Woehammer Spooktober/Orktober Painting Competition

Advertisements

For the month of October we ran a small painting competition on Woehammer, where the winner could claim a set of free Woehammer dice. All the participants had to do was paint an Ork/Orruk model or a model with a Halloween feel or style.

Our winner, as chosen by the Woehammer Discord community was ElevKev with their excellent Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon.

But all the entries were excellent as you can see below!

Woehammer TTS Tournaments

We’ve recently managed to dupe over 1k people into joining our Discord server! Along with our WoePoints and Hobby Bingo, a big attraction seems to be our Tabletop Simulator tournament’s which we’ve recently changed the format of.

Previously, it ran as a standard GT, with a game per week over 5 weeks for anyone interested no matter where they were from. What we found was some difficulty for people to schedule games when they’re in vastly different time zones. So we swapped to continental tournaments with the winner and runner-up of each continent being invited to a truly international round robin.

The first of these continental tournaments have just finished, and the first (virtual) awards handed out. The first event saw continental tournaments for North America, Europe, and the Pacific.

North America

With only one Canadian, it was more of a US tournament, but even so, that meant there were three awards to hand out!

Being the winner, Discord User Raybear walked away with both the top US player and the first place North American. While Mortis walked away as default Canadian winner.

Raybear and Fabien are now lined up to take part in our international tournament under the new GHB, kicking off next week.

Europe

This event was much more interesting with representatives from no less than 7 countries.

Two English players, Hippy’Grinder’chef and Ogor Pete, walked away with the invitations to the international event. While hippy’Grinder’chef, Metek, LCSaba, Codrin, Nathan88, nmehlbye, and Sacep all walked away with 1st Place for their respective nations.

The Pacific

On the Pacific front, Khorgol walked away as first placed Filipino and 1st in the Pacific. While Australian Stuart Morton qualifies alongside him for the Woehammer Worlds Event. If the thought of competing in an international TTS tournament appeals to you, why not join our friendly discord and put your name down for the next event, which will start at the end of August?

International TTS AoS GT

In preparation for the Woehammer GT taking place next year in 13th & 14th May, we thought it may be fun to give players from around the world the chance to test their metal against one another.

It also gives me chance to test the BestCoastPairing System before we use it next year.

Entry to the tournament is free! If you want to sign up and take part (and face the likes of Josh Bennett – Daughters of Khaine World #1, Randal Brasher or even Tavendale from no-rolls) then drop me an email to thewoehammer@gmail.com with your name and email address.

  • As entry is free their are no prizes at present.
  • Army lists must be submitted by Friday 19th August
  • Players will have a week to play each round
  • Games should take no longer than 3.5 hours
  • Once matching takes place, players will need to organise with their opponent a suitable time to play.

It’s finally time to announce the winner of our painting competition who, with thanks to SCN Hobby World, will walk away with a start Collecting! or Combat Patrol box of their choice.

There were so many great entries to the competition and I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to take part and also to my fellow judges, Sarah, Ed, Declan and Rhys.

Here is the full list of entries:

Marks were awarded out of ten for each miniature by each judge on the panel, and it was a very close run contest!

3rd Place – Antonio Rodrigo & Justin Jackson

The judges just couldn’t separate between the two miniatures with both receiving the same scores across the panel. So both Justin and Rodrigo will walk away with a £10 Games Workshop voucher.

2nd Place – Joseph Isham

In second place and winning £20 of GW vouchers in Joseph Isham who submitted this awesome Space Marine Chaplain conversion.

1st Place – Steve Milford

In first place and walking away with the inaugural Woehammer Painting Competition top prize is Steve Milford and his excellent Relictor.

As I said before the standard really was very high with only 6.5 points separating the top six positions!

I hope you have all enjoyed taking part, and again I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Sarah and SCN Hobby World for sponsoring this event and providing the top prize!

So the deadline has closed and the judges are reviewing the miniatures and giving their scores. We will announce the winner on Friday 7th January where they’ll be asked which Combat Patrol or Start Collecting box they would like as their prize.

