Carson Whitlock: Interesting Starborne list as a result of the new battlescroll. Here we see Arcane Might being brought over Lord of Celestial resonance, which will allow the Slann to control all 3 of the endless spells in this list at once (at doubled range for extra threat projection). No heavy skink presence in a Fangs of Sotek list, however, which makes the extra redeploys quite expensive if spent on those saurus. Speaking of, we see a massive block of 20 saurus warriors used to gum up objectives for primary scoring/denying. The Slann is also armed with the spacefolder’s stave, presumably to give a more reliable charge to any Raptadon Chargers that are summoned in. Not having Lord of Celestial Resonance (which makes sense with the recent nerf) will certainly affect the amount of chargers this list will be able to summon in, but clearly not enough to prevent Jack from smashing through these 5 games! Well done, Jack.

Roland Rivera: It’s a strange new world out there for Nurgle players. With the Sloppity Bilepiper’s pile-in denial shenanigans being taken away in the latest Battlescroll, movement denial and control strategies have taken a huge hit, and the devoted of the Plague God have been forced to retool. Fortunately, the book is deep enough to offer other paths to victory, among them the monster-mash strategy you see in this list.

The aim here is to pair The Glottkin’s Blightkrieg ability with punchy Hero Monsters to maximize its offensive impact. The best among those that Nurgle has access to are the Maggoth Lords, which is why all 3 are in this list. Orghotts in particular stands out as the best dance partner for The Glottkin, but don’t sleep on Morbidex or Bloab, as they are also plenty capable. Aside from that, 3 minimum units of Plaguebearers meet Battleline requirements cheaply, screen well, and occupy objectives while the big guys do the brawling. The list also has a small foot Wizard you can stuff in a corner for a high-percentage Grand Strategy bid.

The Blessed Sons subfaction is honestly not having much of an effect here – but that’s OK – this list is inherently potent enough that it doesn’t really need much help. This list is more aggressive than Nurgle lists we were seeing in the past, but I believe it is just as potent, and this result is an example of that.

Jon Anderson: Greetings, everyone, and welcome back to another Lumineth Realm-lords list review. Hailing from my personal favorite nation of Alumnia, we have Philip Springall standing at the pinnacle as the one above all when it comes to standing on circles. Forgoing the low drop count, Philip has brought the Scinari Enlightener, the mean man himself in the Light of Eltharion as well as the Twins and a few other pieces to enable his battalion choices. The inclusion of  a redundant Protection of Hysh is something I’m personally a big fan of and offensive spells such as Overwhelming Heat ensures that he will have multiple tools at their disposal to counter any threat.

At the heart of this army are the blocks of Vanari Bladelords, which benefit from the Alumnia subfaction ability as well as serving to be the ideal targets for Greater Power of Hysh from the VLR. As reinforced units, they form a stalwart frontline that can weather the fiercest assaults and simultaneously put the beat down on both elite units and hordes alike. Only having one unit of Vanari Dawnriders is not where I’d want to be, but it seems the meta had devloped in a way to support the single inclusion.

During his event, Philip demonstrated his versatility and adaptability, securing victories against two Orruk Warclans, one Sylvaneth Heartwood list, and a Knights of the Empty Throne S2D list. The only round he didn’t win was a draw against the Ossiarch Bonereapers running Null Myriad which really shows the resilience of the Lumineths spell suite and how offensive their defensive spells can be.

With a well-rounded composition and a keen understanding of his armies strengths, Philip proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. His trifecta mastery of: spellcasting, combat, and objective play took him to the podium and I couldn’t be prouder of my fellow Alumnian.

TOTAL POINTS: (2000/2000)

Walter Brock: We’re looking at an OBR list that has done well and changed a bit with the recent balance update to AoS.

Starting out, Null Myriad has changed.  Its ability to stop spells has changed from a 2+ to a 4+.  This significantly reduces the odds of stopping the opponents’ offensive spells.  However, Null Myriad is no longer tied around needing Mortisans and Arkhan.  This opens more list building options for people still wanting to go Null Myriad.

