Dr Lupo: Fred’s Sylvaneth army list is a classic example of the “monster mash” approach, featuring powerful units like Alarielle, Belthanos, and Drycha, along with several supporting models. Both Alarielle and Belthanos are designed to operate on the flanks, where they can crush enemy units and apply significant pressure. This strategy allows Fred to single out and focus on one unit with the support of Alarielle and Belthanos, powering through with one  the other can utilize Strike & Fade, creating multiple threats for the opponent to manage.

One of the standout features of Fred’s list is the block of Kurnoth Hunters with Scythes, backed up by the Branchwych and Drycha. This combination brings several tactical advantages to the table. Drycha and the Branchwych can force a charging enemy unit to fight last and reduce the length of enemy charges, disrupting aggressive plays and protecting key assets. The Kurnoth Hunters with Scythes also have anti-charge capabilities, making them devastating on the counterattack. With recent points reductions, Kurnoth Hunters have become more accessible, allowing them to effectively hold flanks and objectives while the faster units create chaos elsewhere.

Recent Battlescroll updates have been a big win for Sylvaneth players. Points reductions and subtle tweaks have made units like Kurnoth Hunters, Drycha, and some other units more attractive than ever. As a result, I believe Sylvaneth armies are expected to become more common at competitive events.

Overall, Fred’s monster mash is a fantastic showcase of what Sylvaneth can do in the current meta. The list offers power, flexibility, and a toolkit full of surprises. If you’re looking for inspiration for your next list or just want to see what the forest spirits are capable of, this is a great place to start.

Boggy: The deluded nobility of the Flesh-eater Courts rise again! This Impassioned Serfs list leans into the new General’s Handbook 2025-26 design space and showcases the best of what the updated FEC battletome has to offer — layered defensive tricks, reliable scoring, and a flexible hammer-and-anvil core that plays the mission exceptionally well.

With three drops, this army sits comfortably in the mid-drop category, allowing it to react or dictate tempo depending on the opponent. It’s built around Ushoran, Mortarch of Delusion, and two big reinforced bricks of Cryptguard backed by Crypt Horrors, supported by the versatile Abhorrant Cardinal and a Ghoul King on Terrorgheist with the ever-popular Stronger in Madness and Savage Abomination loadout.

The backbone of the list revolves around efficient battle tactic play. The
Flesh-eater Courts battle tactics cards — Master the Paths and Restless Energy — pair perfectly with this composition. The Royal Zombie Dragon often acts as the scoring piece for Restless Energy, taking advantage of the D6 post-setup move to pressure early objectives or reposition for control.

The Cardinal, stationed near the Charnel Throne, becomes a key support piece. With Charnel Vestments granting +2 to chant, he reliably shuts down wards and positive save modifiers — crucial utility in a meta packed with defensive stacking.

Ushoran himself takes centre stage (as any self-respecting Mortarch should), directing the court with his auras and command abilities. The Cryptguard and Horrors then do the real heavy lifting. Players often underestimate these units, but in this configuration they’re tougher than they look.

Each reinforced block of Cryptguard acts as a semi-independent fortress. They combine the Fight-First mechanic (once per turn) with the army’s battle formation ability that prevents pile-ins for 1 CP — meaning one unit fights first while the other locks the enemy in place. This synergy effectively forms an ultimate defensive wall, letting the Court grind opponents down rather than being swept away.

The Ghoul King on Royal Terrorgheist remains the army’s mobile hammer. With Stronger in Madness and Savage Abomination, it can hit hard and still soak a surprising amount of punishment. Combined with Ushoran’s support, the duo dominates the centre of the board and punishes anything that overextends.

The Royal Zombie Dragon plays a more utilitarian role: a fast, durable scoring piece that supports battle tactics, provides presence where needed, and leverages the army’s mobility tricks.

This list thrives when it’s allowed to control tempo. It rewards patient play, smart use of CP, and careful positioning of its layered defensive tools. Its biggest strength lies in its ability to trade well and outscore opponents on battle tactics.

So far, it’s performed impressively — taking 2nd place at the Bread or Dead tournament and proving that Flesh-eater Courts are far from brainless beasts. In the hands of a savvy general, these “Impassioned Serfs” are disciplined, deliberate, and surprisingly hard to kill.

This list exemplifies the current FEC meta — leveraging resilient bodies, strong centre-board control, and tactical flexibility. While it hasn’t yet faced heavy shooting armies, its ability to lock down melee engagements and reliably score keeps it firmly in competitive contention.

A well-balanced blend of madness and method — exactly what the Flesh-eater Courts should be.
