The Old World: Stats Database

Advertisements

I’ve not had time to update the database this week.

But I’ve included our entire database below, along with a system to filter it so that you can check win rates based on your own parameters.

We have removed players’ lists, as much of the data comes from BCP, and we do not wish to circumvent their subscription system.

The 2nd tab, titled “Tournaments Included” is what drives the stats side of the database.

By using the filters on columns C to H, you can decide which factors you would like to include. Then, once you’ve decided, click the indicator for that tournament in column J to either Y or N.

Tournament Filters
Inclusion Column

Once you’ve decided which tournaments to include or exclude head over to the tab titled “Win Rate Based on Filters”.

At the top, you’ll see a bar where you can either count as a loss of include them as 50% win and 50% loss.

Once that’s done, the table below will automatically populate.

Enjoy! If you did enjoy this, why not join our friendly Discord?

Also, below is a sneak preview of a little something I’m working on…..

Daughters of Khaine – Battlescroll: Tactics of Andtor

All the data used in the charts on this article are drawn from events that have been hosted on Best Coast Pairings, Stats & Ladders and Ecksen using the points and FAQs from Battlescroll: Tactics of Andtor published in September 2023.

This chart shows the faction popularity, using the number of players using them at events.

The Combined win rate chart shows the overall win rate for these subfactions. This is the most comparable data to GW’s own metawatch articles. The figure in brackets shows the number of games featuring that subfaction the data is drawn from.

The above shows the win rates for each subfaction at GT events. These are events of single player tournaments of 2,000 points per player spread over a minimum of 5 rounds. This would be considered the most competitive view, with many of the players being experienced and looking to optimise their lists.

RTT/Casual shows the win rates for events that are not classified as a GT event. This could be doubles, teams, narrative, but mostly revolves around single day events known as RTTs.

The nitty gritty of a faction! This chart shows the win rate for lists where the specified warscroll has been included in the players list. The figure in brackets shows the number of games that featured the warscroll.

This shows the source of the Grand Strategy used in the players’ games, whether they are from the Battletome or the General’s Handbook.

Here you can see both the win rate of each Grand Strategy when it was used, as well as the popularity of the strategies.

Like our Grand Strategy source chart, this shows the same information but for Command Traits.

Once again, we can see the win rate of each Command Trait when used in players’ lists. The figure in brackets shows the number of games where that Command Trait was used.

Finally, we have the win rates for Endless Spells when included in lists.

Cities of Sigmar – Warscroll Datacards

Advertisements

Reading the Datacards

Each Datacard has three distinct sections; Charge Chance, Resilience and Average Damage Output.

Charge Chance

This graph shows the move and charge distances each unit can achieve and shows the chance of them achieving this distance as a percentage.

Resilience

This table shows how much damage would be required on average to destroy the unit. This is split into the various rend types most commonly found in Age of Sigmar. For example, the unit shown in the image above would need 18 damage from -2 rend weapons for the enemy to have a chance at destroying it.

This can be cross-referenced with another units average damage output to see what kind of damage they’ll do to it.

Average Damage Output

This simply shows how much damage on average the unit is expected to inflict after saves against the various save types. If there are multiple load-out choices, then these are shown separately, as is any missile damage.

Seraphon Faction Breakdown – December 2023

Advertisements

SUBFACTIONS

Overall, disregarding the unknown lists (lists which didn’t specify which subfaction they were) Fangs of Sotek appears to be the most subfaction at GTs with a win rate of 58%, while in RTT & Casual settings Dracothion’s Tail appears to have the run of the tables with a win rate 60%. Both however shake out at 55% across the formats and outperform the other subfactions by a fair bit.

Thunder Lizard and Koatl’s Claw both appear to struggle regardless of the format and neither can break into the 45-55% win zone that most people see as the ideal win rates.

Despite their lacklustre performance on the tables, Koatl’s Claw appears to be the go-to subfaction for most players. While Fangs of Sotek takes the 2nd spot.

Ramon Silva: I think they’re honestly one of the most solid written books because they hold a magical castle very well with good summoning and good spells

And then they also have the dinosaurs to play more of a timy type game. But that can also be successful in its own way.

Here we can see how the subfaction players generally perform at GTs. The grey bar shows how many players achieve 0 to 2 wins at a GT, if this is less than 50%, then that faction has a positive win rate, as shown in the yellow bar (those players who achieve 3 or more wins), the blue segment shows those who achieve 4 or more wins, and finally the green segment shows the percentage of players who go on to win all 5 games.

This chart can show a lack of balance via results. If all factions were perfectly balanced (along with player skills), then the opposing bars (i.e. 5-0 and 0-5, 3-2 and 2-3) would be the same length.

FACTION MATCHUPS

Note that these stats are across all game formats.

Slaves to Darkness appears to be the easiest faction for Seraphon player with a 66% win rate against the spikey boys. This is closely followed (probably unsurprisingly by Kruleboyz at 65% win rate, and Sylvaneth at 63%. Factions shown in the lighter green are favourable towards Seraphon with a win rate of between 55-60%. The yellow factions are ideally balanced against Seraphon, falling between the 45-55% bracket. Those in orange are between 40-45% win rate. Those in red and the factions that Seraphon struggles the most against with a win rate of less than 40%.

