been playing Magmadroths in earlier tournaments, but deep down I knew my heart – and my treachery – belonged to the rats. One day, reading comments, I saw someone mention that Thanquol’s army of renown was super fun and that… you could give ward to Stormfiends! In that moment I only thought: “say no more.” The decision was made.

The rules that made me say “this might actually work” were basically two pillars:

1. More, More Mutation, the subfaction rule that lets you mutate one unit in each of your hero phases:

    * +2″ to movement

    * +2 to the Wounds characteristic

    * And most importantly, a 5+ ward

This rule turns a normal unit into a little lump of meat, bone, and bad intentions.

2. The two Monstrous Rampages that let you gain strike-first with a monster… but at the end of the turn, it dies. These are designed 100% for the Hellpit Abominations: combined with their Too Horrible to Die rule, they might not actually die… or they might explode dealing 2D3 mortals to each unit in combat range. A proper Skaven tactical suicide.

The limited units and mobility in this list mean your decisions heavily shape the game.  Each Hellpit is an incredibly valuable resource:

* Not all of them will get the mutation, so, some will be much more fragile than others.

* You can’t get emotionally attached: they’re going to die. The real question is how, and in exchange for what.

You need to learn to manage them:

* Accept that a Hellpit dies if it means taking out a key enemy piece or tying up a very strong unit for an extra turn.

* Know when to mutate which unit:

    * Sometimes you’ll need to tank a brutal charge.

    * Other times you’ll need to turn a Hellpit into a living missile.

And this is where Skaven math gets delicious: with a 5+ ward, 16 wounds, and healing D6 wounds at the end of each turn, a mutated Hellpit is surprisingly tanky. If the dice cooperates, it feels immortal. On top of that, it hits pretty hard, especially into infantry, with that -3 rend that makes almost any armor sweat.

And then there are them… the true warp-favored cousins: the Stormfiends.

When you mutate them, they become a force of nature:

* Relatively fast.

* Extremely hard to kill, especially if you’ve got one or two Master Moulders nearby, pushing them and shouting “motivational” (probably threatening) lines.

In my experience with these games, mutation wasn’t always required, as they often fulfilled their purpose simply by being present.

* They work perfectly as attention magnets: if your opponent focuses on them, they’re basically punching a living wall.

* If they ignore them… poor them: Stormfiends do not forgive.

But when I was facing very fast armies with a brutal alpha strike – like Idoneth – I didn’t hesitate early mutation on the Stormfiends. That gives them the extra speed and resilience they need to take that initial punch and still remain a real threat on the table.

And lastly, let’s not forget about Thanquol and the Brood Terror of Ghyran – the sinister “support package” that holds the whole nightmare together.

Thanquol brings pure control to the table. His spell that denies the use of commands can completely shut down an opponent’s plan at the worst possible moment for them: no All-out Defense, no Inspiring Presence, no cheeky redeploys – just raw panic. On top of that, being able to pass wounds off to the monsters on a 4+, and then watching those monsters casually heal D6 wounds, feels absolutely criminal. Your opponent thinks they’re finally grinding something down… and then the green tide of Ghyran energy just knits it all back together. Pretty sweet.

And then there’s the Brood Terror, lurking behind the lines like a living artillery platform. Its shooting profile is downright scary – swingy and random, sure, but that’s the Skaven way, and we take what we can get! The real gem is its +1 to Hit aura for the Hellcats, which is insanely valuable. It turns them from “dangerous” into “this needs to die now” in your opponent’s eyes. But that buff only matters if you position him smartly: close enough to juice your key threats, safe enough not to get snipped off the board. Play him well, and the Brood Terror isn’t just another monster – it’s the dark heart of your battle line, quietly making everything around it so much deadlier.

In the end, playing this list is a constant dance between risk and reward, between sacrificing just enough and mutating at the perfect moment. Every Hellpit launched to its doom, every Stormfiend juiced to the max, every decision of “this unit lives, this unit explodes” … it all adds up to the experience.

Because that’s the heart of this army of renown:

More mutation, more chaos, more rats on the edge of self-destruction… and of course:

More More Mutation = More More Fun!

Luis Mendoza: Great job, Jack! A perfect 5 – 0 using Bastian and Grandhammers – something that every single SCE player that owns these badass models is willing to do -.

The list is built using Thunderhead Host to benefit Warrior chambers with +1 hit if they are wholly within 12″ of a non-hero or Beast unit with a different Chamber keyword. The roster contains 2-drops, this could allow you to have the chance to decide priority in the most part of the time. The list is not including priest, something interesting, and only including a wizard unit. Let’s take a look in detail.

