Roland Rivera: It’s hard to gauge how strong this list was, as it basically only played a 1-day tournament’s worth of games while every other participant in this article played 2 days’ worth. Still, 3-0 is a good record, and this list has some interesting choices that make it worth examining in further detail.
Slow-moving infantry has not done especially well this season, but the pilot here is scoffing at that notion and doubling down on units of Ardboys to help him secure the middle of the board. Interestingly, this is being combined with Kragnos (who projects an aura that makes all units within it charge 3D6″) and the Ironjawz Brawl subfaction (which gives units +1 Attacks when they make a charge roll of 8 or more) to make them aggressive volume attackers, rather than the anvils they are typically used as. This strategy is complemented by a Weirdnob Shaman, which can give them access to Crit (2 hits) and teleport a unit into a better charging position, Warchanters which can provide a very potent +1 Damage buff, and Zoggrok who can give a unit Crit(mortal). The roster is rounded out by a unit of Brute Ragerz, which can give the list a bit of reach thanks to being able to run and charge.
All in all, the decision to take tough units like Ardboys and rev up their damage as much as the army’s resources will allow is an interesting one, and seems to have paid off, albeit in a limited sample. Perhaps this may be a direction for Ironjawz to explore going forward.
