Roland Rivera: Ironjawz has stumbled out of the gate this season as an army, but that plight mainly has to do with the infantry – underestimate their cavalry and monsters at your peril. Will Reeves has chosen to lean into this premise by using the Krazogg’s Grunta Stampede Army of Renown, which trades in the Ironjawz Waaagh and access to Wizards and Priests for some useful mobility tools that supplement the Gore-Gruntas’ and Maw-Gruntas’ high base Move characteristic. It also takes advantage of Gore-Gruntas having a good combination of high health for their points, as well as large bases to cover space on the board.

A crucial part of this strategy is the reinforced unit of Gore-Gruntas – the Grunta Stampede lets you move one unit up in the Deployment phase, and 6 Gore-Gruntas on large cavalry bases packing 30 health on a 3+ save are a strong candidate for this, as that can help you establish control over the middle of the board and threat to pin your opponent in their deployment zone. Beyond that, the 3-man units of Gore-Gruntas are utility units that can screen, stall, or gang up on weaker units, whereas the Maw-Gruntas bring the damage, as well as a potentially potent rampage against elite infantry and cavalry in Eatin’ On Da Hoof, which can trim their numbers before combat is even joined.

Overall, this list relies on its speed to be where it needs to exert influence on objectives and on its ability to set up favorable combats (such as by using the Maw-Grunta Gouger’s strikes-last rampage) to take out key targets. As evidenced by the record, this is one of the strongest strategies currently available to Ironjawz, and don’t be surprised if it becomes a recurring presence at podiums.

Roland Rivera: Here we have a somewhat unusual Nurgle list that is operating under a very simple premise – pin and win. It has the ability to put very durable units in its opponent’s face right away, forcing them to cut their way out if they want to interact with the rest of the board. It also has access to multiples of such waves, which makes it quite the challenge for some armies to fight through.

The list revolves around Pusgoyle Blightlords and the pregame positioning afforded to them by the Affliction Cyst Battle Formation. 4-man units of Pusgoyle Blightlords are pretty durable, with 32 total health on a 4+ save backed up by a 5+ Ward, and this list is bringing 4 such units to bear on the battlefield. 2 of them will be moving up via Affliction Cyst, whereas the other 2 will likely be establishing early control over the objectives and acting as a 2nd wave if necessary. The Lord of Afflictions is mainly here as a Hero hunter, as Rustfang can make it so that he can water down a Hero’s save, and his flying mobility as a lone base can make it easier to sneak him into the needed position to chop down a Hero behind his little entourage.

A final, underrated aspect of this list is that it’s all in 1 regiment (and thus 1 drop), which in turn makes it very likely that you will get choice of turn order in the first round. The strategy isn’t foolproof (some armies can turn off Wards or beat the Blightlords to the objectives, and others just shrug and blast through them with sheer hitting power), but against elite armies that will have to commit significant resources to potentially killing the Blightlords, and can somewhat often fail to do so before they find themselves insurmountably behind on points.
