Combined arms is Warlord Games’ first board game but more importantly for the Bolt Action, Blood Red Skies and Cruel Seas players amongst you, it’s their first campaign supplement as well.
What does that mean? Well you’re able to play Combined Arms as a stand alone game using the pieces in the box to conquer Europe etc. Or you can link games of Blood Red Skies, Bolt action or Cruel Seas together for one large campaign.
Credit Warlord Games
The boxed set is priced at a very reasonable £50 and includes maps, cards and all the tokens you need to wage a complete campaign.
Bolt Action – Combined Arms is a strategic board game that commands the players to face off, seize the initiative and outwit their foe amidst the fog of war. Each game will see you fighting for control of air, land, and sea in order to claim objectives and hold them against the enemy.
Choose your theatre of war, from the western and eastern fronts to North Africa and the Pacific. Each theatre has its own challenges and opportunities, some rewarding control over the sea, some rewarding control over the skies. How many of your precious resources will you sink into each, and how much will be left to control the land? Will you rely on stealth as you move units secretly, springing up where you are least suspected, or will you attempt to overwhelm your enemy with brutal overkill?
Combined Arms can be played as a stand-alone game or players can incorporate Bolt Action, Blood Red Skies, Cruel Seas, or Victory at Sea for an epic continent-spanning campaign. Unique cards link your campaign with your chosen wargames, meaning your choices in the campaign could mean victory or defeat on the tabletop.
Combined Arms is available for Pre-order and will be shipped to customers in May.

I’ve updated the January AoS stats with a number of tournaments that happened at the end of the month, namely those in bold in the list below. Going forwards from February onwards, I’m only going to include tournaments where more than 16 players attended.
Be wary those, these are for all the one day and two day events that we’ve covered plus two or three more. All armies are at 2,000 points and using the current rules and FAQ’s.
The below list are the tournaments that have been used to populate this data.

Most Selected Grand Alliance
Table before LVO Update
Table after LVO update
With an increase of 455 additional armies to the table, the percentages have barely changed, with Order still top at 41.9% of all armies present at tournaments in January. The biggest change is to Death’s representation post the LVO, with their share increasing to 16.3% from 12.5%.
Grand Alliance Win Rates
Before LVO Update
After LVO Update
Order have claimed the top spot from Destruction post the LVO update, with Destruction falling to below 50% win rate overall. Death and Chaos pretty much remain the same.
Cities of Sigmar take over from Idoneth Deepkin to lead the table here with a massive 69.0% win rate over 71 games. With Declan and the Big Waaagh! in second. However, let’s narrow this down to the more popular factions who have played at least 50 games:
A lot more factions in this table now with Cities and Idoneth dominating the win rates. Kruleboyz, Fyreslayers and Skaventide prop the rest up, all with win rates of less that 40% (this doesn’t bode well for my Kruleboyz at Burning Skies next month!).
Top 10 Most Selected Sub-Faction
Before LVO Update
After LVO Update
It’ll probably come as no surprise that the Hammers of Sigmar still lead the table in the most played sub-faction.
Skaventide have dropped completely from the table.
Top 10 Win rates for Sub-Factions with 20+ Games
Cities of Sigmar/Living City now top this table at 75.9% win rate over 29 games. While the Beasts of Chaos who are getting their (much needed) White Dwarf update shortly are sitting at the bottom of the table with just 28% wins from their 25 games.
So Games Workshop have a number of jobs available at their head office which unless you’re on Linkedin or actively looking at their recruitment page you may not know about.

