Walter Brock: What happens when Bonereapers and Soulblight work together in the same list? You get some spooky synergies. Gavin’s list has an unusual twist in the fact it doesn’t run 7 Bonereapers units to max out their command points, but more on that later. Onto the list.
Starting off we have Null Myriad. We’ve seen this do well quite a bit over the past few months. Being able to stop powerful spells on a 2+. When things like merciless blizzard exists is incredibly powerful. Very important to note. Katakros and the Regiment of renown do not benefit from Null Myriad.
Spellcasting savant has become the go-to choice for Bonereapers at this point. Killing the ossifector next to six Immortis guard is a very tall order.
First we have the powerful Combo of Katakros and Arkhan. Katakros makes everything tougher with his 1+ to save and +1 to hit Aura in a massive 24 in Aura. While also applying crippling affects to the opponent by giving a enemy unit -1 to hit and also potentially making the opposing player lose a command point each turn. Arkhan being a magical powerhouse in death, second only to Nagash himself. With three casts and unbinds at +2 he can compete with the best casters in the game. He basically has the hunger like vampires from soulblight. So he gets healing from doing some damage in combat. They also each come with an incredible healing ability. Leading to a potential total of 18 wounds of healing each Bonereapers hero phase at minimum.
The ossifector is an interesting choice. While it won’t be able to use the main ability on its warscroll due to the unit in the army. The Artifact applys a 9 inch Aura of +1 to wound in melee. Meaning Immortis guard can now be hitting and wounding on 2s. This artifact alongside Katakros makes the list incredibly efficient. Hoarfrost adds more good support of making numbers even better. Diversion tactics creates a powerful -3 charge bubble for enemy units. Potentially denying battle tactics or key enemy charges.
Death riders are seen everywhere these days for OBR. Easy battle tactic. Good screen. Good for almost any job. And with all the buffs the list can provide. Any unit of deathriders could be a deadly threat.
Immortis guard are incredibly tanky being 5 wounds and a 2+ save under Katakros. Arkhan throwing up mystical shield and All out defense will making Immortis almost impossible to take down.
Lastly is the Soulblight Regiment of renown. These act as a normal corpse cart and zombies unit with a few differences. The corpse cart is now a hero. This lets it benefit from the -1 to hit from look out sir, and adds another model that can issue commands (No OBR commands since it isn’t a Bonereapers model). And the big thing is the corpse cart gives off a 12 inch bubble of -1 to ward saves for enemy units within range. The zombies provide a cheapish screen. Something bonereapers don’t normaly have access to.
All of this ends up as a three drop list. Well done to this player.

TOTAL POINTS: 2000/2000
Roland Rivera: Taran Birk has brought us a spicy morsel of a Khorne list. Most lists of the Blood God’s forces rely on their troops – not this one. Instead, this list has gone for the full 6 Heroes (including the double Warlord battalion), the full 3 Invocations, and mostly kept the troops to the “cheap objective holders” role. Think of it as Khorne’s best Tzeentch impression.
The stars of the show are Skarbrand and the Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury, which will be giving you 3D6″ charges (Skarbrand for himself, the Unfettered Fury Thirster for anyone) and doing the heavy lifting in the damage department. The list also has several Priests (including the Unfettered Fury Thirster itself) to help power out whatever Prayer or Invocation is the most useful at the moment. Skarr Bloodwrath rounds out the Hero lineup as a cheap, recurring space blocker that can also double as a source of Blood Tithe.
Some interesting additions are Khagra’s Ravagers as an Ally (likely for the teleporting objective grabbing threat of Mask of Darkness, and Andtorian Locus-centered Battle Tactics) and a Cockatrice as a deterrent for charging into one of the big guys. Overall, this style of Khorne list seems to be gaining momentum, so don’t be surprised if you see similar lists going forward.

Kevin Lathers: Noe has run a very similar list to good effect previously. With some slight tweaks in that list he seems to have improved his standing. Always good to see effective adjustments.
With only a single priest with Wrath of Vulcatrix (to secure the Grand Strat), this list foregoes the usual inclusion of a Runesmiter as well as any Magmadroths. Instead it relies on the Runemaster’s Ember Storm prayer and the new hero’s once per game 6″ bubble of Run + Charge to add any speed it needs. Further, the Grimwrath Berserker can be given Run + Charge as an oath or stick near the Grimhold to soak up the buff and take a different Oath. This makes the list surprisingly quick, albeit only one time.
With all these vulkites and Hearthguard Berserkers, the list can certainly sit on objectives and hold them, relying on the Flamekeeper buffs, Counterstrike, and Fight on Death to hold any charging waves of opponents to very poor trades. And then, if opponents do charge into the lines, the flamekeepers will often maintain their buffs for a counter charge/fight on the next turn with +2 damage on a units weapons; this can be devastating on the Broadaxe berserkers, sending them to 4 damage swings or making a Vulkite Axe unit have 3 damage swings with a ton of attacks.
His matchups were mostly favorable for Fyreslayers — SoB are notoriously a DPS check and that’s an area Fyreslayers seldom struggle with; further the new hero can be quite potent if he can get his once per game nuke on a gargant, rolling 35 to 40 dice for an average of 17 to 20 mortal wounds on a single attack. But managing a draw against Khorne is impressive with a Fyreslayers’ list which relies on auras, which Khorne can mess up with their controls, and shows not only the tankiness of the list but the skill of the pilot. Khorne can control the battlefield in such an exreme way while being tankier, hitting as hard as FS for less cost, and being able to deny the grand strat; so pulling out a draw is quite good.
Overall it’s a solid list piloted by a good player. Falling just shy of a the golden 5-0 but still claiming undefeated is no easy feat with Fyreslayers in the current meta.