Ramon Silva: Obviously, an army wide five up spell ignore does wonders...

Michelle Anderson: On the stinky spectrum of 1-10, one being not stinky and ten being maximum stink aura of fifteen feet…..

Seraphon are def a solid 7 stinky.

Fabien Barbusse: We need to separate Coalesced stinky and Starborne stinky.

Ramon Silva: Yeah, like that’s the thing, too. I was thinking about after I said it’s a clear counter…

It’s only to half because to Big Lizzy’s, I don’t know how korne does so well…

But I theorize they trade better because they get to pick the fights better.

Peter Holland: I think we have to remember the matchup stats are skewed towards Koatl’s Claw and Fangs of Sotek.

ROUND PERFORMANCE

At the beginning of a GT, the game could go either way for Seraphon and with the pairings being completely random (in most cases) its down to the luck of the draw who the players may come up against.

Following the 1st round tie, the 2nd round appears to fall slightly more in Seraphon’s favour with a win rate in this round of 54%. This falls back again to essentially a coin toss in rounds 3 and 4 followed by a favourable matchup for Seraphon in Round 5.

WARSCROLL PERFORMANCE

This chart shows the win rates of lists which include the warscroll (in Blue) compared to those that don’t (in Orange).

The Ripperdactyl Riders and Chief appear to have a good effect on win rates for Seraphon, with lists that include these touching around the 58-59% win rate mark – however bear in mind looking at the next chart, that these warscrolls only appear in very few lists and so could need more data before this claim is substantiated.

Ramon Silva: I feel so bad for the engine lovers.

Peter Holland: But (and a big one), it only appears in 1% of the lists.

Lodivicus: I’d love to see the Starborne data and coalesced data split (as mentioned above). The one thing that I’d be most interested in is how Tzeentch is beating Seraphon more than OBR? That’s not something I expected, and I think it is noteworthy.

Ramon Silva: I mean, they also get bonuses from spellcasts going off, so….

WARSCROLLS NOT USED

  • Kixi-Taka
  • Hunters of Huanchi with Dartpipes
  • Klaq-Trok
  • Starblood Stalkers

Player Stats – The Honest Wargamer

Advertisements

As Friday fast approaches, I wanted to give a special shout out to The Honest Wargamer and the Stats crew for bringing us loads of information on Age of Sigmar since the release of 3rd edition.

They have gathered information from all over the globe to bring us information on the State of the Meta and allow us Gloomspite players to not feel too bad about a 1-1-3!!

For those who haven’t been over to their site before I urge you to have a look

Welcome back! But the Stats Team have worked through the long nights and given us… Player Stats!!

If you’ve played in a 5 game (no comp) tournament in AOS3 you’ll likely find your name on here… along with paths to victory and how you line up with the other players in your region and get bragging rights for being the best in race – this is a great addition and means that you can be top of the pile even if your army is struggling at the moment. It’s great for those with only one army or those who like to stick to an army throughout a year.

It’s marking is the best 6 tournaments and then points for Win & Draw (which can be slightly higher for larger tournaments) in order to give a score out of 900. This means that even small 5 game tournaments will qualify and can get you loads of points so there’s no need to get to LVO each year!

I must admit to being biased here in that I like stats, and I’m on the list.. so forgive the following screenshots!

Top 16 in the world, with some big names there – many of which will be at AOS Worlds in Prague in May! Specially well done to Toby Meadows in 18th who has got there with only 4 tournament results and no defeats! Wow!!

If categorisations could cause wars, this might be one of them but UK & Ireland is one of the largest player bases in the world, and as we came out of COVID restrictions near to the release of AOS3 there a number of people who have had the opportunity to get to 6 toournaments. Mike is at the top, and is a superb player of Seraphon who is always around the top tables (with 2 5-0s and 3 4-1s out of 6 tournaments). With Owen Jackson (of Honest Wargamer fame), and Matt Mallow taking 2nd and 3rd so far.

Then there is by faction, although Big Waagh! are currently under represented in the Meta due to the love for Ironjawz. However Roger Barker tops it with 2 4-1s.

And you can get more detail on a individual player:

For GDPR purposes, I’ve selected myself… that’s definitely the reason

Which shows the event results from 5 game tournaments attended, as well as Event Path where applicable… where you can see all my losses in game 5!!

The points per tournament are given clearly as well, so you can see how you (or your mate) are doing and battle for the best in your local area.

And the final piece of the puzzle – you can look at player by faction to see how well you are performing within your army. Great for those armies that historically struggle — although as you can see from my 77th with Sons maybe not if you only play 1 tournament with them!

So… a huge Thank You to Rob (The Honest Wargamer) and Stats Team (led by Ziggy) for a great set of data and presenting if so easily!

Here’s to the next 5 months to see who finishes AOS3 on top. Who’s your money on?
