Herdstone

Ridge takes out a 5-0 in Canada with Beast of Chaos as they enjoy their swansong, before being moved back to square bases. The stats say that Beasts of Chaos are incredible with a 66% win rate, but this is very likely because the people playing them really like them – there aren’t many new players picking up this army.

Beasts still have walls of wounds to get through and Ridge’s is no exception with 1,400 points in 70 Bestigors leading the way. If you can’t beat these – you won’t beat Frederick!

You can’t shoot them (well, you can but it is -1 to wound) they have a reasonable 4+ armour and 6″ move and with 3 attacks each they can dish out some real damage. They have until 1st June to come out of forests to play so don’t criticise the good BoC players for having a last fling.

Even in AoS3 I couldn’t ever get the hang of playing against Idoneth and their tides… everything was so quick and that’s certainly still the case with Jordan and his 5-0 winning list for the Grand Clash.

When I said Idoneth were quick, Jordan’s really taken that to heart with the General’s Regiment being packed with movement. Morrsarr Guard move 14″, and cause extra damage on the charge (as well as the potential of mortal wounds). Meanwhile the Eidolon moves a paltry 10″ (!), can effectively increase Rend for his friends and can turn off enemy commands if he is charged.

It’s difficult to know target priority here, but the Morrsarr Guard are probably enemy number 1, and then hope you can survive every else as it smashes into you…. and whatever you do make sure you are not in combat in turn 3 – that High Tide hurts.

Nighthaunt
Death Stalkers

Manifestation Lore – Morbid Conjuration

General’s Regiment
Awlrach the Drowner (170)

Dreadscythe Harridans (170)

Vincent-Pierre has managed to take one of the weaker armies (win rate 46%) and take them to a very impressive 5-0 at a major tournament. Not only that he has brought Hexwraiths, which has to make him a hero for the people… why?

Yes, those things they are holding are thin bits of plastic! – Games Workshop

If any army is in danger of breaking it’s Nighthaunt (with an honourable mention to Slaanesh of course). I can barely touch my models when I’m playing against Nighthaunt for fear of breaking my opponents carefully loved models.

But back to the game…! What do they do now?

Well, looks like it’s the speed you’re paying for here. They can do plink mortal wound damage on the charge and their scythes are 2 damage on the charge which is good, but they are riding dead horses – and we know what happens when you try to flog them…

They hit of 5+s!! The junk end of the to-hit roll and where you normally see Grots, not Nagash’s undead monstrosities.

Volume of attacks from Nighthaunt was always the key, and multiple charges can still inflict -1 to hit, -1 save and strike last to an opponent, but at least these are Once Per Turn abilities now. Nighthaunt have to strike and kill one unit at a time to get the most out of their army and that is why they are difficult to use.
