Roland Rivera: Playing Nurgle this season has been a bit of a puzzle in that while you are a very potent defensive army that can easily put together castle formations that are daunting for your opponents to attack, the roster can struggle with reaching faraway objectives and consistently scoring Battle Tactics. However, I think this list has found a nice balance between reinforcing its strengths and shoring up its weaknesses.
The list features what I feel are Nurgle’s premier units in the Scourge of Ghyran Rotigus and Putrid Blightkings. Rotigus is a potent, durable caster that helps you punch through armor, and Blightkings are your wall that helps you capture objectives (albeit slowly) and win fights. These are complemented by faster units in Orghotts Daemonspew and the Daemon Prince (via a Regiment of Renown). This Prince is among my favorite units that Nurgle has access to, as he is the best place to put your Corpulent Avalanche heroic trait, and overall gives the army something it usually lacks in a fast, punchy unit that can take out key targets.
These staples are supplemented by support units in the Lord of Blights (who makes Blightkings even scarier to charge into with his Anti-Charge Rend buff and the Witherstave to potentially impose strikes last), a Harbinger of Decay (to give you access to the potent Scourge of Ghyran prayer lore), and some Rotmire Creed (who can peck at weakened units and help you spread disease at range). Overall, I would describe this list as “all killer, no filler” and I am not surprised it performed as well as it did.