The Top Three AoS Lists
Army Faction: Idoneth Deepkin – Subfaction: Fuethán – Grand Strategy: The Creeping Gloomtide
LEADERS Ellania and Ellathor (190)* Isharann Tidecaster (140)** – General – Command Traits: Teachings of the Túrscoll – Artefacts of Power: Dritchleech – Spells: Steed of Tides
Brett Martin: Shout out to Jon for his ASCII shark at the top of his shark list. Very clever.
Joshua Bennett: So what happens when you just get finished watching the Sharknado series and decide to go to a GT. Well, ask no further because Jon Anderson answered it for us. What should have been a meme list actually turns out to be a new meta for deepkin. How you might ask, as well you should. Let’s take a dive (see what I did there dive, and a shark list) and break this list down.
First we have the twins. What is the twin’s purpose you might ask. And that would be an amazing question to ask as the purpose seems unclear. And i’ll be honest after playing the list round five in this tournament other than a level 2 caster i could not answer that question for you other than Jon had to somehow still play Lumeth models in his new list. But much like the bermuda triangle the world may never know the true answer.
The tidecaster gives off a nice ritual that they can choose from. Against my all shooting list, he chose the ritual that does not allow line of sight outside of 12 inches, which you know isn’t cool but works great with this list. The artefact allows him to throw a ship on the board to shut down charge lanes and have a garrison terrain wherever he wants it.
Jon in action at the Southern Fried Open
Now let’s talk about the sharks, deepkin has the advantage in shooting bc the allegiance ability only allows your opponent to shoot the closest unit. While he maintains a 24” range for his shots, that added with his 14 inch move means nowhere on the board is safe. He on the other hand just feeds you one or two sharks a turn. So they are great at shooting, I’ll just charge them. I see this being the thought of most people but what you have to understand is that they are also decent in combat and can lift your units as well.
There are not a lot of good answers to this list and behind the piloting skills of Mr. Anderson, this list is very deadly. If you happen to be paired into him, make sure you bring a bigger boat.

Jon Anderson: I’m a big fan of Josh’s listbuilding style, and it’s full send on efficiency.
Be’lakor was not a direct power player in our game, but he helps deal with the handful of bad matchups you had in the previous Generals Handbook so I think it’s perfectly valid to see it here.
In terms of raw efficiency, I don’t think much can outlast this list and I’d heavily advise anyone who is interested in a 40k-esque army to give this book and, more specifically, this list a look.
As much as it pains me to say, this was an uphill battle from the starting gun as forcing Josh to shoot the closest fish, as well as only being visible within 12″ due to the Isharann Ritual, meant that if Josh went first he would do nothing and then risk the double. Because this was the case, he had to give me top of 1, which allowed me to remove about 25% of his blissbarbs and subsequently present him with a single shark that he could shoot at when the turn went back to him. This was a case of Allegiance Ability supremacy and goes to show that if we do go into a shooting meta again, now that Deepkins points have dropped, it’s well within reason to believe that an MSU list of this sort could become a real power player in the meta.
Josh seized his moment at the bottom of turn one by getting his epitome into two sharks with a great charge however the curse of the single model unit came back to bite him and rolling 3 1’s to hit with the epitome left her exposed and vulnerable. After losing his epitome, 20 blissbarbs, and two seekers at the end of round 1, losing the priority roll was the last nail in the coffin. The mobility of sharks meant that I would be able to fly around the board and attack at every conceivable angle, and Josh didn’t have much recourse to play against it.
Don’t get it twisted. If you, as the reader, took Josh’s list to an event, you will do significantly better than if you took my shark list. Josh’s list is refined, honed, and deadly. My list was just the one thing he couldn’t deal with.

Army Faction: Ossiarch Bonereapers – Subfaction: Null Myriad – Grand Strategy: Spellcasting Savant – Triumph: Bloodthirsty
Walter Brock: This player chose to use Null Myriad for the spell ignore. Adding a layer of protection from powerful spells from factions such as Tzeentch and Seraphon.
Spellcasting Savant works very well with the Boneshaper and Immortis Guard for getting a reliable battle tactic.
Starting off with the list itself, we have Katakros himself. The big boss himself has several abilities to support or disrupt the opponent. The main buff he provides is an absolutely massive 24” aura of +1 to hit and +1 to save rolls. It is important to note that He still has the Mortis Praetorians keyword. This means he cannot benefit from the Null Myriad sub faction.
The general of this list is a Boneshaper with a standard loadout with Artisans key and Aura of Sterility with Dark Acolyte. Aura of Sterility helps to protect your army from opposing shooting. Dark acolyte allowing for an easy battle tactic in magical dominance, and Artisans key potentially allowing a second use of it heal ability.
Next is an interesting choice in the form of a Soulreaper. These are not seen very often. The key difference from a reaper to an Ossifector or Boneshaper is first. It’s cheaper points wise, and it has a decent combat profile with potentially up to 5 attacks at rend 2. Meaning it can hit decently hard while spreading the Null Myriad aura and providing spell support. It’s a very cool thing to see on the table.
A unit of 3 Immortis Guard is a little bit of a difference from the Normal 6 Immortis we see in most lists. These are tanky, provide solid damage, and help protect the shaper for the grand stratagem.
Two units of 6 Stalkers. This player decided to step on the gas and keep going. Hunt and kill let them count as flying for moving over terrain, and they can run and charge. There are four different stances that allow them to adapt to different situations. Making for a tough to kill unit that can hit hard and move fast.
Lastly is a single unit of Deathriders. These can act as a nice screen. Provide an easy battle tactic and their speed to get into places to block enemy units off. Death riders have several uses, and the only limit is one’s imagination.
All of this fits nicely into a battle Regiment to be a single drop. Well done to this player.

