Some of you may be aware that I’ve recently written my own fantasy ruleset for smaller scale games.
It’s aim is to put you in the shoes of what a General experiences, being unable to move all their troops with clockwork precision and not always knowing the full picture.
Part of this has meant taking some glamour shots for the Rulebook. Painting the models and making the scenery has possibly been the most fun I’ve had with wargaming for a long time. For those put off painting a smaller scale, thinking its too small or hard I would urge you to have a go.
There’s no shading, highlighting or detailing, mostly its just patches of colour which come together once you take the 3 foot rule in.
This is one of the shots I did for the rulebook. Aimed at recreating the GW battle scenes you sometimes get in their books. Here we’ve got some Human Halberdiers facing off against some Dwarf Warriors. Both sets of miniatures are sculpted by Forest Dragon Minatures. I bought these prints from Excellent Minitures.
Here I painted up a load of Orcs from Wargames Atlantic (Also, a box of their 10mm minis at £35 basically gives you enough for a small army in the Fantasy ruleset I’ve written).
In this one we’ve my Forest Dragon miniature Dwarfs on the right facing off against the Wargames Atlantic Orcs on the left.
All of these photos have been edited slightly in Canva, with the last one having a rain effect added over the top and the first two having scenic backgrounds inserted behind.
I’ll post some further updates soon, with perhaps some painting guides for the miniatures and instructions on how to make the smaller scale woods.
