Luis Mendoza (Warhammex): At first glance, this list stands out by fielding four Monster Heroes, something we haven’t seen very often since the release of the Sylvaneth Battletome. It concentrates durability, magical support and combat power into its heroes, making Lords of the Clan the natural Battle Formation to maximize their resilience. More importantly, these heroes are not merely support pieces—they are genuine offensive threats.

The magical core revolves around The Lady of Vines and the Treelord Ancient (Scourge of Aqshy). Together they project spells through the Overgrown network while enhancing the army’s durability. The Lady of Vines provides her invaluable 5+ ward spell, while the Aqshy Treelord Ancient adds further magical resilience through his unique spell. As Level 2 Wizards with positive casting modifiers, both also contribute meaningful ranged pressure.

The Warsong Revenant complements this package by unlocking the Lore of Prayers, adding both offensive and defensive utility. His prayers improve friendly durability, reduce enemy ward saves, and Song of the Dread punishes enemy movement, creating constant positional pressure.

In combat, Spirit of Durthu anchors the frontline with Glamourweave improving the consistency of his attacks. Belthanos enhances the army’s board projection through his slingshot ability while granting nearby Kurnothi infantry an extra 2″ of movement. The reinforced Kurnoth Hunters with Greatswords serve as the primary hammer, while the Scythes provide a durable anvil. The Greatswords also benefit from the Aspect of Heartwood update, with Endless Growth healing 6 wounds once per battle instead of D3, often enough to return a fallen Greatsword model to the unit.

The chosen Battle Tactics fit the army naturally. Blazing Onslaught rewards its ability to apply pressure across multiple phases while maintaining board control, whereas Legend of the Parch capitalizes on the mobility and offensive power of its Monster Heroes to combine territorial pressure with reliable damage.

Overall, this is a cohesive and well-balanced list that combines resilient heroes, layered magical support and powerful melee threats into a clear, effective game plan. Congratulations to Jessy on an excellent build.

Fittsy: We’re seeing some new riffs on KO list archetypes and I’m really liking this one. 2nd place is also a really great result with KO as an army which can be tough to pilot but rewards a shrewd opportunist.

A few points drops and increased effectiveness from shooting is seeing the ironclad hit the tables more often again. It’s commonly paired with 20 arks for a really prickly anti charge mobile shooting blob. That Endrinmaster is still key to keep the Ironclad firing turn after turn and is a good spot to have the artefact and trait if you’re trying to stick to 2 drops.

Burst grenade is still great for stripping a ward and dropping a big target and shrewd opportunist looks really good to get units onto objectives or even a hero to a PoP early game with the deployment phase move.

The other half is Brokk and the Wardens combo with a Frigate and Drekki for some melee punch. Brokk’s OPB run and shoot/charge for both big boats is great for applying pressure. I haven’t been looking at Drekki myself in a while… But he’s a fan favourite and packs a little extra punch into a monster meta.

But wait there’s more… Well, 5 harpooners are just a good value high speed unit but 5 Thunderers for a second ward strip or to drop control score and bully the opponent off objectives is an interesting piece in this list with the Frigate able to bring them up and into place before charging in.

The long range shooting from the two big boats let’s the KO player put a bit of pressure on the opponent and they can make it tougher on the opponent to get those battle tictacs if you’re blasting their chaff units off the field. On the other hand, Blazing and Siege in this list make sense with good ways to tick off the first tactics and the movement to enable scoring Blazing or force the opponent to block it.

The Frigate is great for working around the constraints on Siege’s Strike too. All that said… These lists take a lot of brain work to play and taking 2nd at an event this early is no mean feat!

Luis Mendoza (Warhammex): Congratulations to Anthony on an impressive 4–1 finish! This list revolves around a simple but effective concept: an elite Kurnothi core supported by one of the strongest magical packages available to Sylvaneth. Followers of Kurnoth naturally complements this strategy by increasing the offensive potential of the army’s elite infantry while maintaining excellent board presence.

The magical core is led by Alarielle the Everqueen, whose flexibility, spellcasting and battlefield presence make her the centerpiece of the army throughout the game. Supporting her is a Branchwych equipped with Spellsinger and Dancing Mistflies, extending the army’s spell projection while improving casting reliability. Completing the package is the Warsong Revenant, whose access to the Lore of Prayers provides both offensive and defensive utility through improved friendly ward saves, reduced enemy wards and the constant positional threat created by Song of the Dread or Song of War.

The combat element is built around Belthanos and two reinforced units of Kurnoth Hunters with Greatscythes. Belthanos provides exceptional board projection and increasing the mobility of nearby Kurnothi, allowing the army to dictate engagements, specially with Zephyrspite Rush. The reinforced Scythes form a resilient frontline while still delivering significant damage, and the Aspect of Heartwood upgrade further improves their staying power by allowing Endless Growth to heal 6 wounds once per battle instead of D3, and returning a slain Scythe model to the unit.

The selected Battle Tactics also complement the list’s game plan. Blazing Onslaught rewards sustained pressure across multiple phases, while Burning for Vengeance encourages the army’s natural advance into enemy territory, combining board control with consistent combat output.

Overall, this is a focused and highly synergistic list that combines elite infantry, outstanding magical support and strong battlefield projection into a cohesive strategy. Congratulations again to Anthony on an excellent performance.