Kevin Lathers: This list was a fun one that was brought due to a poll posted in various discords with lists. The denizens of those discords could vote and I would take the winner.
There were six lists. In this case, “I Was A Fyreslayer in My Previous Life But Now I’ve Been Reincarnated as a Balloon But I Have to Still Help My Old Lodge??!?!?” won the vote. Only twenty people voted, but it won with a resounding 6 out of 20 votes! The people crave Isekai, I guess. Originally it was supposed to have Brokk as the titular hero, but I couldn’t find my Brokk (I guess he’s on his own adventure or was kidnapped by a cat) so it ended up getting Wardens instead.
The list itself is very good at accomplishing tactics, in part due to the added mobility of the Wardens combined with Vulkites and a Grimwrath to aid in accomplishing FS tactics. The Wardens also added a bit of speed to a list lacking runesmiters and throughout the tournament assassinated four wizards and a priest. They ended up being quite potent.
Further, the new hero was actually quite useful. By sticking it near the HGB, along with the Runefather, you have a block of units all with a 4+ that can run+charge once per game and all get +1 to charge. This allows for heavy split pushing, with that trio going one place and the rest going another, the Grimwrath is a free agent going where he chooses due to oaths and self-sufficiency.
Despite being a bit of a fun list, and not particularly competitive, it ended up playing surprisingly well. My only loss was to a very solid Khorne player taking advantage of my mistakes while playing an unconventional list that actually was somewhat of a counter to this one. ‘
For anyone looking to ally in some KO and maybe look for a simpler list to run, this may work well for you.

Soulblight continue their inevitable shamble towards victory with a Vyrkos list that proves why it’s the sub-faction of choice since the (entirely justified) LoB tweaks in the last battlescroll. Not that Vyrkos came off unscathed either, but it was probably a light touch – chances are, given the win-rates, lists like this get touched a little more in the near future…
But until then – zombies! A key sub-faction ability here is the ability to add d3 models back to a unit in the hero phase on top of the existing recursion, plus a once per game summon of 10 dogs – which combos savagely with the 5+++ bubble projected by Torgillius, and the slightly smaller 5+++ bubble of the Ulfenkarni Phylactery (try saying that 10 times fast) on Gorslav. This, obviously, makes the task of killing *quick maths* a FUCK TONNE of zombies, and 40 (factoring in the summon) wounds of DIre Wolf fairly arduous. The corpse cart – excuse me – carts equip the zombies with a nasty MW on 6s to wound in addition to their MW rolls on dying, equating to a hyper-nasty attrition game with insane board control – helped by the command trait on Gorslav, allowing deadwalkers to make a small hero phase move.
I don’t envy the man for having to push all those models around but with that weight of bodies, you can probably afford to be less than forensic with your positioning. Taking down a range of opponents who mostly have very respectable output and tricks of their own, Guan here proves that simply roleplaying a George Romero movie will get the job done.

We’ve managed to nab him again! This list was so good I knew Pete would be interested in taking it on. Thanks again to Pete from PlasticCraic for helping us out!
It’s something that made SOB aficionados the world over issue a collective “Hmmm….”. What if we took the new Squigs Regiment of Renown, and added our three favourite Mega Gargants? A lot of people mentally went straight to the adrenaline-rush option of Trip Gatebreakers plus the Regiment for 2k on the nose and stopped there, filing the whole thing away as a thought experiment. But not Christopher Schelling – he backed himself in and put it on the table with glorious results. Chris earned this 4-1 the hard way, heading onto top tables in the final round with a 4-0 behind him, with wins against SBGL and Seraphon, meaning this was no bunny run.
Why does the regiment work well in Sons?
Screens! By default, your big boys will usually hold any objectives they’re near, and if you can hold them for 3 turns, you usually win the game. So, being able to protect the Megas from combat output for a turn gives you a 1-0 headstart in a race to 3. In that context, it doesn’t really matter that the screens themselves are not super-efficient. Because the Regiment starts off the board, it’s easy to position the Rabble Rowsa where you can run towards him; and since your whole army is Monsters, they can all do the run and charge thing.
It gives you a few scrappy units to work towards Battle Tactics (such as Surround and Destroy) and your Grand Strat (run or charge with a unit every turn). That latter can be tricky when your Megas get bogged down or you get swamped and tabled – just scattering a bunch of different bits and pieces to the 4 winds makes it much more likely to be achieved.
Couple of Unbinds from the Gobbapalooza? Don’t mind if I do. Their Warscroll spells are dope too, and because they’re both debuff spells, they benefit Sons despite having no direct keyword synergy – they don’t need it. Plus, ya know, Mystic Shield.
So this is a group that synergises extremely well with the Megas – it really is their natural home, and it works in so well with your gameplan that it overcomes any natural inefficiencies from not being reinforced. Big fan.
Chris’s chosen direction was two Breakers and a Stomper, which leaves room for a strong Triumph bid in a 2-drop package. The Gatebreakers are still great fun, with their 4D6 smash bypassing a lot of anti-combat bullshit since it’s not an attack, just an ability. Sons players will be all too familiar with those combat phases where your 500-point combat unit does zero damage, even if you don’t choose the smash – and I wish I was exaggerating here – so the Wartsomper’s greater volume of dice should give you some kind of semi-reliable output when you aren’t desperate to spike, but just really to do something.
Because you’ve got the upside and inherent brutality of the twin Gate Breakers, Chris has consolidated with his Enhancements, taking a full package of defensive tech. 40 wounds CT on his General plus a 6++ ward puts him on 46.7 effective wounds and the Glowy Shield ignores rend -1 specifically (as opposed to reducing rend by 1). As a Sons player myself, that’s something I’d love to see addressed in a future Battlescroll, because it feels slightly outdated in a world of rampant rend creep – there is still a fair amount of rend -1 in the game though, so it’s still a decent enough pick, especially with the dopamine hit when you spike the bounceback mortals that it also brings.
The list can win games passively or proactively, and while it may still struggle on Battle Tactics, the list choices here take a positive step to address that. All in all this army has a really refined feel, and it’s something I’d be happy to take to an event myself.

