A few months ago I made some woods for Orders & Omens (10mm scale) that I though came out really well and looked quite realistic.
I wanted to do the same for my Old World and Age of Sigmar games, so decided to try this at 28mm.
I started by sourcing some 300mm long and 6mm wide plastic rods. And started sticking them to a plastic card base I’d shaped.
I made the rods 2.5 inches long each. They were easy to cut with a craft knife, but really I’d recommend a hobby saw.
Eventually, I’d stuck the sticks on and painted the trunks and base brown and cut another plastic card shape for the canopy, which I painted green.
I then based it with my Geek Gaming basing material and stuck the foliage to the canopy with super glue.
Overall the whole thing start to finish only took me around an hour to an hour and a half.
I’m pleased with the results, but there are a few things I’m going to change on the next one.
Firstly, I’m going to stick the trunks to the canopy rather than the base, this way units in Old World can easily move across the footprint without hindrance.
I’m also going to cut down the length of the trunks to around 1.5 inches. As they stand a little too tall.
Finally I’m going to add some more thickness to the canopy so that it doesn’t seem as flat.
Hopefully I’ll have another version to show you next week. In the meantime this one will be good to use for my skirmish games.
