The Top Three AoS Lists
Army Faction: Ossiarch Bonereapers – Subfaction: Mortis Praetorians – Grand Strategy: Spellcasting Savant – Triumph: Inspired
LEADERS Arkhan the Black (380) Katakros (460) Mortisan Boneshaper (140) – General – Command Traits: Dark Acolyte – Artefacts of Power: Artisan’s Key – Spells: Drain Vitality
Walter Brock: With the new season Ossiarch Bonereapers have started out of the gate running. This list uses Mortis Praetorians as the sub faction of choice, which allows a unit to counter charge after an enemy unit finishes a charge within 12”. This has a lot of potential things it can do. From stopping other units from charging, to taking objectives from the opponent when otherwise the objectives would have been lost. For mortis Praetorians the sky’s the limit when it comes to the crazy things it can do.
Spell casting savant means the Boneshaper needs to survive until the end of the game to score the grand strat. Because of the Immortis Guard can take hit for it. That means the opponent will need to chew through a lot of tanky models just to stop the grand strat.
Arkhan and Katakros are a two man wonder show. Each being able to heal three different units wholly within 24. Combine that with the Shapers Key and you could potentially return 4 Immortis guard each of your command phases, not to mention all the other things that can be healed too. Katakros has his very powerful Aura of +1 save and +1 hit. Arkhan is a spell casting master at +2 to cast and deny with three casts and unbinds. While also knowing all the lore spells. I could go on and on about what these two do, but we might actually be here all day
Dark acolyte gives the shaper access to an easy battle tactic with a powerful spell of the users choice. On top of it having a very potent healing ability.
Going into the units. Death riders grant access to a solid battle tactic while being able to play multiple roles in a list from screens to taking objectives or even trying to snipe out small heros with there impact hits. These add a lot of options and flexibility to an OBR gameplan.
Immortis Guard and are the Anvil and the hammer. They are very hard to take out. They can’t be ignored most of the time and they demand your attention. Being a 2+ save with katakros’s command ability and then you can stack defensive spells like mystic shield and reinforce construct makes them very difficult to take down. Now add all the healing abilities and it adds up to what feels like an immovable object. They also come with a once per game fight again so they can smack things around incredibly hard.
Stalkers are a unit with multiple choices. They can move fast with their command ability. They can become as tanky as Immortis guard in combat. They can even go full damage mode and take out large threats. They do a good job at rounding out the list and add another tool to the OBR arsonal. Well done to this player

It’s dooble-forg, with a Trog – just like the ‘good’ ‘old’ days. In fairness, I’ve always been bullish on the Trog as a utility piece – even when it’s not being used as a kamikaze spell portal, it has an excellent warscroll spell (halving charges is not to be underestimated), a clutch -1 to hit aura (one of the strongest defensive effects in the game), built-in healing, some modest spike damage potential and the Terror ability – what’s not to love?
We also see double Chargers here, which I’m also a big fan of – point for point they’re the best output in Starborne, and with Speed of Huanchi can be an absolute rocket. I’m guessing the allied Drakespawn are essentially a cheap and equally fast screen for them with that sweet 3+ save, but either way they won’t be long for this world…
With 5 wins, over what looks on the surface to be about the toughest variety of opponents going – such as the shifty BoC, anti-magic Khorne, swarming Gitz, and TWO SBGL – it’s clear that this list and Stark’s generalship truly adhere to The Great Plan!

Army Faction: Beasts of Chaos – Army Subfaction: Darkwalkers – Grand strategy: Desecrating Brayherd
LEADER 1 x Doombull (180)* – General – Command Traits: Bestial Cunning – Artefacts: Bleating Gnarlstaff 1 x Great Bray-Shaman (100)* – Artefacts: Brayblast Trumpet – Spells: Hoarfrost 1 x Be’lakor (340)*