Army Faction: Ossiarch Bonereapers – Subfaction: Null Myriad – Grand Strategy: Overshadow – Triumph: Inspired

ENDLESS SPELLS & INVOCATIONS 1 x Malevolent Maelstrom (30)
TERRAIN 1 x Bone-tithe Nexus (0)
CORE BATTALIONS *Battle Regiment
TOTAL POINTS: 2000/2000
Walter Brock: Going down the list we start with the sub faction choice of Null myriad. Allowing 2+ spell ignores for units wholly within 9” of Arkhan or the Boneshaper. Important to note that Katakros cannot benefit from this because he is still having the keyword for his own legion.
Overshadow is a different choice from the classic Savant grand strategy we usually see used. Overshadow means you would need to destroy all enemy battleline units while keeping one of your own alive. It’s a strong choice and unlike Spellcasting savant. You don’t have to focus on keeping one model alive and can spread out a bit more if the moment arises.
Starting off with the heroes. Katakros and Arkhan are a Dream team together. Katakros buffs the army to kingdom come with his command ability while also crippling the enemy with a few of his abilities. He may be slow but if he gets into combat with a hero nearby, he can hit incredibly hard. Arkhan on the other hand is the opposite of Katakros. Arkhan is fast, very fast, He doesn’t hit as hard as Katakros. Having three casts and denies at +2 lets him help stop important spells and cast important spells. They compliment each other very well and the synergies are endless.
The bone shaper rounds out the heroes. Taking Aura of sterility to cripple enemy shooting with -1 to hit and -1 to wound for friendly unit wholly within 12”. With Null Myriad and Aura of sterility this list is very resilient to heavy magic and shooting. Artisan’s keys let the Boneshaper potentially double down on is healing by letting it heal a second time on a 3+. This player opted to go with Hoarfrost since Arkhan already knows all the Ossiarch spells.
The Deathriders can do a couple of things. They can screen. They come with a relatively easy to use battle tactic. Because of their decent bulk they could also be used to block an opponent’s movement and stay in the way. These guys have a lot of uses.
This player has opted to go for a Unit of three Immortis guard and a unit six Stalkers. Stalkers being very fast with their hunt and kill command. Which plays well into the grand strat of trying to kill enemy batteline and supports an aggressive gameplan. The three Immortis guards are around for a few reasons. They can hit decently hard, bodyguard characters, and Unlock a Battle tactic in the form of Sculptures Entourage with the Boneshaper.
Lastly this player has made an interesting choice of using a unit of 10 Mortek Guard. We don’t see these little guys too often since the Harvester change. They have a few jobs that not a lot of other OBR units can do. They are the best points for the number of attacks in the book. At a nice 21 attacks for 150 where the Deathriders are 180 for the same number, and half of theirs don’t even have rend. They have a Unique command ability that basically gives them Ethereal at their 4+ save, letting them stand up to a few things that other units might not be able to. They are also the most Model counts for their points. So, 10 Mortek guards can run onto a point and have better chances of taking a point away from an opponent. A very cool choice with a lot of potential.
Finishing it out is the Maelstrom Endless spell. For 30 points this thing is a steal. The crazy thing about it is its damage is always going to happen. When it goes away it blows up so its guaranteed damage, and with Arkhan’s spell range increase it will reach a lot of places. All of this except for Katakros sitting inside of a Battle Regiment. Often this list will decide who goes first. With their score this player has done a good job at showing how they can make their choice effective. Well done to this player.

Kevin Lathers: Bringing out the new hero from the Regiments of Renown, the Grimhold Exile, Noe has put him in a list that is all about board control.
And then, if opponents do trade into the Fyreslayers, the flamekeepers will often maintain their buffs for a counter charge on the next turn with devastating 3 damage attacks.
With wins against Slaanesh Blissbarbs, Ogors, SCE, and IDK, the list would certainly prove its tanky enough to take a punch and throw it right back. The 4++ ward saves on the HGB can prove a potent vanguard and objective holder. This is backed up by a Runefather that can swing with -2 rend 4 damage attacks on a 3″ reach which is nothing to sneeze at.
Overall this list is going to be a tough nut for many armies to crack. Opponents will need to choose their battles carefully, especially if the flamekeepers are ready to pop their buff.

Russell Taylor: My list is designed around the ability to have one big turn so when I decide it’s the time to go which is usually turn 1 but can be delayed then I can devastate state my opponent’s army.
The key to this is being able to move my ships and get the thunderers out afterwards this is why I have included the soulscream bridge because it allows me to disembark the units inside the ironclad after bridging them meaning I can apply the extra rend from the khemist to my thunderers and also meaning that my 12 inch range guns are also in better range, I took the footnote that allows two commands to be given to a ship so I can fly high my frigate and disembark using two command abilities mirroring the use of the soulscream bridge. The admiral allows me to give another additional rend once per game which can also be used without disembarking if I don’t need to stack all the rend at once.
The combination of these tactics mean I can deploy in the corner out of range of my opponent and then strike with easy killing priority targets and then clearing up in the next few turns.

