Faction Stats: Ironjawz (Nov ’24)

Continuing the series with Destruction, we’ve got the boys in yellow, Ironjawz.

Battle Formation

Much like the other Destruction factions we’ve looked at so far, it doesn’t make for pleasant reading! The most popular Battle Formation is the Ironjawz Brawl which allows friendly non-hero Ironjawz units, that roll 8 or more on their charge rolls, to add 1 to their Attacks characteristic of their melee weapons for the rest of the turn. Weirdfist is reasonably popular (Ward save of 6+ for Ironjawz infantry units wholly within 12″ of any friendly Ironjawz Wizards or Priests), but a little more situational, and not a huge benefit compared to the +1 attack.

Artefacts

Trophy Skulls is by far the most popular artefact (adds 10 to the bearer’s control score). But Amberbone Whetstone (Add 1 to the Rend characteristic of a bearer’s weapon) is also seeing some play. Armour of Gork, which gives a 6+ Ward, is no where near as popular as the other choices but does appear to be in some well performing lists at present.

Heroic Traits

Only two of the three heroic traits are seeing any play, and An’ Eye for Da Fight (allowing a friendly Ironjawz unit wholly within 12″ of the bearer to redeploy a minimum distance of 4″) is the most popular. Mega Bossy (If the bearer charged this turn add 1 to the charge rolls for friendly Ironjawz units while they are wholly within 18″ for the rest of the turn) has seen no uptake in competitive GT events.

Manifestations

The Krondspine Incarnate is the most popular manifestation, possibly more for narrative reasons than anything else. But Morbid Conjuration is rearing its ugly head again, and is proving to be fairly effective for players in Ironjawz lists as well.

Warscrolls

Most players are including a Weirdnob Shaman to take advantage of Manifestations, and they’re usually accompanied by some Brutes, a Warchanter or two, some Brute Ragerz, Ardboyz and Gore-gruntas.

Performance v Other Factions

Unfortunately for Ironjawz, they struggle against the two most popular armies of Slaves to Darkness and Stormcast Eternals. But they do seem to perform well against Skaven and Seraphon. Let’s not talk about Lumineth

Close

As always, you’ll probably (and quite rightly) disagree with me on a lot of these points. Why not let us know I’m the comments below what you think to the Ironjawz.