BEHEMOTH 1 x Chaos Gargant (150)
ENDLESS SPELL 1 x Geminids of Uhl-Gysh (50)
OTHER 20 x Ungor Raiders (260)* 10 x Ungor Raiders (130)* CORE BATTALIONS: *Warlord
TOTAL POINTS: (2000/2000)
Roland Rivera: This Beasts of Chaos list, piloted by Worlds Team USA member Jiwan Noah Singh, is trying to do one thing: deliver a giant blob of Bullgors to the spot where they can do the most damage. To that effect, everything in this list is geared around getting them there. The Doombull General has the Bestial Cunning command trait to set up a full deepstrike within 7″, the Bray-Shaman has Hoarfrost to counteract their base 4+ to hit, the Chaos Gargant projects an aura of -1 save, and the Ungor Raiders provide volume shooting to clear screens and expose juicy targets. It also has a potent spell in Geminids of Uhl-Gysh to soften up the target by stripping them of the ability to use commands. The Bulls themselves straddle the line between offense and defense by wielding Axes & Shields – the difference in offense is not large, and a 4+ save can give them enough staying power to survive a counter-attack and crush a second target.
Speaking of survival, the list also has a potent disruption piece in Be’lakor, which can potentially neuter an enemy hammer long enough for your Bullgors to crush it, or prevent reprisals against the Bullgors once they have delivered their payload. It also has access to some emergency bodies via the Brayblast Trumpet, which can be used to summon another unit of Ungor Raiders for more shooting, or a unit of Gors to impose strikes-last in some matchups. Last but not least, a couple of Ungor units serve as cheap objective grabbers and screens for your Heroes or the Bullgors. All in all, this is a highly technical list that walks on a razor’s edge, but in the hands of a skilled pilot (as it was here), it can be devastatingly effective.

Kieron: So new GHB; new list building in this Tzeentch offering from Joe Krier with tonnes to unpack. Let’s start with what looks familiar. The Grand Strategy is the same, Master of Destiny, because there is absolutely no reason to take anything different, especially with Kairos returning a Destiny Dice once per turn and The Eternal Shroud returning them on a 5+ whenever they are used. Most Tzeentch lists tend to lean towards the sub-factions Guild of Summoners or Hosts Arcanum, with Hosts Arcanum being Joe’s choice here for an auto-unbind battle rounds 1, 3 and 5. Merciless Blizzard on a ridiculously high amount (but without a Primal Super-cast) – just unbind it. Bunch of chaff about to be buffed to the moon with Hoarfrost – Tzeentch says no.
When we look at the characters, Kairos is a staple of many lists and does work (just not in combat – hard to hit something if you can only see into the past or the future!). Magister on foot gets the benefit from not being able to be shot when close enough to another unit and can debuff a unit/turn into a spawn from an extended range with Arcane Sacrifice. Fluxmaster carries the Shroud and also is a good choice for Hoarfrost as they have the once per game re-roll with +3 to the cast and it is unlikely to be in range turn 1 of its warscroll spell for extra Fate Points for summoning (although see comments on Endless Spells below). Gaunt Summoner on foot is a great, flexible piece and with its innate +1 to cast hopefully buffed by Kairos to +2 it makes Merciless Blizzard more likely to go off, without having to sacrifice any of the spells you are taking the summoner with. Then it gets a bit funky!
Ephilim the Unknowable is a very appropriately named character as many of you are wondering who he is! He is an Underworlds one-cast wizard who has an entourage of 4 little freaky dudes – his Pandaemonium – that he can sacrifice for +2 to cast for a phase and then bring back some of a subsequent hero phase instead of casting. This little package costs 190 points, which is a lot, with a Curseling being only 10 points more and offering more immediate utility with re-rolling of unbinds. The only reason you would take him is because of his spell and the way it combines with other spells. While Lumineth have a teleport spell, Seraphon have a teleport heroic action and even Tzeentchian sorcerers in Slaves to Darkness have a pseudo-teleport, Disciples of Tzeentch don’t have one that completes in the same hero phase…until now. Ephilim allows a Tzeentch unit to be teleported 9″ away from the enemy, allowing Kairos to operate at maximum efficiency or putting the Gaunt Summoner in striking position for Merciless Blizzard. There are one or two restrictions though…seven to be precise:
Casts on an 8
Teleporting unit must be wholly within 18″
And visible to Ephilim
And within 6″ of an objective
And more than 3″ away from an enemy
And set up 9″ or more away
And be able to be placed within 6″ of an objective
It’s restriction 7 that really bites but the potential tactical advantage if it goes off is pretty huge. If you want to get hold of Ephilim and his Pandaemonium, time to get your converting skills on as I can’t find him anywhere!
That’s the characters covered: now onto the units. Joe has gone for three units of Kairics, cheap battleline that can add a couple of spells in for Fate Point generation and, if they pool their spells into one Kairic unit, can get up to rend -3 shooting. Still only 10 shots, but its something. They can also do chip damage on enemy wizards who cast within 18″, causing a mortal wound on a 4+ and maybe setting up the ‘kill with magic’ battle tactic. Even more chaff like are the Ungor Raiders with their pre-game move getting board control and maybe setting up space for Ephilim to do his thing. The last units are 6 Furies, who haven’t seen that much of an outing since the heady days of Legion of the First Prince and the least interactive army in history! They are fast, allowing Surround and Destroy to be an easy turn 1 tactic and have a neat warscroll ability that allows them to run away instead of fighting. They probably won’t last long, but long enough for the casters to get within 18″ and then annihilate whatever was being roadblocked. It’s a similar principle to the Krondspine – just slow down the enemy while scoring points.
Finally, the Endless Spells. Burning Sigil is a great spell to be able to set up T1 with their Arcane Armies rule that can potentially get a spawn created in your opponent’s lines. It is unlikely to do much damage, but it slows everything else down. Combine with the Magister’s spell that can do the same and the Ungors and the Furies, it’s going to take a while to get to the juicy stuff in this Tzeentch list. The next one is Umbral Spellportal which some feel is more of a luxury pick at 80 points, especially as the range at which the portal can be used has come down. Lots of good spells to potentially go through this though in the early game, with Kairos’ warscroll spell a great choice to snipe a key character, the Fluxmaster to build up some summoning or, potentially, the next Endless Spell (although damage would be delayed a turn.) The final Endless Spell is Aethervoid Pendulum, which can carve through units for D6 mortal wounds in its 8″ movement. Tzeentch really don’t like being rushed by multiple units as single-target damage is where they excel, so this spell helps cover up that weakness for a cheap 40 points.
No discussion of a Tzeentch book is complete without at least a passing reference to Disciples of Tzeentch’s superpower – Grand Strategy and Battle Tactics. As Joe showed, going over 20 points for every battle apart from his one loss, Tzeentch are good at scoring. The Grand Strategy is in the bag and then there are at least 7 Battle Tactics that are straightforward to complete (book tactics and GHB), with a couple others that are doable, if more risky, for example casting 3 with Mass Conjuration. However, even here, keep Kairos out of range of unbinds, spank 6 Destiny Dice and pick easy spells, it’s a battle tactic that the Tzeentch player is in control of.
Overall, a Tzeentch list that wants to keep you at arms length, until it doesn’t, and then smashes you into little bits with its mortal wound output. Great performance from Joe, also managing to dodge Khorne and any sneaky Null Myriad players on his path to victory!