TOTAL POINTS: (1990/2000)
Dan Sidders: The One with the Goat The list is built with 3 things in mind: it needed to be 1 drop because of the battle pack, it needed to unlock some tome tactics & I wanted it to be a combined arms force that had melee & ranged damage.
The fulminators are battleline in Hammers of Sigmar and delete anything they hit but need a delivery mechanism. That’s where the Drakespawn Knights come in. 10 wounds on a 3+ save for 110 points on cavalry bases. Turned sideways they can screen enough ground to cover a block of 4 large dracoth bases. They also have 10” move the same as the Fulminators so can move up at speed and maintain the screen. They unlock the Pioneers of the Realm battle tactic to contest enemy home objectives with a Cities unit which I completed in 3/5 games. There’s no requirement to control the objective and often one lone survivor would just sneak in during the late game to score the points.
I wanted to get away from the Wildform, Translocate option I had been running because i was throwing the Fulminators forward too early and recently I’ve been trying to slow my gameplay down slightly to force myself to make better decisions.
The shooting hammer came from 10 Crossbow Judicators who have the Rapid Fire rule giving them exploding hits, which when buffed to hit on 2’s provides the highest output shooting available to Stormcast into anything but a 2+ save. It also provides 10 models to stand on an objective and fills a battleline slot. The downside being that they only have 18” range; so I needed something to screen them in order to deepstrike within range.
So my third battleline slot was filled with 4 Tempestors who, like the Judicators have crossbows with exploding hits and the benefit of some rend and mortal wound breath attacks. These guys were deployed out of scions 9” away from my opponents front line – the Judicators sat behind. Lots and lots of shots poured into the enemy. The Tempestors could then risk a charge or simply stand there – the unleash hell they put out is like getting a free fight first! Averaging 10 wounds into any target without a ward. With 24 wounds on a 3+ they generally took up my opponents attention for a couple of turns while the fulminators closed in.
The utility pieces in the list were provided by the heroes; the Zephyros innately teleports and counts as 10 on objectives with Stubborn as a Rhinox but always started the game right on the back line. The comet has 36” range so can be deployed outside of unbind range turn 1 due to the Arcane Tome. The Goat, Aventis Firestrike who dropped to 270 points in the recent battlescroll gives me a 2 cast wizard allowing for a mystic shield and Thunderstrike for a -1 to wound aura within 18” boosting the survivability of the fairly elite force. The fact that he’s a 14” flying monster means he can get into the action to supply a well placed roar and also shift from deployment up behind the shooting units to hand out +1 to hit which solves the need for AOA on both units to maximise the damage potential.
The MVP’s were the 5 sequitors who were a second screen for deployment and an objective holder in the early game. Activating their 5+ ward helped to make them stubborn when needed and then when they went down I used Call for aid to resurrect them further up the field and hunt a hero for the No Challenge too Great tome tactic using their exploding 6’s to hit. Perfect now there are lots of Galetian champions running around!

Units 20 x Vanari Auralan Sentinels (320)* – Spell1: Lore of Hysh: Speed of Hysh – Reinforced x 1
Mo Ashraf:It’s a fairly standard Teclis castle build with 2×20 sentinels doing a lot of the heavy lifting. The changes to the standard list were taking only one unit of Windchargers and also taking Gnashing Jaws/Horrorghast as endless spells.
The biggest change is that I took sharpshooters on the sentinels, which meant I wasn’t a 1 drop and instead a 6 drop. Throughout the event, I was out dropped by everyone bar 1 player, so didn’t get the choice often to choose 1st or 2nd. I realised this was a mistake though, and in the future, I will go for the 1 drop as the one game I lost could have potentially been avoided if I chose to make them go first.
The extra endless spell meant that one of the book battle tactics of having 2 endless spells on the field was fairly easy to achieve, especially in the late game when opponent wizards were killed off. But the lack of extra units of windchargers/screen meant that the army did feel fairly small.
The list starts really starts to excel later turns of the game when it can start moving up out of the castle to score more objectives, so early game is about killing from a distance as much as possible.

Kevin Lathers: A rare Gotrek list hits the upper ranks of a GT. Gotrek seems like a natural fit for Fyreslayers: he’s a duardin, they’re a duardin, etc. But he doesn’t really provide much FS don’t already have, such as the ability to kill things in the combat phase. So it’s uncommon to see him.
This list leans hard into him with the Runefather taking Leader of the Daurdrazhal, a CT which allows Gotrek to benefit from the Fyreslayers’ runes (most importantly the movement rune).
He also has a natural buddy in the Grimwrath Berserker, who is basically a mini-me for Gotrek. Between the two of them there’s basically nothing in the game that can stand up to them in the combat phase.
The rest of the list is two units of HGB, brick walls to both screen and hold objectives and Vulkite Berserkers, another objective holder and infantry with a little more mobility. These are supported by a flamekeeper to add a little utility and/or damage to them depending on the situation.
What’s conspicuously missing from the list is a Battlesmith, so this army will be without 4+ Rally, a 5+ ward once per game, and the very helpful Nulsidian Icon which can block offensive/endless spells on a 4+ (almost needed vs. Tzeentch, Seraphon, or LRL). Instead, this list is going to really rely on the 4+ wards from the HGB and Gotrek’s ability to soak up damage as a distraction carnifex.
Oh, and the Molten Infernoth, which does the thing it always does: knock MWs into anything and everything for 40 points.
Overall, this list will take some skilled piloting, but if done right the infantry can hold objectives while Gotrek and Mini-Gotrek clean the board of pests.