Bastian is the General, with the well-known abilities to move 3 units during the deployment phase and use Area of Attack on any unit completely within 12″, even without any Command Points. Gardus Steel Soul is another favorite model of the faction, both for its lore and its usefulness in 3rd Edition. Now, he has a 12″ aura to share a ward with a 5+ save during the combat phase, provided if he’s charged. He also grants a +1 to charge and +1 melee attacks once per battle to up to 3 units completely within 6″. Rounding out the hero section is Lord Imperatant, with two upgrades: Beacon of Azyr, which allows him to automatically cast a spell or prayer in an unmodified 7 value, and Shock and Awe, which grants him and any unit under the Battle Trait Scions of the Storm a -1 hit on any attack during that same round; besides Imperatant allows you to pick up to 3 units wholly whitin combat range during movement phase and move upto D3″ what increases the chances to get a charge. So, the synergy in the support heros is to reduce the possibility failing a charge.

In the Non-heroic block, 2x units of reinforced Grandhammers, these guys have an ability to create a D3 Mortal Wounds when they are fielded using the battle trait Scions of the Storm, besides to assign strike last to an enemy when the charge is 8+; statistically 13 succesful wounds per attack with Rend 2 and Damage 3 is the output – this could means 12 damage points in a unit with 2+ safe and 5+ ward -; then we have the shooting hammer, a reinforced unit of Longstrikes, the elite shooting unit vs enemy heroes improving +1 Rend, in a 24″-30″ theatening range. Then a Vigilor unit, the supporting shooting to contribute with a +1 to hit to any kind of attack if they get damage to an enemy unit, and last infantry unit is the Stormcoven a wizard unit level 1, here the reason of Beacon trying to trigger the Strike Last / Strike First according the situation, and also increasing the opportunity of a sucessful charge with your hammers using the Aethervoid Pendulum. Also they offer a decent shooting attack.

So this list works in a synergic task to increase your opportunity of a good ending charge, with the chance to take strike first and strike last mechanics, so valuable for the type of units and taking +1 to hit so often to avoid efficiency reduction in youroverall output. Master the Paths and Resteless Energy tactic cards are the best fit in an elite army considering the profile and skills under this list.

Congrats again to Jack!

Luis Mendoza: Nice SCE weekend here! Congrats Adam for this 4 -1. This 2-drops list is working under Lightning Echelon, this trying to use a strike first on a unit of Extremis Chamber that successful charged in a roll of 3+.

The list starts with the SoG Iridan, priest level 1 and move 12″, with her own prayer that can improve in +1 Rend in 1 or 2 Ruination Chamber units, also supporting the defensive game re-rolling the resistance ability to deny non core ability effects on same type units. Lord Terminos is the next supporting hero, holding 2 enhancements, QSD to get Strike First and Legendary Tenacity to stay in the game in a 3+ even when an attack has taking down him and not counting as slain, both enhacements once per battle; in case of Quicksilver Draught, is usable chaining the attacks with the Reclusians, fighting immediatly after Terminos. Then Knight Arcanum, a wizard level 1, with the +1 in rolls summoning Endless Spells, this absolutely necessary using the Everblaze Comet, not easily seen nowadays.
Then are the 2x Stormdrake Guard units, 18 health points, moving 12″ and shooting in 10″ and 2 profiles in melee, this unit can create a decent damage, specially charging against Infantry units, with Finest Hour they are a nightmare for the opponents. Since the SdG belongs to Extremis Chamber they can trigger the 3+ roll to get Strike First. Also the reinforced unit of Reclusians, same Health Point in total, one of the few SCE units creating Mortal Wounds on 6s, 19 attacks with the chance to create statistically 27 successful wounds per attack if they are totally buffed – 11 damage points in average on units with 2+ safe and 5+ ward -, nothing despicable at all for 280 points. Stormcoven as supporting infantry unit, that could add the Strike First or Strike Last and the Vigilors with the +1 to hit on all the subsequent attacks on a damaged unit by their shooting.

The Tactic Cards are Master the Paths and Restless Energy, the best synergy with the type of roster since are working in parallel according the match is progressing.

Cheers for the good results!

Stefano: First of all, thank you for the opportunity to speak on this platform. I’m truly happy and honored!

I knew this tournament would feature some of the best Italian players, with a metagame tending toward “monstrous,” and what better counterplay than an elvish -1 hit? Haha, jokes aside, I chose to bring this list for its incredible versatility. It’s a very solid Herohammer based on a castle build that’s extremely difficult to remove, solid melee damage, and DMG chips in the heroic and shooting phases.

While Eltharion played the dirty trick of disrupting enemy lines or threatening counter charges when I chose to keep him defensive, Sevireth was the army’s Swiss Army Knife: 18″ movement, the chance to spike shooting damage, his fantastic rampage, and tactical power throughs to steal objectives or retreat behind defensive lines to threaten cover fire again in the enemy’s phase—definitely my MVP for the tournament.

Honorable mention for the Ydrilans: after the points nerf in the last battlescroll, I started using them in place of the regiment of renown Callis & Toll, and I have to say they were a truly excellent replacement! They’re certainly less durable, but their constant teleport and the ability to perform a 2D6 movement in combat were definitely mind-blowing!

