The world that was has returned, and with it, a hunger for grand-scale competition that spans borders. Hosted at Common Ground Games in the shadow of Stirling’s historic landmarks, The Old World 6 Nations represents a milestone for the growing international tournament scene. This tournament honours the tradition in international cooperation and friendly competition these nations share.
The Old World 6 Nations is a showcase of the very best the hobby has to offer. Here’s an insight into Wales and Ireland, two of the fantastic teams attending.
Before I jump into the details, I wanted to remind everyone of our friendly Discord server where you can join in the conversation with the Woehammer crew and suggest articles or series for the website.

The Team Format
As the Old World winds whistle through the mountains of Wales and across the Emerald Isle, two nations prepare for a clash rooted in history and hobby.
Just as their rugby counterparts battle for dominance on the pitch, the 8-person teams from Wales and Ireland are looking to settle scores on the tabletop. This isn’t just about individual glory; it’s about the collective strength of the team. How will they navigate the strategic depth of the pairing system that defines the 6 Nations (and team event) experience?
Each player within a team must field a different army, and the magic of drafting means each captain tries to pit the optimal choice from amongst their team’s armies against the opponents armies. This means that before armies are even at a table, there is intrigue and excitement about pairings.
Each team is looking to achieve the biggest cumulative score, meaning that every point (even in a loss) can have a big impact.
The Teams!
Team Wales
Who are you? What nation are you representing and what’s your role in that team?
Owen Williams, Team Wales, Vice Captain
How did you first get into Warhammer: The Old World? What do you like about it?
I enjoyed Warhammer Fantasy but hadn’t played it in many years so was excited for the update. I’ve been playing it since launch. Glad my empire have had the chance to see the light of day again!
What motivated you to play in a team and represent your nation?
Teams Warhammer adds new dynamics and opportunities to the game you aren’t going to get from regular play. What better way to experience it than with a group of friends representing your country?
What are you hoping to achieve at 6 nations?
Wales is a small nation and at 6 nations we’re happy to have a load of new faces this year. It’s a great opportunity for us to bond as a team, get some good teams experience… As well as an excuse for a weekend away with the lads!
If you had to invite 3 people connected to Warhammer Fantasy in any way to dinner, who would you ask?
There’s some great choices out there but I’d love to chat over dinner with John Blanche and his influence on the world and art direction.
The late Alan Bligh and his contributions to Warhammer as a whole as well as my personal favorite Fantasy book, Tamurkhan.
… In lore characters is a good question, those of you who know me from 8th would expect Elspeth or Karl Franz, but I’ll be honest Queek would make for an interesting dinner guest!

Team Éire
Who are you? What nation are you representing and what’s your role in that team?
I’m Paddy, captain of team Ireland. My role is mainly delegation and taking all the credit for the hard work our team has put in.
How did you first get into Warhammer: The Old World? What do you like about it?
Like most of us, I was incredibly excited to get back into square bases. I had previously played 6th and 7th edition but fell out of the hobby in my late teens, when 8th was released. The addiction came straight back after all them years and here I am 4 armies later.
I love the Old World for the rules, the community and the look of real armies on the tabletop. Plus dragons.
Since it’s release we have started an Old World club based out of Dublin called the Pale Wargamers and have grown into a community of over 100 members, we meet twice a month and are currently running a slow grow Battle March campaign. It’s been great to see new people getting into the game two years in, even players who haven’t played previous editions.
What motivated you to play in a team and represent your nation?
We have a great team of players from the North and South of Ireland so any excuse to spend two days playing toy soldiers and drinking beers with a great bunch of lads. Who wouldn’t want to be involved?
What are you hoping to achieve at 6 nations?
To get some great games in. Also beating the English.
If you had to invite 3 people connected to Warhammer Fantasy in any way to dinner, who would you ask?
Greasus Goldtooth to pay for dinner.
Josef Bugman to bring the pints.
Dan, one of the founders of our club, who moved back to England because he was tired of getting beaten, so I could slag him face to face again.