We have the normal Savant on Ossifector setup that we’ve seen several times in the past.  It is a very powerful combo to protect the Grand strat and support the army.

A liege is the first deviation from the old Null lists we would see since Old Null would want to bring two Mortisans to provide their bubbles.  The liege provides much more combat support for your already excellent units.

Katakros with Null Myriad is something we have seen often in the past and will probably continue to see going into the future. While Katakros provides protection and value against most threats.  Null Myriad itself protects against spells. It’s important to note that Katakros does not benefit from Null Myriad due to having the Mortis Praetorians keyword.

From there, we see several common units among OBR lists.  Deathriders provide a powerful battle tactic and can perform several roles depending on what you need them to do.  A Brick of 6 Immortis also provides an easy battle tactic while protecting your grand Strat.  30 Mortek guard are very good at sitting on objectives when backed up by a harvester and the protective buffs the rest of the list provides.

All this fits into a battle regiment to act as a one drop.

Altogether, the list is very well rounded and set up to handle almost anything that will be thrown at it with its defensive buffs and offensive buffs.  Well, done to this player.

Tomasz Mucha: This Khorne build is an MSU style control list. Early in the game it is trying to flood objectives with bodies and run at the opponent forcing multiple combats. Bloodstoker helps with a quick delivery and Skullfiend Tribe (unmodified charge rolls of 8 = strike first) combined with the banner of blood artifact (re-roll charges aura) helps apply the damage before the opponent has a chance to respond. When the opponent eventually responds, it triggers another wave of damage from the Murderous to the Last battle trait and eventually units dying generate Blood Tithe Points for Khorne. This is when the summoning engine kicks in, and the army that just shrinked into very few pieces starts growing again, summoning hordes of daemons (mostly Bloodletters and Flesh Hounds). When the dust settles and the grind is over, Khorne’s ability to pin stuff down and control the late game puts people into tough positions, often denying battle tactics or easily manouvering around the board.

Oskar Jeszke: Skaven after small adjustments with the new battlescroll.. Army that basically cheats on most of the core mechanics by  turning off objectives with skabbik, copying charges, spreading dmg from bells, blocking CP while you can do absurd amounts of dmg from Plague Censer Bearers. Most armies have a really hard time trying to fight you because after being forced to hit bells and having to deal with glass atomic bomb of PCB, opponents usually realize that they can’t score obj and you win

Mariusz Dotka: Nurgle did what Nurgle does best – slow grind with Glottkin in the middle. Despite the nerf of Sloppity, Plaguebearers are still a solid battleline able to withstand a lot of attacks. They would have been even better if not the error in the list – Hoarfrost instead of Fleshy Abundance. Fortunately it was not a game changer as the buffed Beast of Nurgle was able to deal a lot of damage. Beside Glottkin, Bloab was a solid second pick. Miasma of Pestilence is a very good spell with effect that can be triggered in almost every phase. Bloab’s ability for -1 to hit and shoot combined with a roar is a good way to keep him alive. I hesitated a little with the last big hero but in the end I decided to go with Morbidex because of his healing ability. Poxbringer is a good choice for a general (when you choose the right spell he is even better) and fits well for Grand Strategy (Control the Nexus). When everybody was busy with Glottkin and Maggoth Lord’s, he was slowly moving to the table center. Last pick was Gutrot. Thanks to his and Rotmire’s point decrease, they were a solid pick (changed at the last moment from another last Maggoth). They turned out to be a great choice – durable, providing disease points, sniping small heroes or capturing the objectives. As for the summons – best pick for me is still a Beast of Nurgle and in the endgame another Poxbringer if needed. Plaguebearers are good blockers however and Nurglings are good for stealing objectives from small heroes.
In the end, thanks to Grandfather’s blessing, Nurgle is a very durable army, despite being very slow. Glottkin in the middle of the table is a very big threat and with his ability he can block enemy tactics or push forward even the slowest units. I only hoped that other battlelines would decrease in points as well, but Chaos Gods decided differently.

