Last year the arrival of a small human resulted in my painting and hobby to decrease significantly including a lot fewer tournaments (ie 1 or 2 instead of ten to twelve).

Unfortunately, tournaments was how I gave myself deadlines and, crucially, made progress on my armies. Having lost this impetus, I have also painted a lot less. Whilst I don’t expect to get back to pre-small human levels, I’d like to get more painting and hobby completed so I will be jumping on an internet theme…

WIP Wednesday

I will post my current WIP each week and hopefully there will be change each week and the pile of models will reduce or change each week. If there is no article, it means no progress, or I’m taking a much needed break! I expect most of the models to be included in future ‘Hobby Updates’ with detailed pictures and the paint scheme so I won’t include much detail in future WIP Wednesday – expect pictures and a short description of progress.

First update

My first update has quite a lot on the painting table. I like to have options as I have limited time so I do more in-depth things on Thursday evening when some friends of mine do a Zoom meeting to paint; and other times I can grab 15 minutes so it’s better to have models which are easy to paint, or don’t require a lot for the next step to be finished.

The Warlord Games (Bolt Action) Soviets are to practice an idea I had with a mostly contrast paint colour scheme (it’s going well so far); and I am intending to paint the Reaper dragon in the same manner as my other terrain from last year.

I have undercoated my Space Marine sprues for Legion Imperialis with the intention to paint them as Blood Angels. Those who know the sprue will see that the Dreadnoughts are clipped out and I have also attached the missile launchers to the Space Marines on the sprue… hopefully this will make the painting easier.

In September 2023 Games Workshop did a make to order which included the Imperial Bastion. I immediately thought these models could really help with my idea of a Warhammer 40k diorama, which I mentioned in the resolution article recently. They eventually arrived last week and they are big… very big! So hopefully will form a good centre piece (or two). My intent is to have a diorama including my Blood Angels and Baal PDF so there’s lots of red expected – as such I think I’ll paint these in green and use the box art as a guide.

Next Week