Endless Spells and Invocations Molten Infernoth (40)
Kevin Lathers: This list, or ones like it, have been making the rounds recently. The recent changes on rally limits (to 10 wounds maximum per rally) will certainly put a ding in the list, but not one big enough to knock it out.
While occasionally Greyfyrd, Ricky has taken the list as Vostarg in order to buff the Vulkite Berserkers when they charge (giving them +1 to hit and wound).
The list relies on blocks of infantry holding objectives and looking for openings to run + charge (off ember storm prayer) into important units. The 10-man Vulkite units are both screens and hammers while the Hearthguard are immovable block that can strike first into anyone thinking charging it is a good idea. Ricky played 3 different Sylvaneth players and all 3 would have found the combination of fight on death and fight first quite troublesome. Making matters worse for Sylvaneth, a flamekeeper can allow a Vulkite unit to charge them in their own combat phase and then fight first on them, killing things before they can bounce out.
The smaller Vulkites and HGB feed into the 30-man Vulkite unit which can pick anything in the game up off the board with dual-flamekeeper buffs. Between 90 and 120 attacks (if Runefather buff is active) on that 30-man black at 3-damage each means even if an opponent is saving on a 2+ they are going to get toasted.
Once the engine of the flamekeepers gets going it’s hard to stop unless opponents can somehow take them out. But they can be well protected behind the infantry and focus on them means Vulkites are staying alive. And with how many Vulkite and Hearthguard Berserkers there are, this is a lot of wounds to chew through.
Further, this GHB has a lot of low objective count, or tight objective location, battleplans. This means the lack Magmadroths is less of a hamstring than normal. Adding to that, the current GHB disallows shooting into foot heroes. There’s a lot of reasons the current meta favors such a list.
There’s a lot of moving parts and a lot of auras to keep track of, but an experienced Fyreslayers player can navigate these to pull out some fantastic plays.
Oh, and the Molten Infernoth, a staple which can end any GC’s whole career quickly.
I expect this list to continue to see play, even if it has some slight changes, for as long as this GHB lasts.

Now that Ironblasters are 200 points, Ogors really seem to have settled into their groove as an army that can do well in the right hands but isn’t the meta boogeyman, and I’m here for it. While it looked for a while like monster trucks (as in, nearly/all Stonehorns) was going to be the competitive go to, various lists – like this one from Russ – are proving that there’s plenty of play in a nice balanced mix.
So we have the two big Stonehorns here, with Keening Gale on the Frostlord to ensure maximum speed on him or the 3×2 battleline Mournfang – who themselves present a nice middle-ground of speed and killing power, while also being -1 to wound vs shooting weapons and a great way to bypass unleash hell threats with their ‘UH only hits on 6s’ ability.
The 2nd Stonehorn is a Huskard for buff and further prayer support, and then you have the magic number (I reckon!) of two Ironblasters – and this list is in Underguts to ensure they have the extra rend to really be worth their points.
A cheeky FIrebelly also makes an appearance as a cheap caster and GC who has a nice -1 to hit aura spell, which I’m also surprised we don’t see more of. He is Finecast, mind you…
All in all, a lovely balanced list from Russ that proves spam may be tasty (especially for a hungry Ogor) but isn’t always strictly necessary to compete!

Kevin Lathers: Now, here’s a list with some chest hair! And wow, it played into two different KO opponents, notorious counters to almost all Fyreslayers lists.
This is a rarely played list archetype that has seen some tournament success in the past: Grimwrath Berserker spam with MSU AHG for cheap battleline.
Five Grimwrath Berserkers (GWB) and a Celestant Prime add hammers that can be dificult to deal with for opponent. Target priority for opponents becomes difficult as splitting damage can leave a GWB on low wounds but putting all your attacks/damage into one means you’re overkilling a unit with only 7 wounds. Meanwhile, the Celestant Prime is deepstriking anywhere and immediately becoming a problem for anything lacking the right depth of screens.
Speaking of screens, they will be having a difficult time. AHG, while not the hardest hitting units, when combined with a Flamespitter and Infernoth can quickly clear screens or put opponent’s heroes on a countdown. The projected damage combination can’t be underestimated as it will create openings for the GWB and CP. The infernoth particularly can be a nightmare for KO players if it tags a ship and rolls doubles instantly dunking on everything inside.
Further, the AHG are slowing opponent’s units and handicapping their movement plans if they are not taken care of in promptly. The AHG slow combined with a well-placed infernoth can often stop large-based units (like a gargant) from going where they need to.
This is an aggressive list that will force opponents to make hard decisions about what they need to fight and if they choose wrong it can allow one Grimwrath to end their entire gameplan.

Declan It’s fair to say that Sons have been struggling of late with the battle tactics. As an army of 4 big lads, or fewer and some smaller lads, the completion of the Champion required Batttle Tactics is impossible. Not good to wipe out many choices.
But with the release of the Regiments of Reknown into Age of Sigmar Connor has grabbed the Kruleboyz to make the army more interesting. Its difficult to say that warscrolls from the worst army in the ge should improve things but these bring shooting to the Sons… and that all important reach. I like the change up (although I dislike the Regiments of Reknown concept in general because it’s impossible to balance well.)
I’ll go out on a limb here though and say I don’t think this is the start of a resurgence in Sons. They’ll still struggle until GW changes the seasons or takes another look at the Battletome Battle Tactics – well done to Connor for trying something new and taking it to a 4-1.

