Peter: There is a theory among some at Woehammer that the Sons are (despite appearances) going to be the leading faction going forwards. Not only that, but that this is the list that will lead the way.
With a Krondspine attached the a kraken the opponent is going to have to seriously consider where they want to focus their attention. Either way they go, they’ll be struggling to cope with the opposite side of that coin. Two Mega-Gargant with additional thanks to flaming weapons and another that has an easier time thanks to the vial of Manticore venom.
It’ll be interesting to see how often this list starts to crop up.

LEADERS Morathi-Khaine (680)** The Shadow Queen (680)** Melusai Ironscale (115)** – General – Command Traits: Zealous Orator – Artefacts of Power: Arcane Tome – Spells: Mindrazor
Danny: It’s Morathi and the Bow Snakes! Backed up by 10 and 5 Blood Sisters and Shadowstalkers and a unit of Heartrenders, for teleporting objective/scoring plays. Simple, but effective – and a 3 drop means it’ll still have a good chance of dictating turn order. Shadowstalkers, despite their nerf in the new book, are becoming increasingly common – probably because, while Heartrenders are great for dropping down and being a nuisance, Shadowstalkers ability to teleport _every_ turn makes them that more flexible, and their 11 wounds on a 4+ makes them able to take a hit, whether while scoring or as an emergency snek-screen.
This list understandably beat Kboyz, Skaven, Sons and Khorne, but Fangs of Sotek probably confounded the stab sneks and could handle Morathi with plenty of ranged chip damage.

Allegiance: Soulblight Gravelords – Lineage: Legion of Night – Mortal Realm: Shyish – Grand Strategy: Vampiric Conquerors – Triumphs: Bloodthirsty
LEADERS Mannfred von Carstein, Mortarch of Night (380) – Lore of the Deathmages: Decrepify Necromancer (125)* – General – Command Trait: Unbending Will – Artefact: Arcane Tome – Lore of the Deathmages: Fading Vigour Vampire Lord (140)* – Lore of the Vampires: Amethystine Pinions
UNITS 5x Blood Knights (195)* 1x Corpse Cart with Balefire Brazier (80)* 30x Deathrattle Skeletons (240)** 10x Dire Wolves (135)** 10x Dire Wolves (135)** 20x Grave Guard (280)* – Great Wight Blades 20x Grave Guard (280)* – Great Wight Blades
Danny: Legion of Night is a relatively off-meta pick for Soulblight these days, so it’s nice to see it being picked alongside Mannfred, which is thematically appropriate, and doing well with an unusual list.
The aforementioned Manny is a familiar sight and an excellent all-round utility piece. But he’s rarely backed up by _30_ Deathrattle, who everyone said were too fragile against bounty hunters to reinforce, and have thus been typically run in msu given their cheap, cheap cost of 80 pts making them a cost-effective screen. Deathrattle can bring back models on a 4+ when they activate though – so having a unit big enough to take a hit and activate 2nd means there’s a good chance they regen plenty before the end of the phase – combo that with Expert Conqs and unless you super-commit and wipe the entire squad (30 wounds on a 4+ with AoD, with a ward of 6 re-rolling 1s, and quite possibly some debuffs such as -1 to wound from the corpse cart) – you can see how it might be tricky to steal an objective off them.
The next unusual element of this list is not Graveguard, as they’re a standard hammer, but simply taking two bricks of them. And why not? They’re so good! Going lighter on Blood Knights (just the token 5, you’d be mad not to take any) frees up the points needed, and now there are two scary blobs, either/both of which can be buffed to Shyish and back by the Necromancer, vampire lord AND Manny’s CA (+1 hit and wound).
A nice spin on things that performed brilliantly, losing only to Khorne, who might have their weaknesses, but do not count ‘a shit load of attacks and 6″ pile ins’ among them.

Danny: Big Waagh are now one of the least represented factions at tournament level, and I can see why – first book of the edition syndrome (I know it was a twin with Stormcast, but one twin is always technically born first…) and their meta-lists have a high skill floor. So it’s great to see them hanging on in there.
This list represents what is looking like the way to go with Big Waagh for this season – msu ‘Ardboyz. They’ve always been a cost-effective package, and while vulnerable to Bounty Hunters, enough of them in msu format still asks some hard questions of your opponent in terms of target priority.
They’re backed up here by the seemingly entrenched HQ combo, although spicily, Thomas here also throws in a Wardokk with the ‘fight last’ spell as an additional tech piece – something the Wurrgog also has access to but rarely uses given his laser-eyes are so clutch.
Now for the elephant in the room. Or should I say, the Gutrippaz in the bin. Yes, this list takes a unit of Gutrippaz. With no support. Why? Let’s ask Thomas. Someone, please ask Thomas. The only thing I can think of is that they’re in Expert Conquerors as a way to count as 30 and, y’know, if their janky ability goes off -1 to hit against 20 wounds isn’t too bad. I guess?
Either way, congrats for a clutch place in the top 5 with an odd duck of a list that took down some difficult match ups!

