Shadow of the Horned Rat: Marius Uberstrom

As a teenager I played Shadow of the Horned Rat and Dark Omens to excess. I always wanted a tabletop version of the army to play with as well.

Now that I’m in my forties, I can finally realise that dream.

This week we’ve a character who doesn’t feature in Shadow of the Horned Rat until you’re halfway through the campaign.

Since leaving the Celestial College twelve years ago, Marius Ubersbrom has dwelt in the remote peaks of the Grey Mountains. From this vantage point he has devoted his life to the divination of the stars. Divining a great calamity that would befall the Empire should the Grudgebringers fail in their task, he convinced Morgan Bernhardt to allow him to join his army.

To represent him in the game, I’ll be playing them as a Renegade Crowns Outcast Wizard. The model is just one of the old Empire Battlemage models.

I tried to keep to the original colour scheme and kept the colours to predominantly blue with the white markings across his robes.

Marius begins casting his spells from atop an abandoned tower.
Marius accompanies the Black Avengers into battle.

Marius will normally be using illusion magic (as celestial magic is no longer a thing). But it does give him access to Mind Razor which is always a good one.

Next week, Morgan.