Peter: We previously mentioned that the flamekeeper charge was in the hero phase. This has been corrected to the combat phase.
Mike Stewart (of Team England fame) is on a personal mission to establish Fyreslayers as a meta-threat, and by Grimnir’s beard, he’s doing it.
There’s a surprising amount of tech and overlapping buffs in effect with this Fyreslayers list. The lynchpin to it all is the double Flamekeepers, who gain the ability to unleash a range of buffs depending on how many units have died nearby. Perhaps the most devastating of these options are a +1 damage effect to a unit, and the ability to make a unit charge in the combat phase – meaning a scary unit of 15 Hearthguard can suddenly threaten you in your OWN turn, which can make positioning/trading well for the opponent a complete nightmare.
To keep up on board control, given FS limited movement options, Mike has opted for a metric tonne of Vulkites. They’re not impressive on their own, but they provide excellent fodder for the Flamekeepers, and with their volume of attacks can still make for a great target for the +1 damage buff – or to just charge something and yoink the objective they thought they’d just taken, with relative impunity. Additionally, with Curse on the Runemaster, if it goes off, then the 30 Vulkites can pretty reliably just nuke something into oblivion with mortals.
Knowing a player of Mike’s calibre, I’m sure there’s all manner of extra sneaky plays baked into his list, but I think that covers the top line – a deceptively fast (with the out of phase charges) list full of ‘surprise hammers’ that creates plenty of ‘damned if you do/don’t’ scenarios for the opponent. Great work!

Declan: Well it seems like Squigs are the go-to option from the new Gloomspite Gitz book at the moment and another 5-0 registered. It great that there are so many squig armies already painted or getting painted – good to see the ladz getting their time at the top. Simon has taken a lot of units that recent readers will have seen, but he’s got some new ones as well. The Gobbapalozza makes an appearance, and it is great to see it. The models were always georgous, but apart from some hardcore Gitz Players (looking at Nathan of Honest Wargamer fame), they were rarely used. They are now more streamlined and able to hand out additional rend to shooting units – hence the 2 units of Moonclan Shootas here.
Simon has also taken the new underworld warband which – Grinkrak the Great – who can give models the chance to fight on death. Great for the large units of Cave Squigs in Simon’s army. You’ll need shooting to deal with this, and even so, D3 Cave Squigs will come back for each herder in the unit. But they do run away with no command abilities possible.
It continues to be a great list, but I do worry about the Cave Squig’s chances long-term against shooting armies. Only time will tell as people get more experience playing with and against the new book.

Ed: What an interesting and extremely top-heavy list! With only 630pts spent on battleline and a mere 25 models on the board, this list favours an intelligent approach where every piece needs to be played correctly. While 2 Maggoth Lords and 10 blightkings can both take and put out a decent amount of wounds they lack the footprint to reliably hold objectives on their own which means that Marco would be leaning heavily on the techy elements of his list and superior positioning to control the board. With a list like this, it doesn’t do to play cagey and reactively. You need to be aggressive and take decisive, perhaps risky, actions to get the best results.
This list has a lot of ways to inflict extra disease points to help supplement his damage output. If he chooses his battles carefully, Marco has the tools to remove important units from his opponent’s army with surgical precision. But he’d need to be cautious never to leave himself open to reprisal because with only 25 models in your whole army, even minor losses can cause big problems. Be’Lakor can neuter a particularly troublesome threat once per game if the dice are on your side. The Lord of Plagues with Tunnel Master is a troublesome Galletian Champion too – harder to put down than the average foot hero and thus requiring extra investment on the part of an opponent to deny your opportunity for battle tactics.
Surprisingly this list leans kind of heavily on magic. Bloab, Be’lakor and a Lord of Plagues with an Arcane Tome. They all have access to some great spells that really maximize this list’s potential but Nurgle is not a strong competitor in the magic game. Marco may have been lucky that his path to glory didn’t pit him against some of the wizardly boogiemen that are common right now like Tzeentch or Teclis.

Alice: This season, Ossiarch Bonereapers really have to work with what they have. With only 2 Galetian Champions in the army, neither exactly standouts, they often have to compensate in other ways. The lone boneshaper exists to pick up a few battle tactics, and has a pretty nice horde clearing spell.
The primary lineholders are the mortek guard, with the Deathriders acting as outriders to grab some objectives and score the faction’s unique battletactic. The units really holding the list up are the Necropolis Stalkers, which benefit heavily from the Galetian Vets battalion so both ranks can attack. In precision stance they can hit with 20 Rend -2 Damage 2 attacks from the primary weapon, and 6 Rend -3 Damage 3 attacks from the special Dread Falchions. While fully buffed from the Soulmason they can reroll 1s and get a bonus attack per model from the Liege. Few things can face a fully buffed unit of these alive and live to tell the tale.
The Crawlers round off the list with the only shooting attacks in the army. While the Rend 0 shots can miss often, that 5 damage will absolutely chunk anything it successfully does hit.

Peter: Luckily, one of our Discord members had seen that Ben had discussed his list on the AoS Coach Discord channel. We reached out and asked if we could use the comments on Woehammer. Ben kindly agreed.
Benjamin Flodda: This was my list this weekend testing the rats for upcoming teams tournaments mostly. Nice bonus to go through the weekend undefeated! I think the list is pretty strong and has play into most things, although it’s pretty fragile and it doesn’t take too much poor positioning for things to start to fall apart. But played carefully, I think it has legs.
So, the warpgrinder is basically to give yourself some deployment flexibility. It gives one-drop opponents something to worry about in their deployment if they plan to give away first, and it requires them to always zone out the rattling cannons. Once the fiends are on the table, they are way too easy to play around imo. So they mostly go in deep strike regardless, although deepstriking clanrats is definitely valid in some cases. And if you place the grinder close to a gnawhole it’s amazing how many points it can score you late-game.
The most fun thing in the list is definitely the clawlord combined with arcane tome and launchon. Everybody expects the boat to be for thanquol (which it certainly can be), but early game you can sling the clawlord into the opponent with the boat (taking a mortal which gives him an extra attack) and with double death frenzy, flaming weapon and with +2 attacks from devious adversary. You can shoot down a screen and often get into fun stuff, turn 1, and with +1 to hit and wound from the warbringer, he can really do work! If you then position him within 3 of something after he fought, if he dies he can fight (this time with 13 attacks on 2+ 2+ and damage 3) or he rolls a 3+ and survives, at which point he can fight in the following hero phase AND when he dies. That little dude took down a megagargant on his own this weekend.

