Danny Wadeson: First off, let me congratulate Solomon Morrow, not just on 1st place but also on actually kinda having a vampire esque name. Love to see it.
The list is Legion of Night, known primarily for its teleporting, Morbheg Claw wizards who can zip in, nuke a fool with Blizzard (and this one knows all the spells thanks to Shaman of the Chilld Lands) and then TP back out in the opponent’s hero phase – sneaky!
It’s also got Mannfred, who has multiple shenanigans and doesn’t see enough play in his own faction, along with your usual smattering of MSU deadwalkers, the usual VloZD and Graveguard brick, who’re a little more appropriately costed these days but still a fantastic hammer.
Assuming you’ve heard of Soulblight before, there’s not much else to comment on here other than it being quite interesting to see msu zombies. But it has Mannfred in, so I’m happy – I’d love to know how many times he counter-charged with fight first to disrupt the opponent’s plans!

Kieran Bailey: Just as I settle in to write the words, “now Tzeentch can use the spell Rupture to make the Incarnate go wild” I look down the rest of the list and realise that there isn’t actually a Krondspine! Atta boy, David!
So what do we actually have. Well, there’s the Guild of Summoners with their easy to score ‘Call for Change’ Battle Tactic (Summon a Lord of Change) that means that the Tzeentch player had an excellent chance of scoring 10 points for Battle Tactics and 3 points for the Grand Strategy, which is an excellent start to any game.
Leading this force there is the still very good Kairos, though overpriced – 25 points more than Kroak? Come on GW?! Along with the Eternal Shroud allowing Fate Dice to come back, Kairos’ one per turn means there should be plenty of ways to tip the odds in his favour.
One place where those odds being tipped could be handy is when sending in the Enlightened on Disc. If you can guarantee a charge and buff up the flying bird-goats with Hoarfrost then they will be able to do a truly epic amount of damage, particularly if their target’s save is reduced by one with the Arcane Sacrifice spell. The Enlightened also prevent command abilities being used in the fight phase, so could be fighting at effectively rend -4.
Another piece of tech that has become more powerful with the change to Cogs is the Tome of Eyes as this gives you the re-rolls back, though only on one caster – probably Kairos. It’s also not a predatory spell, so can get around limitations on casting those.
The only blemish on David’s path to 4-1 was a Khorne matchup that is very difficult for any magic heavy army and, in fact, most armies at the moment. Congrats on an excellent result, David – may many more come in future!

“Hi List Enthusiast,
Post event it was identified that Gotrek was not eligible to be placed in the GHB23 Wizard Finders battalion due to being unique. This unique ruling has unfortunately has been missed by us TOs, the public when all lists were unlocked, and the five 5 opponents over the weekend. It was not raised as a complaint until post-event.
I’ve reviewed the list in full and it does have both the right units to interchange that makes this list legal, and it’s impacts were minimum at best when you review his opponent match ups and kill list. Game 4 was IDK and Game 5 against OBR which did not impact his most critical games. Gotrek’s kill list over the event was Avalanor, 10 Stoneguard, 20 Deathrattle Skeletons, Incarnate of Ghur, Arkhelian Allopex, and 6 Immortis Guard.
Reviewing 120 lists is no easy feat, and based on all the information above, we will keep the victories as it stands. It’s a shame we didn’t catch it earlier and we will review how we can improve our processes including an extension from the current list submission window to allow additional time for TO & peer review.

Walter Brock: Today we are looking at a tough cookie of a list. Running Petrifex Elite instead of the common Null Myriad we are used to seeing this season lately. This sub faction will allow the already tough units to be even harder to take out.
Spell casting savant works well with the Immortis guard. Making it very difficult to Deny the OBR grand strat.
Katakros alongside with Petrifex turns the toughness up to 11. Giving everything +1 to save and reducing enemy wound rolls by 1 in melee makes it very hard for things to go down.
The Boneshaper helps reinforce the hard to kill aspect of this list. Artisans key bringing back stalkers and Immortis guard is very efficient. That already nearly impossible to kill model just came back. Diversionary tactics reducing enemy charges by 3 within 12 can cause some charges to fail, deny battle tactics and make things difficult for the opponent all together. Reinforce constructs helps provide some protection from mortal wounds. One of the few sources of damage that can take out these tough units reliably.
The Ossifector is mostly here to buff the Morghasts. The primary buff going on them will be the +1 rend. A strong support piece to keep things going.
6 Immortis Guard are seen a lot. That’s because they are very good at what they do, not dying and bodyguarding your characters that are reviving the Immortis guard. With a once per game fight twice Immortis Guard have very respectable damage.
Deathriders are the Heros of Bonereaper lists. These can do pretty much anything. From screening to doing a simple battle tactic. This player opted for a single unit of Deathriders to open the battle tactic option mostly. The real meat and potatoes of the list is in the tough elite infantry and Morghasts.
A unit of 3 stalkers is interesting. A small, fast unit that can take out key targets or run around harassing the opponents’ sides. They aren’t as survivable as Immortis guard but gain speed and hit harder in return. A very strong unit for any situation.
lastly is the two Morghast units. Archai get a 5+ ward while wholly within 12 of a hero and Harbingers get the option to deep strike from off the board. Putting both units in adds for some powerful tactical flexibility. Both units when they roll and 8 or higher on the charge get fight first. Letting the list pile on more damage before the main threat of a unit has even attacked. The main strength of these guys is their ability to turn off commands within 3. This ability can throw a wrench in an opponent’s plan and help swing things in favor for the Bone Reapers play.
All this fits into a Battle regiment. A powerful list that is incredibly hard to kill the models, and lots of tactical flexibility. Well done to this player.

