Faction Stats: Sons of Behemat (Nov ’24)

Everyone loves gargants, it’s just a shame GW doesn’t at the moment.

Battle Formation

There’s really not much to sat here. All of the battle formations are underperforming without much exception. No one is taking Stomper Tribe (6+ Ward for Mega-Gargants within 3″ of another). This was an error corrected on 28th November (thanks to Thomas in the comments for pointing it out) – Stomper Tribe actually allows 2 Mega-Gargants or Gargants that have not used their Rampage ability that turn to use the ‘Jump Up and Down‘ ability instead of the usual 1 unit.

Artefacts

I’m a little surprised no one has used the Amberstone Totem (allowing a Mega to run and charge). Glowy Lantern is popular as it allows one of your Gargants to become a Wizard and cast Manifestations. As is Extra-Calloused Feet, which adds 1 to the Attacks characteristic, Rend characteristic and Damage characteristic of the unit’s Almighty Stomp or Almightier Stomp attacks.

I can def provide some insight into Amberstone for you @woehammer.bsky.social, I’d near guarantee the reason it’s not showing is a lot of the time you use ‘Taker Tribe’ you’re selecting it as 2nd artefact at deployment. I use it in every single game, but I choose Mantle as my list artefact

Heroic Traits

Rabble Rouser is the first time we see some green in our charts for the Sons of Behemat. Allowing them to add 1 to charge rolls for friendly Sons of Behemat units while wholly within 12″ of the bearer. Would this not go well with the Amberstone Totem?

But most players are using Monstrously Tough, which adds a further 5 wounds onto the bearer.

Manifestations

Primal Energy is seeing a little success over the few games it’s been used. But the use of Manifestations within the Sons of Behemat lists is fairly limited for obvious reasons.

Warscrolls

Now we get down to the meat of the article. Most of the choices that players appear to be making revolve around King Brodd, a Gatebreaker (or two) and then a mix of the others. Very few players seem to be running the Beast-Smasher, Kragnos or Mancrushers in their lists.

Performance v Other Factions

One benefit for the Sons of Behemat is that they appear to be holding their own against the Stormcast Eternals, one of the more popular armies on the tournament circuits. While they do struggle against both Nighthaunt and Slaves to Darkness. Bear in mind that due to the popularity (or lack of) at present of the Sons of Behemat, there isn’t much in the way of pairings data.

Close

As always, you’ll probably (and quite rightly) disagree with me on a lot of these points. Why not let us know I’m the comments below what you think to the Sons of Behemat.