Kevin Lathers: A greyfyrd list which somewhat mimics the Vostarg lists we’ve seen before. It’s got two flamekeepers, a Runefather leading some Hearthguard Berserkers (HGB), and everyone’s favorite Nulsidian Icon carrying Battlesmith.
But this list spices it up a bit by adding a couple extra GC’s: a Grimwrath Berserker with Ale and a Doomseeker with the GHB Nightflyer Cloak. It also knocks out a unit of Vulkites to pump the HGB up from one unit of 15 to 2 units of 10.
Still, this list will play in a similar manner to the previous iterations we’ve seen: become hard to move off objectives while swinging back like a ton of bricks by using flamekeepers to pump berserkers.
The one wrinkle this list throws at opponents is the Grimwrath. With the Runefather, Ale, Rend Rune, Heroic Action, and/or Smiter prayer, a Grimwrath can have 9 attacks hitting on 2’s and 2’s with -3 or -4 rend and 2 damage each swing. It then fights again or fights on death. That’s extremely POTENT, meaning this list now has an absolute missile that can run and charge into a key enemy piece and absolutely wreck it. The Doomseeker will act a much smaller, weaker, missile that will have one single target instead of taking a more opportunistic approach, but still makes opponents have to tiptoe around these GC’s.

OTHER 10 x Ungor Raiders (115)** 10 x Ungor Raiders (115)** 6 x Beasts of Chaos Tzaangor Enlightened (180)*** 6 x Beasts of Chaos Tzaangor Enlightened (180)***
This list reads like a top 10 of the beast (see what I did there?) BoC units. A thin screen of Ungors for whatever you need them for and Bullgors to push up the centre. They have quite the glow up with the recent book, good to see them on tables in big numbers. Tzaangor Enlightened without discs for solid output if a bit slow. Hard to think of Ungor Raides as “Sharpshooters,” but with the Darkwalkers’ ability to slink off a board edge and back on, they are significant, mobile threat.
The Doombull and Bullgors offer excellent control, be that the centre or an edge objective with the Raiders providing some ranged backup and movement potential. The Doombull is rigged for durability and trouble, allowing a reserve unit to set up within 7″ (Bestial Cunning), applying a strike last to a unit after charging (Slitherwrack) and a once per game heal. The spells on the Shaman either straight mortal wounds (Viletide) or apply fights last (Stranglevine). Good choices with the limited spell casting buffs available and once a game summoning a unit helps to (Brayblast). Most to the time the Tzaangor Enlightened will start in Ambush with the Bullgor weathering the storm in the first round.
I’m assuming the Herdstone was included in the list (but not shown). With it’s rend increase from Round 2 and again in Round 4, it’s an autotake that means you need to preserve units until they are at their most effective. Handled well, they are a strong army, as seen here, taking most of the top armies on and winning until undone by Nurgle Chaos Knights (Slaves to Darkness). They are hard to kill and mobile enough to create a lot of issues, especially for an army limited to teleports and 6″ moves.
This is the top three AoS lists for the Aotearoa Masters Grand Tournament that took place in New Zealand on the 20th and 21st of May. It involved 18 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5-game tournament.
As this event had less than 20 players attending there won’t be any list comments here as the guys will be concentrating on the larger events of the week.

Wartilyo Top Table
If you get a few minutes, have a look at the making of the Wartilyo GT Top table. It’s a thing of beauty!
The Top Three AoS Lists
Kieron: And the crown for one of the first, if not the first Philippines GT goes to Tzeentch with another Krondspine/Guild of Summoners combo. There are a few interesting choices here compared to other similar lists, the first of which is the Shards of Valagharr. What all of the Guild of Summoners lists want more than anything is time to get the big birds on the board and an Endless Spell that halves the movement of models and prevents units from flying or being removed from the board and set back up again are always going to be good value. It’s also an easy spell for the Krondspine to eat after killing your own Magister and making the Krondspine go wild with a casting value of only 5. Staying with the theme of slowing your opponent down, nothing puts a unit off making a charge more than having one of its members turn into a gibbering chaos spawn via the Burning Sigil.
Unit wise, two units of pinks is a great start to the list as there’s only summoning of Lords of Change in Guild of Summoners and, alongside the Krondspine, and good use of terrain, it’s going to be difficult to get to the casters for several turns. The Magister is a mainstay of these lists – giving you two potential casts, with the Krondspine giving an additional +1 on top of the +1 from Kairos as well. The other caster is a Thaumaturge, with the Gryph Feather Charm adding a 5+ ward save to this model – really key as if there are no Arcanite heroes alive (i.e. the Magister and the Ogroid) then there’s no summoning in Guild of Summoners.
In terms of how Carlo probably planned each battle to go, it would be to either Cunning Manoeuvre or Tide of Anarchy (take an objective with 9+ models) while building up to 8 summoning points. T2, Call for Change by earning one more summoning point through your opponent’s hero phase or simply through one of your own and then dropping in your first bird. T3, potentially finish off a 9 model unit or 9 wound hero/monster for Ninefold Dismantlement. T4 could easily be whichever of Cunning Manoeuvre or Tide wasn’t done in T1 and then, assuming you have at least two big birds and Kairos on the board and in range of each other, getting Kairos to cast 3 spells with +3 to cast is very straightforward or, just use Destiny Dice to cast them. Make sure you’ve got 9 on Destiny Dice at the end and that’s the Grand Strat as well. You may not even have had to use Desecrate Land or Eye for an Eye, two of the easier tactics to score, with This One’s Mine with the Ogroid being very viable too. And this is how Tzeentch wins – 13 points on the battle tactics and Grand Strategy meaning that even if you only score 10 points on the primary, you still have a very healthy score of 23. If your opponent doesn’t quite finish off enough Horrors to take an objective on a turn they chose Gaining Momentum…a one or two point turn is probably game over against this kind of list.
Congrats Carlo on the result and congrats to the Filipino AoS community!