Krzysztof Jezierski: I made this list with the idea of wanting to utilize a newly buffed Fuethán that gave sharks (best freaking unit) exploding unmodified 6 which was recently changed to auto-wounding instead of additional hit, and my dear and beloved Smashking. My variation of Sharknado utilizes Smashking with armour of the Cythai that gives him a huge survivability boost against anything that has effects on 6 as it’s simply denied.  The list plays mostly as a loaded barrel that is waiting for that one opening, either made by an enemy mistake in movement or due to screens dying from endless shooting, and being 2 drops allows me to dictate who goes first most of the time. Turn 1 Idoneth is quite tanky not only by being in army-wide cover thanks to the Tides but also with an additional +1 save from Turtle and the ability to deny shooting if the enemy is over 12 inches away. If he manages to get close enough, he is forced to shoot on the closest Idoneth unit, which is usually my screen that consists of 2×10 reavers who have +2 save and 5+ ward wholly 6″ of the ship. Turn 2 is where almost 80% of the games are decided if I was able to get close enough in turn 1 that my Smashking can unleash his wrath and kill over double or triple his points cost thanks to his command trait Unstoppable Fury that gives him additional 2attack for each enemy unit within 3inches of him (my record was 6 with gave me +15 attack on Polearm 2/2/-3/3). If after all of this, there are some units left in the enemy army turn 3 is usually a clean-up as Idoneth has strike first and the dmg output of sharks is very good, especially with the silent MVP of list Lotann that gives +1 to wound rolls wholly within 12 inches.

Top Three AoS Lists for the War In The Heartlands – Act 3

Advertisements

This is the top three AoS lists for the War In The Heartlands – Act 3 that took place in the UK on the 18th and 19th of November. It saw 100 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament.

With a very large field of players in. a five round competition four players achieved five wins and no losses (5/0/0). I’ve included all of those lists instead of just the top 3.

Before I jump into the Top Three AoS Lists, I wanted to remind everyone of our friendly Discord server where you can join in the conversation with the Woehammer crew and suggest articles or series for the website.

If you like what we’re doing, why not join our Patreon and help keep it going?

Also if there’s a one day or two day tournament you’d like us to cover drop us a comment on this post and we’ll have a look at it for you.

TOTAL POINTS: (1980/2000)

Fresh (for Nurgle!) from being part of England’s victorious 6 Nations team, Max brought his beautifully painted and very pus-filled army to take out War in the Heartlands. And what a difference a few points changes make! The Garden of Nurgle has gone through a bit of a feculent regrowth recently with points drops to a couple of the big chaps and the little chaps, meaning that Max’s list is 80 points cheaper than it would have been before the recent battle scroll update allowing to squeeze even more into the list. In addition, with the double-Gnarlmaw and Befouling Host combo, Max is certainly summoning something in, from a Beast of Nurgle, more Plaguebearers or even a Great Unclean One.

Another great option for Max to bring in is Sloppity Bilepiper who is able to use his Jolly Gutpipes to play such classics as My Love Is Like a Ripe, Ripe Fart that prevents pile-in moves. With the four big Nurgle heroes doing most of the lifting in this list, preventing enemies from getting their maximum number of attacks by piling in while being at their own maximum efficiency is a real force-divider for the opponent.

Of the big boys, Orghotts is probably the most straightforward, but is still an absolute beatstick, with 5 damage 3 and 7 damage 2 attacks with a D6 damage shooting attack thrown in there too. He also comes with a free CP per turn if you want that D6 damage attack to be hitting and wounding on 2s.

