Faction Stats: Kruleboyz (Nov ’24)

It’s time for the best faction in the best Grand Alliance… Kruleboyz.

Battle Formation

Most players, including myself, are using the Light Finga battle formation, which allows them to use the Sneaky Sneakin’ ability twice per turn instead of once. It does require some skill to get the most of, and I know that I haven’t managed that yet.

Kruleboyz Klaw (Units are hidden if near terrain) is having more success, as is Middul Finga (extra 3″ missile range on Man-skewers and Killbow). The later often meaning you’re either forcing your opponent to deploy deeper than they’d like or you’re able to start plinking wounds off from turn 1.

Artefacts

The Swamp Staff is by far the most popular, as it will allow the Swampcalla Shaman to add 1 to their power level and, in turn, be more reliable for casting manifestations.

With only a little data on the other two artefacts, we can’t really draw too many conclusions from them.

Heroic Traits

Slippery Skumbag is by far the most popular trait, allowing the unit to retreat from combat on a 3+  without suffering mortal wounds. Great for getting your attacks in and then getting out of there before your opponent attacks back. (Edit 21/11/24: That is not how Sippery Skumbag works, and thanks for those that pointed this out!)

Egomaniak (Ward of 4+ passing damage off to a nearby unit) is also seeing some play.

While Backstabba isn’t seeing any play in the tournament data we hold. This is possibly because it is entirely situational, whereas you can see a larger benefit from Slippery Skumbag.

Manifestations

As always, we’re seeing Morbid Conjuration being one of the most popular manifestations, and those players who are running it have good success at an average win rate of 59%.  A lot of players also use the Krondspine, including me. Personally this was more of a narrative reason than anything else, as it felt more Destructiony…..

Warscrolls

There’s clearly a list of the most popular units. With the Killaboss on Corpse-rippa Vulcha being very popular for having the Slippery Skumbag trait. Monsta-killaz are one of the best units available to Kruleboyz, and most players will be running these in their lists.

The old chaff units of Hobgrots aren’t worth it anymore, as even the Gutrippaz are better at this role, as explained in this great article by Plastic Craic, and if you want a greater overview then Faction Reviews like this from Plastic Craic or our own by Noel Fundora are a good place to start.

Performance v Other Factions

Luckily, Kruleboyz has a lot of success against Slaves to Darkness, one of the most popular armies, and this will go some way to pulling up their general win rates. The mortal wounds output is great for taking down units like those pesky Varanguard. Plus, being able to teleport away from them isn’t too shabby either.

However, they really do suffer badly against Nighthaunt (as most do…) and Lumineth Realm-lords.

Close

As always, you’ll probably (and quite rightly) disagree with me on a lot of these points. Why not let us know I’m the comments below what you think to the Kruleboyz.

  1. Slippery Skumbag doesn’t work that way. Combat phase abilities are used before any fight abilities are used.