Aaron Newbom: An interesting monster mash style list revolving around a souped up mawkrusha and pigs with Gobbsprakk shutting down magic.
I’m gonna be honest I normally see a mawkrusha in big waaagh and assume the pilot doesn’t really know BW well. But this man clearly does with a 5-0 and a tough run of it too.
In many ways this is a list that takes bloodtoofs and subtracts some offense, mobility, and tempo in exchange for flexibility and consistency.
With the meta as it is, the burst damage of bloodtoofs doesn’t break a Soulblight armies back, and this list has to control and late game power to finish the job

Danny Wadeson: Shambling forward, often standing stubbornly in the way, groaning all the while and liable to keep coming back – no, it’s not me trying to bird-watch while hungover, it’s shit tonnes of Zombies! Competitive Soulblight players just can’t help themselves can they – this is why we can’t have nice things! Or, we can have them, they’ll just cost more very soon…
Basically, if you’re not already aware, Zombie in Vyrkos are bloody annoying to shift. And Vyrkos allows for a once per game heroic action to summon 10 Direwolves too – so we’re talking about a WHOLE lot of bodies on circles here. While supported by double corpse carts, 6s to wound do mortals – that’s likely on top of a bunch more you get each time a zombie you kill rolls a 5+.
Gorslav seals the deal as the premier zombie-buffer, helping them shuffle that bit faster with Spoor Trackers and with the Phylactery to project an aura of 5+++, making them truly frustrating to chew through.
Lauka Vai makes an appearance as a cheeky source of -1 to rend, acting as a cost effective monster and possibly making a 6″ pile in too, to compound the misery of having to run head long into all those grabby hands.
Zombies gonna get nerfed soon, somehow – let’s hope the next Battlescroll doesn’t put them in the ground for good…

Roland Rivera: In 4th place, we have an interesting little Khorne list that is built around the solid brick that is a 6-man unit of Mighty Skullcrushers. 30 Wounds with a 2+ save is a very tough nut for an army that does not have plentiful access to mortal wounds to crack, especially if there’s a Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury nearby to slap -1 to hit on its attackers. While those two pieces anchor down the middle, this list can play some classic hammer & anvil games with the 10-man unit of Skullcrushers, or buy time for the plethora of minimum-sized units in the list to sit on objectives and rack up VPs.
The Hero mix to support this strategy is a Slaughterpriest for more prayers, a Bloodsecrator for a 1/game offensive buff and stronger Rallies for your Bloodbound pieces, and Skarr Bloodwrath as a reusable blocker/source of Blood Tithe. There is also a unit of Wrathmongers to grant extra attacks to any Khorne unit near them. Interestingly, Albin has chosen to g with the Bleeding Icon to shut off Battleshock over the Hexgorger Skulls to further disrupt magic armies, which reinforces the notion that this list wants to play aggressively. This notion is confirmed by the choice of subfaction, which rewards high charge rolls with strike-first.
All in all, this seems like a fun list that forces the issue and make the opponent play reactively to deal with your objective pressure while potentially setting them up for hard counterpunches from its reinforced blobs. Fun and effective – what’s not to like?

This is the top three AoS lists the Nashcon Age of Sigmar GT 2023 that took place in the US on the 19th and 20th of August. It involved 104 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament. This is a two list tournament, players choose which one to run at the table.
Before I jump into the Top Three AoS Lists, I wanted to remind everyone of our friendly Discord server where you can join in the conversation with the Woehammer crew and suggest articles or series for the website.

Roland Rivera: Despite this tournament being in a 2-list format, our winner seems to has thumbed his nose at that notion, as both of his lists are exactly the same! He has gone for the Hero-heavy Khorne approach which seems to be gaining momentum of late, as he has maxed out his Hero selections.
The list is anchored by Skarbrand and the Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury, which are a vital source of mobility in the form of 3D6″ charges (Skarbrand for himself, the Unfettered Fury Thirster for anyone) and doing most of the damage. The list also packs several Priests (including the Unfettered Fury Thirster itself) to help power out whatever Prayer or Invocation is the most useful at the moment (and this list has a pretty deep selection). An interesting addition is Theddra Skull-Scryer as an Ally (likely for Andtorian Locus-centered Battle Tactics). Skarr Bloodwrath rounds out the Hero lineup as a cheap, recurring space blocker that can also double as a source of Blood Tithe.
These Heroes have some troop support in the form of a blob of Bloodletters and Magore’s Fiends, but they will mostly be asked to do the heavy lifting in combat, on both offense and defense. Overall, this style of Khorne list seems to be gaining momentum this season, so don’t be surprised if you see similar lists going forward.
