This is the top three AoS lists for the Tax Man Cometh II that took place in the US on the 12th asnd 13th of April 2025. It saw 47 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament.
This event also has an optional Highlander challenge, meaning that each player was only allowed to bring one of each warscroll. This came with an additional prize.

Daniel Patterson: This is the classic Belakor 1-drop. Due to points increases, I had to drop the MSU Chaos Knights for MSU Chaos Warriors, but it is still essentially the same list that was popular before the latest Battle-scroll. You bring two mega-hammers (Reinforced Varanguard and Chaos Chosen) with fight-twice and threaten to end the game with a double turn ever turn after you have sent it. I am bringing the Dread Banner on my Chaos Chosen to deny crucial All-Out-Defense and Power-Through commands, along with a Chaos Lord to fight in tandem with the Chaos Chosen or Chaos Warriors and give (+1 to Wound) for the activation. In the case of the Chosen this applies to both activations! Things have gotten trickier now with the Slaanesh mark nerf, but you can still get true 3D6 charge on one unit from the STD spell lore, Khorne mark your mega-hammer, then bridge in and delete stuff. Luckily when it mattered, my crucial casts and charge rolls came through!
Usually, you are giving the turn at the start of the game and waiting for an opening, threatening a crucial double turn. I gave the turn in 4/5 games and got two crucial double turns in this tournament. I only took first turn in round 5 against KO. I knew my opponent was Alpha-Charging people off the table with two Arkanaut Frigate’s “Assault Boat” ability, letting all of his melee threats Strike-First in his turn. This is something even Belakor’s “Deadly Trap” Strike-First on a (4+) in the opponents turn can’t threaten to beat, so I Alpha-Charged him first and charged his much more fragile melee units before they could charge me. My 3D6 charge was big enough, with the surrounding terrain, to deny my opponent the Counter-Charge they were looking for and that was all she wrote.

Luis Mendoza: Congratulations to Tristan, on his 4 – 1, with a beautiful list that shows synergies outside the hero phase. The list is developed under Sentinels of Bleak Citadels, 5+ ward on a ruination’s unit. Neave is the General in this list, with a pretty decent performance vs Heroes, and iteraction with the Neave’s companions to assure 5+ ward, also counting with Lorai as lonely wizard, to bring Primal-Energy bodies into the table. Another 2 heroes are adding abilities to this list, Bastian with a deployment movement in up to 3 infantry units besides to the free All-out-Attack; and finally Lord Terminos, with the First Strike combo to chain a continous attack with Reclusians.
The list shows 2 blocks of synergies, Vanguard and Ruination. The first is showing the already proven Palladors + Hurricane Crossbows – not common seen them on lists -, both reinforced. The Raptors’ shot production is high in volume, but would appear inefficient due to the 12″ range, at least on paper and be deceptive, however their ability to run and charge can level the threat range. Once they damage the target the buffs in +1 wound on the melee of any Vanguard units that attack the same target; here’s when the Palladors and Neave appear, The cavalry unit is fast and can soften up any target by repeating its firing profile in the charge phase and then slain its objective in combat. Neave and its companion are the special unit to face heroes and if they get the wound boost the damage could be nothing despicable.
The second block is the Ruination chamber, where Terminos and Reclusians can be benefitted by from Bastian’s ability moving in deployment; Reclusians are the hammer unit and if they hit immediately after Terminos triggers the Strike First both units can deal with any tanky unit. Same case in Prosecutors, they’re the best anti shooting unit, with the chance to ignore the Covering Fire. Any of these units are a great target to use Special Assignment or Priority Target, besides the 5+ ward on them plus Finest hour create really dangerous and resilient units.
The list is being completed by Primal Energy manifestations, able to heal your units or getting an extra output damage on your opponent units.