Next up is Morbidex Twiceborn, who can bring back Nurgling bases, but what he mainly brings to the party is that at the end of the battleshock phase (so the opponent’s too) he heals half his wounds, rounding up. So get him down to 1 wound in your combat phase to see that go up to 7 wounds, then heal D3 in the opponent’s hero phase followed by a few more at the end of the next battleshock phase. If you can’t kill him in one go, don’t bother, but easier said than done on a 3+ save and 12 wounds on a 5+ ward.

The Great Unclean One is one of the Loci of Fecundity, which means that Nurgle models heal D3 within 14″ of one of these Loci instead of just the 1 wound, helping Morbidex to be the irritant that he is. It also has its own Monstrous Action to do 4 mortals on a 2+ when at top bracket and is no slouch in combat either, especially with all the Nurglings doing a tonne of attacks that can spread disease, which will then proc on a 3+ because of the Witherstave.

The second Locus of Fecundity is The Glottkin on a truly monstrous 27ish wounds, after factoring in the 5+ ward, is a two cast wizard and has one of the coolest named warscroll abilities in Sigmar called Blightkrieg when The Glottkin and another unit can make a charge at the end of the enemy movement phase. Anyone who has faced Khorne knows exactly how powerful this is and being able to give this lump of pustulant flesh any free movement while also stomping something at the other end is fantastic.

Plaguebearers are also in the list and, while they won’t kill much, they are absolutely non-trivial kills themselves as they have 2 wounds, a 5+ ward, can go up to 3 wounds a model with a spell and can return models on a battleshock roll of a 1, which can be enough to tip an objective in Max’s favour…something that I discovered in our Round 5 game, costing me 2 points as the extra Plaguebearer dropped me from Hold 1, Hold 2, Hold More to just Hold 1.

So what did I learn about how the list plays? It is a very tough list and when piloted by someone with Max’s skill expression, a couple of breaks need to go your way to have a shot. There are aspects of a DPS-check army (i.e. can you do enough damage to it before it kills you) that has some similarities with Gargants, but with the extra mechanic of 5+ wards, summoning, the healing and having some really cheap battlelines being able to grab objectives, it’s one of the top armies at the moment. But it was a really fun game and Max is a true gentleman and a worthy winner of the event.

After doing reasonably well with Kruleboyz and Tzeentch, but never cracking that 4-1 wall, I was really chuffed to finally be able to get there at Heartlands in such a great field of opponents. The new Orruk battle tactics have definitely helped Big Waaagh recently and the list is build with these in mind. Sneak Up is a great early or late battle tactics for putting all Kruleboyz units within 3″ of a terrain feature; Dat’s Our Turf Now! just needs two Ironjawz units within 6″ of the centre; the general is a Kruleboyz general, opening up Take Dat You Suckas! for doing 10 wounds and not taking 10 in return; Wait For It, Ladz just needs 30 Waaagh points. If you can do all of these very doable tactics and then get one more from the GHB, often Intimidate the Invaders or Magical Dominance, then you practically have to be tabled not to score 5 battle tactics.

With the general being the Swampcalla to access Take Dat You Suckas!, it made sense to also make him the focus of the Grand Strategy too as the other common option, Waaagh, needs him or a battleline unit to also not only be alive, but in your opponent’s territory too. On a turn-by-turn basis, he’s mostly there to buff the boltboyz, but by putting Merciless Blizzard on him too means that I have a 12″ exclusion zone around him and the Wurrgog has his own 12″ no-go zone too. Speaking of the Wurrgog, he did win me game two by staring off Alarielle the bottom of turn 5, but don’t sleep on his warscroll spell either. It is a ‘roll the number of dice in the unit spell’ but, if cast on a 10+ (and Primals can modify), it does mortals on 4s at 24″ away. That spell took out 18 Blissbarbs of 30 in one hero phase and gives him a bit of extra utility.