Hachette have recently announced another Age of Sigmar part build, which will be their fourth working with Games Workshop following the successes of their previous collaborations.
Caution! Here be Dragons
Stormbringer is based around the Dominion box set, with a lot of additions (yes, including dragons!). The main antagonists of the series will be the Orruks against the Stormcast Eternals.
While aimed at attracting new members to the hobby, these part work series are always a great way to pick up some of the models you need for a lot cheaper than the RRP.
As with the previous collections, they’ll be 80 issues with the first two priced at £2.99 and £5.99 respectively followed by £8.99 an issue after that. Like the previous collections they’ll also be issued weekly.
The first four issues include:
Issue 1 – Orruk Killaboss with Stab-Grot and Knight-Arcanum (and dice) and battle mat) for £2.99
Issue 2 – 10x Gutrippas with stikkas for £5.99
Issue 3 – 5x Stormcast Vindicators for £8.99
Issue 4 – A paint special with Retributor Armour, Leadbelcher, Kantor Blue and Orruk Flesh all included.
That’s great value for money if you collect either of those armies already! Here at Woehammer I’m considering signing up for the magazine myself to give us two ‘Studio’ armies at the end of the run.
For the premium subscription (£2 per issue) you’ll also get four additional magazine with extra models. These being Yndrasta, Killaboss on Great Gnashtoof, Grundstok Gunhauler and Dankboss Troggoth.
While it’s available in newsagents from today, you’ll only be able to get your hands on the first four issues until they confirm there is enough interest in the subscription. So you likely won’t receive any other issues until the Summer.
I have bought the new Epic Battles: Waterloo by Warlord Games and I’m slowly making my way through the painting much like Declan (when I’m not painting those pesky Kruleboyz). However, one thing I’ve noticed (as I’m sure many others have as well), is that the models are epic in scale but the basing and the rules are standard Black Powder. What I mean by this is that a standard unit in Epic:Waterloo is the same as a standard unit in regular Black Powder.
This got me thinking to how you could have truly cinematic and epic battles in Black Powder by converting the inches to centimetres (like many others have done).
By doing this, you can play a regular game of black Powder on a much smaller play area – 2.4 feet by 1.6 feet rather then 6′ x 4′. But also, it gives you the option of playing much, much larger games on a regular table.
The only issue is the basing and miniatures. if you take a standard unit in Black Powder with a frontage of 240mm and divide this so it suits the cm measurements rather than inches (i.e. dividing 240mm by 2.5) you’ll get a standard unit frontage of 96mm (let’s call it 10cm). If we use increments of 20mm then the basing could look something like this:
The great thing about his, is that if you use Baccus Napoleonic 6mm infantry you can get two large bases completed for just £8.00!
But what about different formations. Well these could either be represented by a dice in one of the dice holders on the base (i.e. 3, for line, 4 for square etc) or you could just model some other bases as Square and attack column etc. I’m inclined by the later personally.
The other dice holder can also be used to measure the units stamina. For Dice holders I’m always inclined to use Pendraken.
But I’d like to know the opinions of those experienced in Black Powder and what they think!
Da Great South Waagh! was a five game event over two days that took place in the UK on 12th and 13th Feb. It saw a massive 72 players duking it out to be claimed champion.
Most Selected Faction/Subfaction
Stormcast Eternals/Hammers of Sigmar once again see themselves at the top of the most selected faction/Sub-faction sheet making up 10% of all the armies present. Stormcast were also represented by 13 armies from differing sub-factions. If you’re planning to go to an event, its almost worth making sure your army can counter Stormcast, Cities and Seraphon at the moment.

Last Weeks Poll Results for Orders
Here are the results from last weeks polls.
Based on these results, the following wording will be added to our living rules:
MOVEMENT
INFANTRY & VEHICLES
All infantry moves at a BASE MOVEMENT RATE (BMR) of 5” and all vehicles move at a BMR of 8”, however depending on the faction or the type of unit this can vary. Whatever a unit’s movement is will be shown under that unit’s movement statistic on their FACTION SHEET.
MOVEMENT ORDERS
Once a unit receives a move order, that unit can make a move up to its maximum move distance. Remember that a unit can be ordered up to twice per turn and both orders can be move orders.
As well as the above, I’ve written up an introduction for the game along with some others bits and bobs.
THIS WEEKS POLLS
Continuing our polls around movement, we need to take into account aerial and space units. For example, in a ground combat theatre where infantry and vehicles are involved and moving at 5″ and 8″ respectively, what should the movement be of an aircraft? Also if the theatre only involved Aircraft what should their movement be then? How about in Space, what should Spaceship movement rates be?

Warfare is an inescapable part of the Star Wars universe, from the Rebel Alliance’s defeat in the Battle of Hoth to a few elite Rebel strike teams taking on a legion of stormtroopers on the Forest Moon of Endor. You can seize your chance to get your boots on the ground and lead your troops to victory with Star Wars: Legion, a miniatures game of thrilling infantry battles in the Star Wars universe!
Star Wars: Legion invites you to enter the ground battles of the Galactic Civil War as the commander of a unique army of miniatures filled with troopers, powerful ground or repulsor vehicles, and iconic characters like Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. While innovative mechanics for command and control simulate the fog of war and the chaos of battle, the game’s unpainted, easily assembled minis give you a canvas to create the Star Wars army you’ve always wanted to lead into battle — whether you fight for the monolithic, oppressive Galactic Empire or the ragtag Rebel Alliance.
The Fifth Trooper YouTube channel has produced an excellent video explaining Star Wars: Legion.
If you’re interested in getting into Star Wars: Legion, then I recommend you look at the Fifth Trooper Network on Youtube for lots of guides and podcasts all based on Star Wars: Legion.
