Hachette are at it again… and this time with Warhammer 40k Combat Patrols.
For those who don’t know this is a weekly magazine release which includes models from Games Workshop’s various ranges within Warhammer 40k. If you buy all the magazines you will end up with a collection like this:

Wow… that’s a lot of toys!
I have in the past bought copies of magazines from Hachette, but in the past they have used the box games as the main models and I already have them… this has a good selection of toys, though so I have subscribed and hope to keep you all updated on my progress in collecting all the above.
Issue 1
Issue 1 is now out and available in some stores — although likely easier to get from Hachette directly; and is available at only £2.99 — a bargain if you can pick one up as it includes a Terminator Captain and Tyranid Prime.

Complete with a playmat and a poster, the first issue explains some of the background to the two models supplied including a few suggested names for the models – which is a nice touch.

And if you subscribe, you get a few extra bonuses as well throughout the subscription:

The clippers are good, but I still can’t get the hang of the small mould line remover and I will continue to use that for most of the models!
Issue 1 – Progress

I’ve assembled the Terminator Captain who I’ll paint in Blood Angel scheme (see below)… and he has an enemy to fight!

Keeping Up with the releases
It is fair to say that there are a lot of releases in the 81 magazines expected, but I am keen to keep on top of the new models as they arrive. With that aim in mind, I am setting myself a few rules to try to keep up with the releases.
- I will paint most of the models in the scheme suggested in the magazine
- Space Marines will be painted as Blood Angels
- Imperial Guard will be painted as Baal PDF (red and white/pale)
- Models will be painted to ‘gaming standard’… I’m not looking for Golden Daemon standard here
- I will be using spray paint, but not an air-brush
- I may use shades etc… without instruction in order to get the models to ‘gaming standard’
No doubt, I’ll be adding some more rules as I go to help me get the painting done.
For now, that is Issue 1 opened and some models assembled!
