I was asked earlier today what our stats showed in the way of tournament attendance and whether the stats showed a decrease in the number of players attending events since 4th edition was released.
So I got to work….

I recommend right clicking on the image above and either downloading or pressing view.
This data is drawn from BCP, Stats and Ladders, and Ecksen for all GT and RTT events we have had inside our database since January 2022.
Looking at July in 2024, we can see a large drop in the player base, and this was due to everyone pulling out or not attending events before 4th edition dropped. After all, who wants to play 3rd edition when 4th edition was around the corner?
So, taking the data from August to December in 2023 as a comparison to the same months in 2024, we have the following:
2023 (Aug-Dec): 25,149
2024 (Aug-Dec): 26,381
There’s actually an increase according to our database (BCP, Stats and Ladders, and Ecksen registered events) of roughly 5% year on year.
While January in 2024 had 5,010 players attending events, January 2025 had 5,292. So, while LVO was a tad smaller this year, the number of players attending events overall increased.

In Germany I see an increase of about 10-20% in events. Having said that, it is clear that a lot of veteran players are bored because of uninspired new battletomes and listmaking pushing to specific builds.
This is a good point. The streamlining of the rules has perhaps attracted more newer players but, in turn, perhaps have had the opposite effect on veterans