After a couple of seasons in the shadows, their hunger building, Soulblight are finally back for blood – Legion of Blood, to be precise. And it’s a list archetype you’re going to see a lot of for a while.
The core of the list revolves around a vampire lord on dragon (VloZD) with the Cloak of Mists and Shadows to make it ethereal, aka a 3+ save that can’t be modified either way. Combined with the Doomed Minion trait, allowing it to apply the following effect to d3 enemy units that aren’t heroes/monsters they into engagement with: ANY friendly unit hits that enemy unit on unmodified 2+s. With the new hunger ability – healing up to 6 wounds of damage done – this makes the VloZD a terrifying utility piece that is insanely hard to kill and can make killing key units trivially easy.
Neferata brings up the rear, bringing two key pieces of utility to bear – the ability for her and 3 units to redeploy before the first battle round begins and her spell to make something _unrendable_, i.e. it can still benefit from positive save modifiers. The 10 blood knights are obviously a great receiver for that spell, but it works well on herself too, or the giant blob of Deathrattle to make them an absolute nightmare to fully deal with, especially given the new timing on their ability – essentially a free 4+ rally at the start of the combat phase.
All told, it’s a list with huge utillity, super anvils and fantastic board control – which as you might expect was only dealt with successfully by DoT and their sheer MW output being able to bypass all that tankiness and access to horrors etc to compete with the chaff hordes on objectives. This is a great result for John Paul and certainly not the last we’ve seen of this list.

We’ve a new commentator who joins us this week, and boy, does he love his Chaos armies! Roland Rivera is a US player who’s big into his Khorne, Nurgle, and Slaves to Darkness. As well as that, he also plays Ironjawz, Ogors, and Stormcast. So we’ll probably be hearing a lot from him going forward!
Roland Rivera: Ah, Nurgle. The more things change, the more they stay the same. We’ve been seeing lists built around Pusgoyle Blightlords and the Drowned Men subfaction place well for over a year now, and this is the latest entry in that file. The pregame move Drowned Men provides is very powerful, as it can help you position the Blightlords to engage in midboard attrition scenarios (where they excel) ahead of schedule, or otherwise adjust to your opponent’s deployment and counter the disadvantage of being a 1-drop. Once in combat, Pusgoyle Blightlords can be very hard to deal with, because of their high wound count, solid saves, 5+ Ward, and multiple mortal wound generation abilities. The Blightlords are also paired with the customary Lord of Afflictions General with the Overpowering Stench command trait, which turns off the ability to issue and receive commands. This ability has only gotten stronger as the edition has progressed, as more and more powerful command abilities enter the game. The list also has Bloab as an efficiently costed Hero Monster with a powerful warscroll spell. A unit of Nurglings rounds things out by providing backfield pressure, which in Nurgle also translates to faster generation of Contagion Points you can then use for summoning more Daemons. An interesting bit of tech here is the inclusion of a Plague Priest. This Priest plays multiple roles in this list – he helps interact with Invocations (which Nurgle cannot do with its main roster), he is a Galletian Champion with Tunnel Master for sneaky objective capturing, and he can chant a high-upside prayer in Curse. The Pusgoyle Blightlords have lots of attacks but lack Rend, so Curse provides a nice source of extra damage. Do note that mortal wounds generated from Curse will not stack with disease points – you’ll have to pick one. Overall, this list is very good at what it does – it’s an attrition meatgrinder that can shove tough, elite units in its opponent’s face and pin them down.

