Hobby Update – Monstrous Worms for Silver Bayonet

5 Monstrous Worms for Silver Bayonet

Two hobby articles in two weeks. If I’m not careful we’ll put our friends at PlasticCraic to shame. But… best not celebrate until I have more than two of these under my belt. This week I have painted some worms… big scary worms definitely perfect for a fantasy setting… or perhaps even gothic.

Silver Bayonet

This is my second week of painting models for Silver Bayonet and I am enjoying the freedom of just painting monsters which are simple and allow a (very) limited pallet of colours… plus lots of drybrushing.

Blacklist Miniatures

Blacklist have run a few kickstarters over the years to bring miniatures to RPG / miniature groups. Like the wolves and werewolves last week, these worms were from their ‘Fantasy Series 1’ that was launched in April 2020, with a planned delivery of December that year… somewhat optimistically … I got mine a year late in December 2021 but I always expect miniature kickstarters to go late – especially ones that use stretch goals to add more toys.

These worms are mono-pose so I decided to paint them in 3 bold colours (red, blue & yellow) so have a little difference and also check out which of my paints hadn’t survived the house move… fortunately most look okay and I can still remember how to paint red & blue… I do like the yellow here though. As ever, the recipe is at the end of the article.

How do they play?

And… I still don’t know yet… as per Peter I am just starting out on my journey into Silver Bayonet. I am intending to use these as ‘generic’ monsters who don’t have muskets so they can fit a number of roles within Silver Bayonet. Their different colours could allow me to design a scenario where they act slightly differently too… nothing too complex but the red one could head towards a ruined church, and the blue ones towards a swamp (for example)!

Paints Used

These are very simply done with 2 colours per worm (plus the Rakarth Flesh and grey for the bases). As I am just getting back into painting, I wanted a scheme that was easy… but that stood out as well. These guys are not hiding, whatever swamp they are slivering through.

Buying a Box

As I said last week with my wolves update, it is not easy, but there appears to be stock in some online gaming stores, and there was a retail pledge so maybe your FGLS has some hidden away that they’re looking to sell.

Hobby Update – Wolves for Silver Bayonet

5 Werewolves and 7 wolves for Silver Bayonet

And… breathe…! I’m back with some more hobby. It’s been a difficult year so far for actually getting paint on toys but that is what happens when you move house. And that is finally over – bar the boxes, and the inevitable putting stuff on Ebay (or equivalent), so I managed to get paint on some toys.

Silver Bayonet

If you’ve read Peter’s article on Silver Bayonet you will know what it is, but if you don’t it is a skirmish game with (often) game controlled monster in between two units (played by the players). As it is gothic horror, a common enemy is wolves… and a less common one werewolves (who I don’t really want to meet).

Like Peter I have just started reading the rules, and making my unit but before painting anything complex, I decided to go for drybrushing… grey… so wolves.

Blacklist Miniatures

Blacklist have run a few kickstarters over the years to bring miniatures to RPG / miniature groups. The wolves and werewolves (mostly) come from the first fantasy themed kickstarter ‘Fantasy Series’. Unfortunately Blacklist don’t sell the sets after they are released, but you can still find some of the sets around if you google them! They also appear to have hit a few snafus with Fantasy Series 2 (which I didn’t back), but hopefully they will get these resolved.

The other two wolves are from Reaper Miniatures (the larger of the two)… and I can’t remember where the second one is from … I think another kickstarter I did with animals… or possible Blacklist Miniatures as well.

5 Werewolves from Blacklist miniatures… one has already had a run in with some Napoleonic fighters and lost an arm!

How do they play?

I don’t know yet… as per Peter I am just starting out on my journey into Silver Bayonet. They are not designed to kill entire units of player controlled men & women but the werewolves do look scary and will definitely need to be hit with silver bullets and weapons before they die.

Paints Used

Lots of drybrushing on these chaps… so a limited colour pallet… which is no bad thing.

Buying a Box

As above, it is not easy, but there appears to be stock in some online gaming stores, and there was a retail pledge so maybe your FGLS has some hidden away that they’re looking to sell.
