Faction Stats: Ogor Mawtribes (Nov ’24)

I was asked on our Discord server when we would next be doing the faction breakdowns. What better time than the present?

We’re starting with all the Destruction factions and then will move on to Order before finishing up with Chaos and Death.

So, first up, Ogors. With only 38% win rate in our latest stats, what’s making them so bad?

The Data

All of the data for this analysis has been taken from 2,000 point GTs hosted on Best Coast Pairings, Stats & Ladders, and Ecksen since the most recent Battlescroll dropped in September. These do not include mirror matches.

Battle Formations

Despite having access to five battle formations (if you include The Roving Maw), at tournaments play, we’re only seeing two being used, with the majority of those choosing Prophets of the Gulping God, but despite this, the battle formation still only has a 35% win rate. Listen, guys, manifestations aren’t the be-all and end-all…..  at this point, anyone who comes against an Ogors list will be expecting the same thing each time, which we’ll go into a little later.

Artefacts

The stats here are purely a reflection of the poor battle formation performance rather than anything more indicative. With the dominance of Nighthaunt since the release of the 4th edition, I can understand why peeps are choosing the Fang of Ghur to turn off Ward saves. But that isn’t the only aspect of what makes Nighthaunt good,  and if you don’t run into a Nighthaunt or Nurgle army, let’s say, then it’s a pretty useless artefact.

Heroic Traits

Most are going for Touched by the Everwinter, allowing them to either make a model a Priest (1) or give an existing Priest the chance to re-roll chanting rolls of 1, and why not? The win % in this case is a pure reflection of the faction rate and not a reflection on the ability.

Manifestations

Morbid Conjuration continues to be one of the most popular manifestations across all the factions, and it’s no exception here. In fact, for players who have taken it, it’s given them a performance better than the 38% average for Ogor Players.

Warscrolls

We can clearly see that most players are running with the Butcher, Slaughtermaster, Gluttons, and Ironguts combinations. Although the Beastclaw Raiders units are high on this chart, it only comes from 10 games and perhaps two players managing a 3-2, so be wary of drawing any conclusions from that data. That being said, it would appear that people are scared of experimenting with the Ogors.

Performance Against Other Factions

Some of these pairings don’t have a vast amount of data behind them, so remember to do some research into the faction before you face them on the table. Remember how everyone is taking The Fang of Ghur to turn off the ward saves? Nighthaunt has only met Ogors 15 times on the table.