Brett: Bullgors centre stage in a list that focuses on board control as much as power with Ungors and Raiders for days. With summoning going away there is more play in Ambush (starting unit, up to the whole army off the board). That pairs well with the Herdstone which increases Rend from Round 2. Combined here with Darkwalkers to let a unit within 9″ of a board edge to leave the board and teleport back on;
4 Ungor and Ungor Raider units to take advantage of that mobility. The raiders being in Galletian Sharpshooters is surprising – their shooting isn’t strong but it does give them more utility. With the Doombull and Bullgors to hold the centre and be buffed by the Sharman this is a durable list with some punch especially later. However both of the Bullgor units only have 5+ saves which might have hurt them (although they can have a ward save). The Ungors (all of them) are free to score points and just be annoying all over the place. Unfortunately, even with their new book, their output can be disappointing since they mostly hit on a 4+. Combined with initially low rend they don’t hit hard until the later part of the game. The Bullgors are loaded for maximum damage but are also vunerable to being roared. If they are removed then the rest of the list lacks punch.
Looks like the Sons of Behemet used that against them and inflicted enough damage early enough to force a loss. Very respectible effort beating Soulblight, Seraphon and Slaves (Nurgle Knights?).

Kel Pigg: A nighthaunt lists takes 5-0, while not an impossible task Nighthaunt have not been doing as well in this season as many originally believed they would so it’s great to see a strong performance.
Marc took a relatively standard Scarlet Doom list taking 40 Bladegheist revenants and having all the nighthaunt aura tech in play, offensives from the guardian of souls and the chainghasts and defensively from the cruxiator and the banshees, giving him the added benefit of being able to shrug off some of the more pesky spells.
Uniquely, though, Marc decided to bring out one of the new regiments of renown. This has been a hotly debated topic in nighthaunt for when this regiment is good, but looking at his list, Marc may be going for more of a counter strike playstyle. The regiment of renown for death gives you access to a corpse cart and some zombies. The corpse cart subtracts 1 from wound rolls within 9 and reduces enemy cast rolls by 1 within 18. But special to the regiment, the corpse cart also reduces the enemy ward and save rolls by 1 within 12 of it. Adding a nice bit of both offensive and defensive tech to a scarlet doom army. The only problem is that the corpse cart only has a movement of 4, meaning it’s needing 4+ runs just to keep up with the base movement of nighthaunt.
That’s why I believe Marc most likely let his opponent hit his line first, absorbed most of the damage with his cavalcade of defensive tech, and then, on his turn, really pushed back hard. His opponent matchup was mostly melee, so they would play into the strengths of this list, and personally, I believe it would be difficult to overcome. But all in all, Marc had an effective list using the new regiment and really showed off it’s potential.

Alice: A very interesting off-shelf model for Nurgle. Very Herohammer friendly, with only 20 infantry models these guys are hoping to win through magical might.
Blightkings are resiliant enough, and Orghotts, the Lord of Afflictions and Lord of plagues can fight alongside them very well. Bloab and the Rotmire Creed offer support from the rear, peppering opponents with debuffs and Disease Points.
Be’lakor is here to do what he always does: Shut down the enemy’s most powerful tool for a turn (possibly two if they get a double) and then scrap with the rest if they can. Even if they fail to do significant damage, pinning down a major threat is reward enough.

TOTAL POINTS: (2000/2000)
So it’s a Krondspine list, Jim, but not as we know it! The changes from the Kaleb inspired lists of previous weeks are that it’s Host Arcanum rather than Guild of Summoners, cutting out the Call for Change battle tactic (summoning a Lord of Change) but allowing for a variety of units to be summoned (probably Horrors still!). It also features a different Endless Spell, with Shards of Valagharr being a useful tech piece to slow the enemy down if they try to go around the Incarnate to get to you.
In terms of other spells, The Curseling has Shield of Fate that they can cast on a double, or two Destiny Dice of the same value, and it can’t be unbound. Combined with the -1 to hit in melee on the Pinks from a Daemon character being in range, a 5+ ward can really increase the survivability of these screens. It might seem a small thing, but keeping those Pinks alive and standing on circles just drains the opponent of points, not only on the primary, but also with battle tactics as well. Add in a Krondspine pinning the enemy in place and you’ve got a recipe for victory.
In terms of opponents, Jordi clearly knows how to pilot his Tzeentch, taking out the Helon Lumineth Realm Lords boogeyman, Teclis and all, on the way to third place. Their only loss was to Marco’s second place list that you will find just above. Nice work, Jordi!