Speaking of Primals, I wanted to maximise my number of these so had the Andtorian Acolytes battalion and the Command Ability to get an extra one in my hero phase on a 5+. While sometimes these missed, there were several hero phases when I had 5 Primal Dice ready to go, either for my own casting or for Gobsprakk to do his thing and cause D6 mortals to wizards. Though he didn’t actually take out any wizards at this event, the threat was always there and, with the number of Primal Dice I often had, many opponents just skipped casting magic.

Other honourable mentions go to the Megaboss on Foot with the Destroyer artifact, who has the fight-on-death ability to make him a real thorn in any opponent’s side for the bargain price of 140pts. It allows you to attack elsewhere first, knowing that the Megaboss will definitely get to attack and, if the Megaboss somehow survives, then, unless your opponent shoots him off or kills him with magic (but see Gobsprakk above), he’s going to get to hit again. The other big winner from this list is the point when you hit 20 Waaagh points and have +1 to hit and +1 to wound. Having this on your whole army is spectacularly good, making the output really consistent AND allowing you to use CP for All Out Defense while not reducing the damage.

All my opponents were absolutely fantastic to play, with nailbiting moments in every game and Mark and Liam run a fantastic event with Cameos this year from the Cookie Monster, Admiral Adama and Hodor encouraging us to hold the objectives! If you get a chance, grab a ticket and I’ll hopefully see you next year!

Roland Rivera: The Glottkin continues his relentless march over the Mortal Realms, as this is yet another podium result for Nurgle’s favorite triplets in the Befouling Host subfaction for an extra jolt of summoning power. This list has a deep lineup of dance partners for the Glottkin – if you’re looking to lock something down, send in some Plaguebearers within the Sloppity Bilepiper aura to make them unable to pile in. If you’re looking to take them out, send in one of the Maggoth Lords and start swinging.

Another great perk to Befouling Host is getting Beasts of Nurgle as Battleline. These guys fill out your Battleline on the cheap, and also make for an efficient screen/disruption piece. This list also doubles down on the cheap disruption department with the inclusion of a unit of Nurglings, which help you generate contagion points and force your opponent to screen them out.

While many players are doubtless aware of this list’s gameplan by now, knowing is only half the battle, and stopping these servants of the Plague God from owning the middle of the board is easier said than done.

Kieren Coates: The list is a classic skaven list that was built by myself, Jordan (warpfire minis), and Keegan (mechrat) – it’s well balanced with a variety of threats

Between two verminlords, 20 PCB’s, hell pit, blizzard and great plagues it can deliver an incredible amount of damage when required – just make sure to not get hit in the good stuff before you can hit your opponent

For matchups, my first round sadly, my opponent had a medical complication the previous evening and was unable to attend.

Round 2 was into Jeremy’s SBGL with heavy recursion and wolves focus, in which a double turn from two verminlords and a hell pit was able to tear right through the centre to reach the soft heroes which underpin the army

My loss to nurgle was to a glottkin slopidy counter melle list from Lazlo – it has been a while since I’ve played into this variant, and mistakes were made.

As a tip for this matchup, it’s very good at pinning your models into place and preventing piles to get most of your models into range – with this in mind in a counter intuitive manner it’s best to lead the charge in with your buffed up verminlords, and have your hell pit and PCB’s waiting in the back for the next turn after the fight has been engaged

The reason for this is if he is able to countercharge into your clanrats, he can place one model just at 2.9 inches from your hammers, combined with slopidy heavily reducing their damage.

However if this is done to the verminlords, with their 3 inch scythe they can still very easily murder what they are put into, rather than only being able to hit with 2-3 PCB’s and being locked out for the game

Lazlo was a great opponent who went on to get 2nd place, only losing to Nathan’s KO in the final round as his list was not designed to fight mass ranged, and I was glad to see him reaching the podium for a strong run.