Ambrogio: Classic Magmadroth-based list. 1 runefather to boost 3 Ghyran sons. I preferred to take “Fiercely Competitive” instead of “Ash-Beard” to counter Durthu, Belakor rampage and Vhordrai’s Spell, all common monsters in italian meta. Incandescent Blaze is perfect to sniper heroes when they get close to boost enemy units. 3 Flamekeeper units are also good thanks to their 3+ to hit and 3 atk each, when they atk in combo with Runefather each unit can do 37 atk with up to rend 4 against monsters! lovely.

Enrico: The list was designed to address as many situations as possible. It ensures a strong presence on objectives thanks to the use of five Pyregheist units, but at the same time manages to find sources of damage in the three reinforced Banshee units and the Ghyran Kurdoss.

Scouting Force and Attuned to Ghyran are two tactics cards that work very well with the chosen subfaction and army. The frequently used “Master the Paths” and “Intercept and Recover” tactic combo is easily circumvented by hiding the heroes behind the mass of Ghosts.

Luis Mendoza: Congrats to David! This 4 – 1 starts showing hope in the BoK options in the META gaming. This roster is based on AoR The Baleful Lords, including in the list Monster Hero Daemons only, 5 in fact since the last Battlescroll update. The AoR synergy between Baleful Lords and all the traits included are so juicy, offering you 2 additional Rampage abilities besides to the chance getting a replacement of a Baleful Lord that was destroyed and some other sniky skills.

The general is Wrath of Khorne, our flaming Bloodthirster is the central piece, the quarterback of this team, he’s specialized to fight vs heroes, his Rampage ability and a melee profile were created to add a good amount of damage on annoying heroes; adding +1 attack characteristic in melee weapons of one visible Bloodthirsteris always pretty welcome that can combine perfectly with Unrivalled Batlelust to add also +1 attack characteristic in combat phase once per battle; and owning of Crown of the Slaughterborn, to avoid any unit within 12″ of him can’t be healed and returning models to them. As any good balanced footbal team, needs good line-breakers elements, 2 Insensate Rage BT, one of those charging with the 2 best dice of a 3D6 because Beckon the hunt from one of the UFBT, breaking the front lines specially if they are infantry. Creating a D3 Mortal Damage to any enemy unit for each roll showing crits. Then, 2 units of Unfettered Fury supporting the threatening range in charges, besides counting with a great profile fighting Monsters, supporting the defensive game reducing the damage in a selected enemy Monster’s melee profile with a -1 to hit, -1 to wound. The list is fast and hitting hard and focusing power can deal damage in the correct units in the proper moments.

And about Tactic cards, those are Master the Paths and Restless Energy, maybe the most reliable combination when your roster is so elite, allowing you to get scoring in a progressive way in parallel to the advance of your units along the game.

Once again, congrats to David!

Luis Mendoza: Congrats to Eduart! A new 5 – 0 for the Daughters, this time under Slaughter Troupe, the Battle Formation ability to exchange a dice in a charge roll in any charge phase. The list takes 2 drops, with an overall profile highly offensive, counting with Morathi as main character to base the attack strategy and also supporting with 2 reinforced units of Sciansá.

The Heroic block starts with Morathi-Khaine, the wizard level 3 with a +1 buff to castings, something absolutely needed to take the best from the Lore of Shadows, talking with more emphasis on the combo Mindrazor + Steed of Shadows; the Shadow Queen is the main target for this combo during early stages in the game, being able to hold at least during 2 battlerounds, but creating huge amount of damage in the opponent army. Also, Morathi-Khaine is in charge of the Endless Spells – other than Hearth of Fury -, to add a couple of options on the attack tactic. Then, SoG Kretusha appears as the second keystone of this army, one of the best priest on game, being level 2 and a machine collecting a D3 of RPs in opponent’s hero phase, in addition to possessing one of the most envoyable prayers in the game, something serious to consider at defense and offensive tactic; and also can return the half of an aelf unit, once per game using 1 CP. The prayer lore is the Kahinite Cult, to add value in the output damage and objectove control. And the last hero unit, is High Gladiatrix, the supporting hero that takes the most popular enhacements, Khainite Pendant to get a free D6 RPs on Kretusha, and also Zealous Orator to help with 3 extra dice in Rally command.

Following with the non heroic units, 2 units of the hammer on this roster, the Witch Aelves with Paired Sciansá, able to create up to 81 attacks, with Rend 2 and damage 2 if Mindrazor and Sacrament of Blood – totally buffed -; this hammer can erase anything on the game definetely. 2 Shadowstalkers to teleport in your movement phase, stealing strategic objectives and completing with a unit of Warlocks, to increase the mobility and board presence.

The tactic cards are Restless Energy and Intercept and Recover; both cards match perfectly good with an alpha strike army like this, killing specific units and taking the control in the table in parallel.

Cheers!