Kevin Lathers: The current GHB is starting to hit its stride and has allowed Greyfyrd to finally shine. This subfaction was always popular, but seldom winning, and now that’s changed. It gives Galletian Champions one extra wound and also two extra artefacts. That’s hard to pass up in the current GHN and Duardin glimmerlust always shines for more treasures.
Ole’s list has some interesting inclusions, particularly a Knight-Incantor and a Doomseeker. The Doomseeker is a cheap GC that can occasionally slap something hard if it can get near its “target.” The Knight-Incantor is a utility piece: he provides an automatic unbind for those pesky Lumineth, Skaven (and indeed, he saw two), and Sylvaneth matches while also giving the army a spellcaster for mystic shield. The biggest oddity here is the “Ash-Cloud Rune” which can block spell casting from targeting units wholly within 12” of the user for a turn. A very situational item that means he was very worried about spellcasting.
But the main crux of his list is the Hearthguard Berserkers and Runefather on Magmadroth. While the Hearthguard Berserkers can hold points and shred anything charging them, the DadDroth is the ultimate in Hammer Technology and with Blood of the Berserker can remove any one threat almost guaranteed. A common setup for the Droth is to use the rend rune, enhance it with the heroic action (or finest hour if the rune enhanced or you don’t need more rend), pray for +1 to wound rolls from the Runesmiter, and send him in as a missile of death.
The Hearthguard Berserkers see the common mix of one unit of poleaxes and one of broad. The broadaxes being buffed by a flamekeeper and benefitting from runes while Poleaxes provide much needed mortal wounds into matchups like Nighthaunt. The flamekeeper can really make Broadaxes shine giving them 3 damage swings, charge in their opponent’s combat phase, or fight on death.
The rest of the list reads as the usual suspects: Runemaster for prayers and fyrewall; Runesmiter for deepstrike and/or Runic Empowerment; and a Nulsidian Battlesmith for spell blocking and wards on the non-HGB.
Overall, the list is going to be a brick on objectives with a dangerous hammer inside.

Brett; Classic, at least in this meta, Stormcast (SCE) list giving probably the best combined arms approach in the current game. Except artillery of course but a combination of hammers from Cavalry (Fulminators), Fire support (Raptors – since artillery really isn’t an AoS “thing”) and Infantry (Protectors). Fulminators going up 10 points have made a lot of people look to Desolators and Tempestors but Fulminators on the charge are still the most consistent high damage hammer around. With Celestial Blades from the Knight Incantor and all out defence they are still hitting on 2s and wounding on 2s with -2 rend and 3 damage. Slightly down with the loss of Bounty Hunters they are good enough to make your opponent either tar pit them (looking at you Gitz) or try to manoeuvre around them.
The Protectors have similar tech piece and are another target for the same buffs. They really benefit from the Battlemage (+2 to movement/charge) and Lord Relictor giving them teleport with an effective 7″ charge. And Starsoul maces, mortals on a 2+. They are a great defensive unit as well with 2+ saves. The problem is that both the Fulminators and the Protectors need to charge and are vulnerable to Unleash Hell. And that brings the Raptors out to play. Their long range shooting could remove screens or, just as easily most other ranged units. Scions of the Storm so they can be kept in reserve, Liberators and even Protectors for screens if they are on the board and really only Sentinels to outrange them.
Has to be said that the Lord Relictor is a very busy fellow, what with prayers, spells and Tunnel Master as well as being the general. That’s a weakness of this list in the Galletian Champion era, all of these heroes are needed elsewhere and none are stellar in combat. Losing only to Lumineth in the second round and coming in a very respectable 3rd Simen proves there is still some life in SCE. Can they get a 2nd book this edition already please?

Units 6 x Kurnoth Hunters with Kurnoth Scythes (500)* – Reinforced x 1 10 x Gossamid Archers (420)* – Reinforced x 1
A nice ‘sampling platter’ list here from Thomas. As ever, the core threats are a big blob of Scythe-noth and a Warsong Rev to handle the arcane side of things. Now, traditionally, Kurnoth are pretty ponderous, but with +3 to normal moves *and* charges from the Spiteswarm Hive, and an additional +3 from the Ghurish Battlemage, they now have an average threat range of 21″ – which is somewhat scarier. Of course, because of when both these spells proc, it means the Hunters also retain their charge bonuses if they choose to teleport – so really, very little of the board is safe, and if you don’t have adequate screens or a way to delete the Kurnoth (much more easily said than done given their durability), then you can expect these things to reap the rewards.
The rest of the list is basically supporting tech – a lone Treelord to fill the behemoth slot of the batreg while also offering Rampage access and the sneaky ‘enemy can’t pile in’ tech – Gossamids (reinforced no less!!) to potentially force melee armies to curl up and cry every time they want to charge something useful, or threaten a fair chance of some nasty spike damage – and plenty of dryads for board control and further screening. Never understimate how powerful -1 to hit and wound is by the way – doesn’t matter if you have a rubbish save if you don’t have to roll any dice.
Well done to Thomas for the 4-1 with a balanced list.
