Keegan Graves: This list is a culmination of all the good stuff cities has access to more or less.  It’s designed to be a “I’m better at melee combat than you” list with a healthy smattering of shooting units.

Thalia is a monstrously good tech piece that, with the help of the Cavaliers, will control the tempo of the game. The name of the game here is superior mobility and activation control.  The Cavaliers will always be where they want to with their charge in while in combat ability, and Thalia allows an infantry unit to move in the enemy hero phase.  Top this off with the steelhelms forcing whatever they are in combat with to fight them, and the opponent will never get to pick a comfortable activation.

In order to force the opponent to engage,  the list brings some solid shooting. Gate gargants and a cannon can easily blow up a unit every turn, and the Marshall on Ogor helps by giving them +1 to hit a unit he points at.

The list overall has a ton of synergy and access to superior movement.  Gate gargants on top of their shooting and melee can give out retreat and charge as well as +2 to charge. Beloved leader negates debuffs for units under orders wholly within 12″ which is helpful in getting you melee damage through.

General game plan is focusing down problem units with the shooting, and gunking up the board with armor while you farm victory points. Waste the opponents time with tricks and bad activations, and then press the go button with Thalia to kill them dead.

Hanna Leppänen: Solomon’s list is a Daemon archetype, with LoC + Kairic Tome (ww 6″ +1 or -1 to cast for friendly units, once per spell, but can otherwise use it for every cast), 20 Blues as a tarpit, almost compulsory 6 Enlightened as the hammer, with a lot of chip shooting which can add up quite a bit. Battle tactics are pretty normal for Tzeentch, Siege and Burning, which are reasonably easy for this list to achieve. Mutants and Mad Things give a lot of flexibility with MSU based list, threatening all the board edges, especially with Flamers.

Tzeentch generally has a couple of almost autopicks with 2 Spawns for Smoke&Mirrors usage, Curseling for melee casts and great spell and Enlightened for decently reliable hammer that can pick up most of the units in one go, only to disappear with S&M, Fold Reality or in this case, LoC spell Temporal Manipulation, which allows you to move a unit that was not set up this turn ww 18″ with normal move (so no retreating from combat).

The list has daemon recursion from LoC, which gives the list additional board presence, bringing back 2 Flamers for 3 dead, or Exalted Flamer/Burning Chariot wholly back for 1 CP. Exalted Flamer is “protected” by Arcane sacrifice trait, which gives D6 Fate pts if killed for the first time, then easily revived to give the -1 save possibility if it does damage, which does apply to shooting, unlike the Curseling Spell. LoC aura keeps daemons alive with -1 to hit, fate pts and rage dice. Also Bolt of Tzeentch and Sigil can dish out -1 to wound, which can make the Blues really hard to kill, especially with Weapon Curse (no weapon abilities) from the Changecaster. You really want to kill those Blues in one go, or they multiply to Brimstone horrors at the end of the turn, and then rallied with 9 dice from the Changecaster.

As said before the shooting element of this list deserves some looking into. Everything except for Enlightened and Chaos Spawns have a shooting attack, many of which do D3 dmg. This can be quite a surprise if you’re used to basically no shooting after last season with lots of obscuring. While Tzeentch shooting has poor rend in general, AoD is hard to use against so many sources of shooting and chip shooting can really add up to a lot of damage, especially with possible Exalted Flamer -1 to save debuff.

Curseling with Devolving Aura is a cool idea, because of the mobility Curseling can provide with combat phase casting, and all the other movement teleport tricks Tzeentch is entitled to. This can easily lead to him hopping around, giving max control score of 1 to units every hero phase, lasting until the start of your next turn. Take that OC 4 Gluttons!

Congrats to Solomon for going 5-0!