Round 4 was Jordan’s mixed KotET with a varanguard and belakhor focus, which was an incredibly tight game with myself being pushed down early, I managed to get one sneaky play of censors with death frenzy through a gnawhole to charge the knights, only to double pile around into the varanguard with death frenzies to keep them in check. realising the only way out was a double turn on 3-4 to wipe the board. Playing under the assumption of it being my only out, I hit the double, which sealed the game

My final game was against Tristan and his Ironjaws where I was forced to go first, and set up my defensive lines (death frenzy, dreaded frenzy, mystic shield, flaming weapon) and scored while sitting as far back as possible

On his turn one, he cleared all my clanrats and left my army exposed

Having won priority, I chose to give it to him despite being exposed as I knew as a true ironjaws player, he would be full sending it – however this was a mistake as he should have moved backwards and waited for my defensive buffs to clear

With everything engaged, he chose to fight first with Mawkrusha with destroyer into verminlord warbringer with mystic shield, finest hour, and all-out defence. Sadly for him, he didn’t kill the verminlord, which was essential as it prevented smashing and bashing, which let my plague censors now hit into his pigs and kill all 6 of them.

The other Mawkrusha and pigs killed my hell pit and some less essential pieces, but it now left them exposed on my turn for blizzard, great plagues, frenzies censors and verminlords to clean up – resulting in a bloodbath that effectively called the game

TOTAL POINTS: (1970/2000)

Roland Rivera: A Nurgle list with a reinforced unit of Putrid Blightkings is certainly something you don’t see every day, but Erik was able to pilot it to a very strong result. While getting all of your models into combat will be tricky due to their 40mm bases and 1″ reach, make no mistake – 41 Wounds on a 4+ save and a 5+ Ward do not go down easy, and thus make for quite the anchor in the middle. The list’s Lord of Plagues can also give them a bit of extra utility in the way of a short-range shooting attack.

These Blightkings are complemented by 2 units of Plaguebearers (which will doubtless be using the Sloppity Bilepiper’s ability to shut down pile-ins to great effect), a unit of Pusgoyle Blightlords as a mobile pinning piece, and the combination of Bloab Rotspawned and a Great Unclean One with the Witherstave as Hero Monster muscle.

While unconventional in its approach, there’s no denying that this list is tough as nails, and the difference in output between Blightkings and the more standard Plaguebearer-heavy lists may catch some of its opponents off guard. Sometimes the element of surprise is all you need.

Top Three AoS Lists for the The Leicester AoS GT

Advertisements

This is the top three AoS lists for the The Leicester AoS GT that took place in the UK on the 2nd and 3rd of December. It saw 15 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament.

TOTAL POINTS: 2000/2000

Roland Rivera: While we’ve all seen our fair share of Glottkin lists at AoS tournament podiums this season, this one has made some very interesting choices to support the core of Glottkin + Maggoth Lords for him to control the middle with. One such choice is Horticulous Slimux and the Befouling Host subfaction, which effectively maximizes the ability of this list to summon reinforcements. Slimux’s utility is further bolstered by the choice of Beasts of Nurgle for Battleline.

Another interesting choice is the inclusion of a Spoilpox Scrivener (a unit that buffs Plaguebearers) with no Plaguebearers in the main list. This is likely because the list intends to summon Plaguebearers in if it needs them, and because opting for the Scrivener over some of the more expensive Heroes allows the list to squeeze in an extra unit in the form of Spire Tyrants.

Rounding things out is a Slaves to Darkness Daemon Prince, which was considered a poor choice at higher points totals, but now profiles as interesting anti-Ward tech, which lets this list drop the hammer in the mirror match. All in all, it’s an interesting spin on a list that has proven to be effective this season.

TOTAL POINTS: 1980/2000

Roland Rivera: Khorne Bloodthirster spam has been a popular build of late, and adding Be’lakor to the mix for an extra bit of control has had good results as well. While this list had a weaker result than we typically see at 3-2, it only lost to the 1st and 2nd place finishers, so it had a pretty good showing overall.