Brett: Beast of Chaos fresh (?) from their Tome Celestial update in the new infantry meta, at least according to GW, with a full monster list. Imagine being at the table, first round, and your opponent starts unpacking this. Finally a chance for Yndrasta to shine. If you are SCE anyway. It happened to Dan in the last round.
With the Tome Celestial changes the Herdstone now provides a board wide -1 rend in turns 1 and 2 and then -2 from turn 3. The Cockatrice plays into this ability, it’s main attack has no rend but on the charge increases from 4 to 8 attacks. With 12″ move and fly they are hard to screen or stop from charging. As monsters themselves they aren’t subject to monstrous rampages (other than Titanic struggle) and aren’t Galletian Veterans. They also get access to Primal Roar – an extra summoning point and possibly 3. Potentially they could summon a Chimera a turn. Nice. Rally can return models on a 4+ (not 6+) within 12″ of the stone as well.
That lets you game the Bravery characteristic as well, you can render them virtually immune to battleshock and pull from the front removing them from combat. Rally them at the start of your turn and you have a very short charge to get them back into combat. The Dragon Ogors re-roll hit rolls of 1 within 12″ of the General as well. They are a little short on spell casting, Belakor doubles the number of spells/cast himself. There are few buffs to casting here so Geminids (casting on a 6) is a good choice putting out MW and stopping commands. Sundering Blades on the Shaggoth suggests he was kept forward most of the time (an additional Rend within 18″). Tendrils of Atrophy is more situational, the Bray-Shaman doesn’t want to get too close.
Lots of monsters to push up the board and, without Hunters in the Heartland available anymore, able to switch off commands at will. That makes taking damage both more likely and more risky. On top of that12″ movement with -1 Rend board wide, which near the Shaggoth was -2 and then -3, makes this very hard to contain. Structuring the army to fit into Battle Regiment battalion. A good example of a skew list taking advantage of the rules, well done on getting Beasts all the way to No 1.

Allegiance: Lumineth Realm-lords – Great Nation: Zaitrec – Grand Strategy: Take What’s Theirs – Triumphs: Indomitable

Brett: Big block of Sentinels, Wardens everywhere, Sevireth, Loreseeker and a Hurakan Spirit of the Wind. All of the favourites with Chronomatic Cogs and a Lifeswarm. The Lifeswarm making it much harder to remove those Sentinels.
I think most people know how this list works; Cogs is unusual but overall variations of this list have been around for a while. Battle regiment to try and go first (giving up the double), make sure you get Cogs out (for rerolls), apply Power of Hysh on the Sentinels and then use Lofted shot to fire 30″ ignoring terrain and line of sight. The plan is to get 5+’s for mortal wounds (around 12 per volley). Power of Hysh can be cast multiple times, here both the Sentinels and 20 man Wardens will probably cast it most turns. The two smaller Warden teams are screens that can also push out a bit to apply Lambent Light. That gives the Sentinels +1 to hit against one unit.
The Loreseeker, 20 man Warden and Sentinals are all hammers in this set up and very dangerous. Given his mobility the Loreseeker is a great choice for Lambent Light as well. The Sentinals extra spell is Speed of Hysh to double their movement if they are threatened or about to be out of range. It’s an effective list and played well into most of the armies until he met Dan. Dan’s army, they are team mates, is a counter to shooting lists. The Cockatrice are individual units so the wounds don’t carry across but you need the full 30 Sentinels to be sure of killing one with MW.
Since they fly it’s very hard to stop them reaching the Sentinels and from round 3 onwards they instakill Sentinels (rend -2 into a 5+ save). The Grand Strategy is an interesting choice, Lumineth aren’t the most interactive army and yet his GS requires him to have 2 units in the enemies territory. That said both Loremaster and Sevireth can easily accomplish that. With infantry and hordes more common will we see a Lumineth return?

Brett: Interesting variation on the popular Blightking/Blightlord armies we’ve started to see a fair bit in Season 1. More heroes and a mix of castle and some mobility through the Blightlords and Lord of Affliction. Also interesting to see a return to the high number of drops as if they didn’t care about turn order.
Aaron has chosen to take limited spell casting but included Geminids for that MW and command prevention utility. The spells double down on the rolling castle by increasing how many disease points are handed out. The Lord of Afflictions will provide his normal redeploy/teleport like abilities to the Blightlord allowing them to fly with him. That maximises their usefulness in Bounty Hunters. Festus provides heals, mostly to the Blightkings. Orghotts and the Beasts are a threat in themselves able to control an area and deny it due to their attacks and disease production. The Harbinger is a very interesting inclusion, his two warscroll abilities farm CP and deny commands.
Interesting approach, this is still a list that is going to try to outlast you but includes a reasonable mobile punch. With all of the big boys on the table they are going to take some time to kill and apply disease points all of the time making them a tough opponent.

