Chat with the Champs: How to Fight Nighthaunt
Peter: It’s clear Nighthaunt are the big bad at the moment. So, for those who’ve had success against them, just how do you beat them?
Justin Clark: Seems like atm hot pick mostly board wide is cav. Most cav are dependent on charges to get the most out of their units.
NH are a pretty hard counter to that because of their movement tricks. Seems good wound density and ability to grind do well against NH, for example, ogors.
I have a feeling we’d notice infantry lists performing better against NH than cav based lists as a generic trend.
Erik Fleugel: What I have seen them struggle into at the last GT was high mobility LRL and endless screens and shooting (i.e., Tzeench). You need a volume of attacks, good screens, and mobility.
Fittsy: If you can’t beat them, join them! Nighthaunt has one of the best win rates against Nighthaunt :p
Randal Brasher: Cities also have fairly good saves for their frontline and excellent mobility, which makes the NH player need to overcommit to clear an area. It’s not an amazing match-up for CoS, but a competent pilot can at least ensure a coin flip.
Jeremy Lefebvre: CoS is tougher to remove, so NH has a hard time taking a point from them. Forcing them to over commit, letting the other cities’ units to take their points. In summary, force Nighthaunt to over commit and grind them out with weight of dice while killing their heros.