This has all been made possible thanks to our amazing sponsor SCN Hobby World, where you can get up to 25% off your miniature orders!

Stay tuned!

Painting Competition Announcement

Small announcement in regards to the painting competition.

We are extremely sad to announce that due to cheating the competition has been closed and no prize will be issued.

My apologies to those of you who have competed. All your entries were amazing and unfortunately this has been spoilt by one individual who shall remain nameless.

I’ll be reopening to entries in the next day or so with a closing date of 31st Jan. This time I’ll have the Woehammer guys as judges rather than voting. I’ll automatically include those who entered into the competition.

My sincere apologies!

We are extremely sad to announce that due to cheating the competition has been closed and no prize will be issued.

My apologies to those of you who have competed. All your entries were amazing and unfortunately this has been spoilt by one individual who shall remain nameless.

We will however hold another competition soon where a judges panel will be selected in placed of voting.

I’ll be reopening to entries in the next day or so with a closing date of 31st Jan. This time I’ll have the Woehammer guys as judges rather than voting. I’ll automatically include those who entered into the competition.

My sincere apologies!

I know I originally said that I would run this on twitter AND the website, but I’ve decided for greater control the voting ill be done through the website only (this way I can delete multiple votes from the same IP).

We’ve had ten fantastic entries to our first ever painting competition sponsored by the lovely people over at SCN Hobby World. Go and subscribe on their website to get 25% off GW products!

But it’s time to close for entries and get the voting under way! Voting will start today and run until 31st December to give everyone plenty of time to vote. The winner will be announced on the 1st January, at which point I will contact them and ask which start collecting or combat patrol box they would like as their prize.

So in the order of submission here are your competition entries! Get voting!

Woehammer Staff Painting Competition

So as well as the public painting competition (where you can win a Start Collecting or Combat Patrol box of your choice, courtesy of SCN Hobby World), we’re also running a mini painting competition for those here at Woehammer.

But I need your help! Below are all the entries to our competition (without names to remove any possible bias), I’m going to post a poll on Twitter on which model you think deserves to walk away with prize. But you can also vote on your favourites below which will be added to the scores. Vote for that which brings you joy!

Here are the entries:

Cartoon Pin-Up

This model has had the cartoon or cell-shaded method used on it where the artists has lined in black and then painted the areas between. Pulled off to perfection.

Jakkob Bugman XI

This particular artist has been painting for nearly two years now, but has the skills of someone who has been painting for ten times that long. Take a moment to enjoy the bear in the window on the rear of the back pack.

Imperial Fist Captain

An experienced artist who has put every detail into the model with water effects, zenithal highlighting and weathering. There are so many details to see with this model from the chipping on the black trims around the shoulder pads, to the details on the cloak to the water effects on the boots!

Howling Griffons Captain

Another artist who has been painting for only a couple of years and has gone town with an excellent water effects base and glowing power sword. I love the idea of this Captain leading his troops on some kind of water planet scourging the xenos ahead of them.

Calas Typhus

Another experienced artist who took particular care on the base and weathering and lots of wet blending.

Ork Beastsnagga Warboss

15 / 7

A model with rage and violence in abundance, look at all that blood flowing from the sword! With warpaint, a headless primaris and as I mntioned… lots of blood whats not to love about this mini?

Woeful Brush – Painting Competition

Advertisements

There’s only a week to go with our inaugural painting competition the Woeful Brush, sponsored by our friends at SCN Hobby World.

The winner of the competition will walk away with their choice of Combat Patrol or Start Collecting Box. You still have a week to enter as the closing date for entries is 30th November 2021.

To enter, email at least two pictures of your models to thewoehammer@gmail.com. One picture must contain a note with the email address the submission is coming from, this will prove its your own work and not that of someone else.

  • Your chosen model must be on a base no bigger than 50mm in diameter
  • Only one submission per person
  • The miniature can be from any manufacturer not just Games Workshop

Once the submissions close on the 30th November voting will begin on the website and Twitter. Once the voting is over we will contact the winner to congratulate them and ask them for their choice of start collecting or combat patrol box.

What are you waiting for, get your entries in!
