The Old World 6 Nations – The Continental Duel (Italy vs France)

The Old World Six Nations banner for 2026

From the sun-drenched plains of Tilea to the grand courts of Bretonnia, France and Italy bring a flair for the dramatic to the 6 Nations stage. This rivalry is a masterclass in tactical diversity. No faction can be taken more than once per team, so these two nations will showcase the full breadth of the forces of the Old World.

The Old World 6 Nations is a showcase of the very best the hobby has to offer. Here’s an insight into France and Italy, two of the fantastic teams attending.

Before I jump into the details, I wanted to remind everyone of our friendly Discord server where you can join in the conversation with the Woehammer crew and suggest articles or series for the website.

Team Roles

Teams are made up of 8 players, with the potential for 2 additional coaches.

The Captain and Vice-Captain are responsible for the team, they do the drafting which sets who plays who, make decisions on behalf of their players and generally put in a lot of legwork for getting a team together.

Coaches are there to make sure that the team has everything they need to achieve victory. “How are the other games looking?”, “What do I need to do here?”, “Can you grab me a drink? I’m more dehydrated than Settra right now.” Coaches are not always on-call, and each game needs to make the best use of their limited coaching time.

Players, are, obviously, the foundation of the team! They roll the dice, they pick up the points. A band together, win or lose. Within a team, Attackers play more aggressive armies who have a better choice of matchups. Others will be Defenders, who have to achieve the best result possible in the face of adversity.

As a reminder, aach team is looking to achieve the biggest cumulative score, meaning that every role has a big impact.

The Teams!

Team Italy

Who are you? What nation are you representing and what’s your role in that team?

Hi I’m Michele, and I am Italy Captain

How did you first get into Warhammer: The Old World? What do you like about it?

I’ve played since the release of the game. It is really a good incarnation of the old Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

What motivated you to play in a team and represent your nation?

Teams is the best way to play warhammer with your friends and also a wonderful way to travel and meet new friends! It’s all about this.

What are you hoping to achieve at 6 nations?

We hope to stand higher than Italy in the last Old World 6 Nations, where we lost out to England.

If you had to invite 3 people connected to Warhammer Fantasy in any way to dinner, who would you ask?

Alessio Cavatore, who played a major role in design for Fantasy, 40k and Lord of the Rings.
John Blanche, who really defined the art of Fantasy and 40k.
Tuomas Pirinen, who was responsible for my favourite old edition (6th) and Mordheim!

Team France

Who are you? What nation are you representing and what’s your role in that team?

Nic Bouchet, Captain of Team France.

How did you first get into Warhammer: The Old World? What do you like about it?

I started with Lord of the Rings in the mid 2000s and then migrated to Warhammer Fantasy Battles with a friend and started collecting a wood elves army. I played 2 or 3 games until my friend decided he no longer wanted to play and so I put the game on hold. When I graduated from uni, I walked into a Warhammer store, and my childhood game was gone! I stayed connected to Warhammer via the Total War franchise, and as soon as Old World was announced, I knew I would get back to the square bases.

As a person with ADHD, I love being involved in hobbies that fully capture my attention, in which I am going to be living the moment, and Warhammer feels that space for me, whether it’s through painting, list-building, or actually playing on the tabletop. Obviously, it wouldn’t be the same without all the awesome people involved in our community and that I’ve met, at the local, national, and international level. I think we are really lucky to have each other.

What motivated you to play in a team and represent your nation?

I watched interviews of the Belgian team on a French youtube channel after they played at the World Team Championship at the end of 2024. I had never played team Warhammer but it thought it sounded awesome!

A fun fact that few people know is that at the start of 2025, I first applied to join team England (I’ve lived in London for the last 10 years) but didn’t make the cut (I’m still waiting for my rejection letter guys…). I didn’t let it deter me, and I heard that there was going to be a French qualifiers tournament, so I joined a team, and after a few weeks I became the Captain. Then the other teams who had signed up for the qualifiers pulled out, and only ours remained. Together, we played in the Online WTC open, and in Melle at the World Team Championship: Clash of Nations last September. We had an awesome time growing together and getting to know the international community.

This year there was more interest in France for WTC, and so 4 other French teams joined the qualifiers. After two days of gaming, ours took the prize.

We can’t wait to see how much we can build and improve on our past results.

What are you hoping to achieve at Old World 6 nations?

We’ll be following the rugby schedule, which means that we’ll play England in round 5. The dream would obviously be to win that round to complete the grand slam!

If you had to invite 3 people connected to Warhammer Fantasy in any way to dinner, who would you ask?

To be honest the community is small enough that its various higher profile players and influencers remain very approachable, and I reckon that if I’m in their neck of the woods I could just drop them a message and we’d hang out!

So I guess I’d choose the game and rules designers. I’d make them sit down, read, and answer all of the community faq questions. We’d finally know how to play the game properly!