The mix of Bloodthirsters skews toward damage and ease of chaining combat activations in Skarbrand, the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage, and the Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster. These are supported by a couple of Priests to make sure you take full advantage of Khorne’s excellent prayer lore, and the seemingly-ubiquitous chaff choice round things out.

I would be remiss, however, to not point out a very interesting tech piece in Ogroid Theridons. Khorne is deep on tricks, but lighter on raw damage compared to some of the other melee armies in the game, and Theridons provide a potent dose of raw damage if you can deliver them into the right combats. I like some of the decisions made in this list, and I think it’s a very interesting spin on Khorne Bloodthirster spam.

CORE BATTALIONS:

TOTAL POINTS: (1980/2000)

Roland Rivera: Now here’s an Ironjawz list you don’t see every week. This list has forsaken the typical strategy of going heavy on Gore-Gruntas in order to do some Herohammer and include both Gordrakk and a Maw-krusha, along with a full complement of Warchanters for all of its hammers.

Another interesting utility tech piece is the Weirdnob Shaman, which offers the prospect of teleportation in Da Big Great Hand of Gork. This can either benefit your main hammers, or the 5-man units of Brutes. Those Brutes may seem like Battleline filler (which they kind of are), but they can be quite punchy if you run them into the right target.

While this list is a bit of a glass cannon in that it’s light on bodies and has middling saves and no mortal wound protection, it is extremely potent on offense, and as such cannot be taken lightly.

Roland Rivera: A very straightforward Nurgle list, this one is trying to do one thing and one thing only: clog the board with a bunch of hard-to-kill bodies and dominate the objectives. The singleton Beasts of Nurgle run interference while the Plaguebearers occupy the center of the board. The Nurglings pressure backfields and rack up contagion points in order to summon even more Daemons

In the Hero department, The Great Unclean One provides support in the form of Fleshy Abundance (for extra Wounds on the Plaguebearer brick) and The Witherstave (for more efficient disease damage), and Monstrous Rampages by virtue of being a Hero Monster. The Poxbringer provides a backup Fleshy Abundance caster, and the Sloppity Bilepiper has the usual pile-in denial shenanigans to give other melee armies fits.

While the gameplan is simple, the success is laudable – this sort of list was not considered to be a serious contender just a few months ago. This result, aided by the Battlescroll shaving down the points on most of the units in the list, clearly argues otherwise.

TOTAL POINTS: (1930/2000)

Roland Rivera: At this point in the season, seeing a Glottkin Nurgle list do well isn’t much of a surprise – Nurgle’s favored mortal servants have been on quite the run as of late. However, this list has a couple of interesting twists to it. First among them is the Befouling Host subfaction and the Poxbringer General to give the summoning a bit more oomph. Second is the deep triumph bid – going 70 points under is not a trivial commitment. The reason why this list is doing so is to add a bit of an insurance policy on the Blightkrieg charges, as Bloodthirsty is the only way to get a reroll on them. Last but not least, this list is using its Ally allowance fairly extensively with 2 units of Furies and Skabbik’s Plaguepack, all of which are here to screen and put forward pressure on objectives.

Beyond them, this is very meat-and-potatoes Nurgle – lots of Plaguebearers to dominate the board, a Sloppity Bilepiper to shut off pile-ins, Nurglings to pester enemy deployment and rack up extra Contagion points. But hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I think Alec’s additions give a nice bit of depth to the classic Nurgle Glottkin gameplan, and were probably a real factor in securing the 5-0 finish.

CORE BATTALIONS:
*Battle Regiment
**Command Entourage
– Magnificent

TOTAL POINTS: (2000/2000)

Walter Brock: Today we are looking at a list that went 4-1 with Mortis Praetorians. Praetorians allow a unit to potentially counter charge after an enemy unit has finished a charge. This has many possible applications that lead to incredibly powerful moments to swing the tide of battle. From stopping key enemy charges to denying battle tactics. The praetorians’ counter charge is only limited by the players imagination.
Instead of Spellcasting Savant this player opted for Barren Icescape. This option makes sense since there is no Locus in the list.