Brett: Alex has been talking about his Big Waagh lists for most of this year taking the best of Ironjawz and increasing their flexibility with Kruleboyz. Double warlord for mount traits. Does it work? Is it fun? I suggest you look up Alex in discord (AosCoach) to find out.
The Mawcrusha build is interesting, instead of the IJ approach of Destroyer and Fast ‘Un, Alex has built the Mawcrusha with Arcane Tome for the teleport. He’s then given his mount Mean ‘Un increase the damage done by stomp. The Break-Boss has Fast ‘Un to get it into the enemy quicker, in the end it’s only moving 10″ though without might destroys. Warchanters to hand out ++1 damage and increase the charge of the Gore-gruntas, the Shaman for poisons on the Boltboyz and finally the Wurrgog for his nasty stare. If you can pull it off it’s a very tough list to counter. Going with Tame the Land is a tough call to, you almost need to table your opponent to control all of the objectives outside your territory. It can also spread your army fairly wide.
Unfortunately I think people are beginning to have a good handle on Boltboyz. They need to move (it can be only 1″) to use Hasty Shot and even then with poison they only average 8MW or a dead Cockatrice. But if it was Stormdrakes or Fulminators then they would either not remove a model or only take one. And die the next turn. With only 24″(or 12″ on hasty) it’s hard to keep them out of trouble with out a lot of screens. I think that’s what the ‘ard boyz are doing, but that’s 345+ points tied up. Still it’s innovative army and has some solid punch. If the Wurggog goes off it will remove something important and provide space for the Breaka Boss/Mawcrusha to wreck face. Which is always fun.

Peter: Seraphon continue their dominant form in another event. This time though we see the inclusion of Saurus Knights, with a movement of 8″ and being able to re-roll charges these boys are great at getting up the table quickly, claiming objectives and getting in your opponents face. The Celestite Spear means they’ll be damage 2 on the turn they charged at 4+/3+ and two attacks each.

Peter: Dragon Ogors, lots of Dragon Ogors, 34 tonne precise! With three Shaggoths on the table they can do a fair bit of healing in the event of a tie in the priory roll. In the case of a tie Colin will get to roll a dice for each unit on the field, on a 4+ that unit heals D3 wounds (he can do this three times for each unit!)
This armies quick as well! With a move of 8″ across the board. The inclusion of the Horn of Power also means that any Dragon Ogors within 18″ can run AND charge. Along with that Sundering Blades can give a unit of Dragon Ogors an extra pip of rend on their weapons.

Peter: Like Colin’s list, Rov’s also includes a number of Dragon Ogors and a Shaggoth to go with them. But alongside this Rov’s chosen to include some Ungors (mainly as screen and chaff I imagine), a fair amount of Tzaangors and two Cockatrice. The Cockatrice are great value at only 95 Points each, being able to cause D6 mortal wounds on a 4+ in combat and have a total of ten other attacks as wel if it manages to get a charge in. However, they will die to a stuff breeze.
Tzaangor Enlightened on Discs are a particular pain for an unwary opponent who can get caught out by their 16″ movement and the ability to re-roll hits and wounds if an enemy within 3″ has already attacked in the combat phase. I imagine that the Tzaangors on foot Will pin units in place. The opponent seeing 20 of them will likely focus their attacks (because why wouldn’t you when this unit can kick out up to 60 4+/4+ attacks) on these allowing the Tzaangors in Discs to buff their attacks and do a shed load of damage.

Peter: 4 wins and a loss for a Hedonites list couldn’t be ignored really. Ok their wins are against some mid tier armies but for an army that has been ignored by GW for some time this is a fantastic result. The new updates will give them some love and it will be interesting to see where they place going forwards.
Blissbarb archers and seekers are great when you look at their ability to run and shoot in a turn. This pops their threat range all the way up to 30″ for Archers and 38″ for the Seekers!
