This is the top three Old World lists the Richmond Open that took place in the USA on the 4th and 5th of May. It saw 40 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament.

Isn’t the Tomb King on Necrolith Dragon + Armour of the Ages a combo already covered (and broken) by the FAQ? This event was played in May almost a month after and people are still running that combo?
The BRB already states on p.204:
“When this model makes an Armour Save roll, it may use either the mount or the character’s armour value, whichever is better.”
If you give a Tomb King, who starts with Heavy Armour, Armour of the Ages he then replaces his 5+ with a 6+. Even with a shield you are not able to choose to use his armour value yet, and must go looking for at least one more +1 to his armour before you can do so; +2 without the shield, obviously. That may not have had much in the way of consequences before besides forcing you to use the mount’s armour save but with the FAQ that changes. Page 6 of the FAQ states:
“Q: A character mounted on a ridden monster or a chariot
can choose to use their own or their mount’s armour value,
whichever is better. If the character wears magic armour but I
choose to use the mount’s armour value, can I still claim other
benefits conferred by the magic armour?
A: No. You must use a magic item fully or not at all”
If you are running a Tomb King with a 6+ armour conferred by Armour of the Ages, and nothing else, you cannot choose to use his armour save and thus cannot use the special rule from Armour of the Ages either.
By the same token you also cannot utilize a Warding Splint on a Liche riding a Necrolith Dragon either. At no point will you benefit from the 5++ save if you can’t beat the 4+ on the Dragon, and the Liche doesn’t have other armour except for his 5+ from the Splint. If you can’t choose to use the magic armour for the purpose of granting you the armour save, you can’t benefit from the other attributes either. The FAQ is abundantly clear on this.
Surely I’ve got something wrong here, or else how is this slipping through on a list that’s playing that deep into the tournament?