We start off with the Katakros and Arkhan double trouble pairing. We have seen this before and will again. These two are a deadly duo that cover each other’s weaknesses and buff each other’s strengths. From Katakros buffing everything up to 11 with his +1 hit and save aura. To Arkhans Spell casting to support the army with buff spells and stop key enemy spells. The synergies between these two are incredibly deadly and I could go on and on about how powerful these two works together if allowed, but we would be here all day.

Next is whats one of the toughest to kill models in the game. A liege Kavalos with the Lode stone Relic and Might Archaeossian command trait. The combination of the two lets the Liege ignore all negative save modifiers and gains +1 to its ward saves. With a command point for a 5+ ward a liege can achieve a 2+ “ethereal” save and a 4+ ward. This combination makes the liege tanky enough to go places that even Katakros and Arkhan Might fear. Top it off with the command ability to give a unit +1 attack and the liege brings a lot to the table for this list.
A boneshaper with Artisans key and Hoarfrost. With katakros, Arkhan and the Boneshaper. This list could potentially bring back 12 Mortek Guard with just the healing abilities alone each OBR hero phase. Hoarfrost on top of all the buffs that the other characters bring can make any unit perform far and above their weight class.

Deathriders are a very powerful all rounder unit. Capable of multiple roles. From screening to protecting the back field or even denying the opponent the ability to move on an objective. They have an answer for almost any situation.

30 Mortek Guard. A giant block of 30 is a threat to behold. With all the buffs added you can easily engage multiple units with these Mortek units, and they can take out multiple units with their one fight. Imagine 30 Mortek. Hitting on 2s and 5s to hit, gain an additional hit. Wounding on 2s at rend 2. Each model has three attacks a piece. That will bring down almost any target they reach. On top of that they have incredible defensive capabilities. Beinh able to potentially ignore negative modifiers due to their command ability. Or all out defense, or a 5+ ward plus the healing mentioned before. This makes Mortek guard incredibly hard to take down.

Lastly is a unit of 2 Archai. This unit’s biggest value is from its no command aura. Being able to stop enemy commands can easily turn the tides of battle. Turning off all out defense and unleash hell. Make it so a unit can’t pass their battle shock. This unit stops the enemies plans dead in their tracks and lets the Bonereapers keep trucking along.

This list ends up as a four drop with a command entourage and a battle regiment. Opting to go for the extra relic. Well done to this player.

Lodivicus: The Jaws of Mork core trend continues! The currently trending core consists of Skragrott, a Madcap Shaman (with Moonface Mommet and Hoarfrost), a Squigboss, Squig Herd, Boingrot Bounderz, Gobbapalooza and the Bad Moon Loonshrine. The quantity of the battleline units varies a bit from list to list, as we see here. Tad chooses two single reinforced Squig Herd (as opposed to one double reinforced unit) and he cuts back the large Bounderz unit to a single reinforced unit to do so. So rather than rehash the core, as we’ve done in previous commentaries, let’s have a look at what the rest of the points are spent on.

A popular choice, the Webspinner Shaman (on foot) is a 65 point Blizzard wizard with a native 5+ ward. He pairs up with the Madcap Shaman as the two Andtorian Loci of the list and together they unlock the Andtorian Acolyte battalion for (hopefully) more primal dice.

In his version, Tad chose offense over defense by forgoing the more common Sneaky Snufflers in favor of the Kruleboyz troggoth cousin, the Marshcrawla Sloggoth. His 18” aura of +1 hit rolls for attacks made with melee weapons is a huge boon to the output of the list, but in particular the Squig Herd units as they can’t receive commands like All Out Attack.

Congratulations Tad on going 4-1 (only losing in round 5 to the Dhom-Hain Deepkin) and continuing this Gitz trend. It will be interesting to see how the meta adjusts to account for this type of list and if it continues to gather steam.