Endless Spells & Invocations Purple Sun of Shyish (70) Ravenak’s Gnashing Jaws (60)
Brett: Seraphon but, interestingly, not Thunderlizard. The Seraphon book hasn’t been brought up to 3rd Edition standard yet but remains one of the best and most complete battletomes. We haven’t seen a lot of Skinks at the top recently but maybe Eternal Conquerors will bring them back into the light.
Lots of heroes starting with the Saurus Astrolith Bearer, buffing casting and providing a ward within 12″ his Celestial Conjuration Point (CCP) generation is probably amount the most powerful ability. CCP let you summon units, if you have more than 6 you can summon. A Slann General and Astrolith together give 2D3 CCP a turn making at least 6 CCP a turn feasible. That’s 10 Skinks as a minimum. The Starmaster is a nasty wizard with an inbuilt Spell Portal, 3 casts, +1 to cast/dispel/unbind and unlimited range on his dispel/unbind. Both his warscroll spell (Comet’s Call) and Stellar Tempest deal MW. His command trait allows 1 reroll for a cast/dispel/unbind in each hero phase (2 per turn). He’s built to get both the Purple Sun and Gnashing Jaws out on command and make if difficult to get your spells off.
Supporting him are another wizard and a priest, granting another 2 dispel/unbind attempts as well on top of their casts. The Starpriest is granting rerolls for hit rolls of 1 to a unit. The army has a range of offensive options, the salamander hunting packs with high quality attacks for targets with good saves, the Bastilidon for a little of everything. And the large Skink pack for removing low wound, poor save blobs. Having the 2 loadouts on the Skinks is an interesting play, 2 of the units are ideal for screening or taking objectives (where they count as 30) and the other for damage. With curse the 30 strong unit is on average able to produce MW. Special mention to the Purple Sun (MVP this season so far) and Gnashing Jaws.
Gnashing Jaws is a really strong choice now we are seeing a lot of armies with really strong but slow infantry (Fyreslayers, Kurnoth, Stormcast, Maggotkin). The potential MW output into a unit with a move of 4″ is eye watering. Something to remember is it can affect your foot heroes. This army is really set up to deal with hordes with massed 1 damage attacks but can, with a combination of spells/abilities and some stronger units pivot.
The range of lists taken down in the event shows the flexibility and balance of the army as well as the great generalship. More than just winning each round Ridge scored well in every round to secure the win over Rueben. A head to head between them would be interesting.

Allegiance: Sons of Behemat Tribe: Taker Tribe Grand Strategy: Make the Land Tremble Triumph: Inspired
Leader/Battleline Gatebreaker Mega-Gargant (525pts)* – Artefact: Arcane Tome – Spell: Flaming Weapon Kraken-Eater Mega-Gargant (490pts)* – General – Glowy Lantern – Very Acquisitive – Krakenskin Sandals
Core Battalions *Bosses of the Stomp – Magnificent **Bounty Hunters
Total: 1,995pts
Brett: Another strong showing from the Sons, this time with the less popular Mancrushers in the army as well. The army build is quite clever, creating 2 wizards in an army with next to no magic but still maintaining key artefacts. With endless sells on the rampage Wizards and Priests are almost mandatory inclusions now for the dispel/unbind. The text for Glowy Lantern is pretty cool too, apparently this is a smart Kraken-Eater.
No Montrously Tough here but Flaming Weapon on the Gatebreaker takes the flail to flat 4 damage. Even on his bottom profile that +1 damage is still making a difference with -3 Rend. The Kraken Eater is both well equipped with Very Acquisitive giving both the extra artefact and allows equipping 2. The second is Krakenskin Sandals making the his stomp a more reliable. Bosses of the Stomp provides the 3rd artefact which is on the Gate Breaker. The Mancrushers being in Bounty Hunters is potentially a solid move, it doubles their effect on Galetian Veterans of course.
Mancrushers are typically more vunerable to ranged attackes with their lower wound counts. Pity no one really brought that many, the Thunder Lizard Seraphon list having the most. It goes to show that in a spell heavy infantry meta, even with the risk of a Purple Sun, the giants have a place. The weakening of some shooting (SCE) will help that and they were never bad, so after 6 months we might start to see quite a few back on tables. It will be interesting to see what effect there is on the meta if there are more Sons on the table. To state the obvious, a very effective army with interesting choices that double down on it’s anti infantry roll. Congratulations on 5/0 in a tight field. A head to head between Reuben and Ridge would be quite a spectacle.

Brett: More familar territory here with a Nighthaunt Scarlet Doom army still it has it’s own quirks similar to the armies we’ve already looked at. From the Grand Strat (Fight or Flight – no enemies within 6″ of any NH unit contesting an objective) to the block of Spirit Hosts there are nuiances to the list. If you are going first the Grand Strat seems easy since NH can always fall back but with 10 drops going second is more likely. Inspired is a good choice for NH since battleshock isn’t really a thing for them.
4 reasonably standard heroes, providing damage reduction, spells and healing for multiple units. Master of Magic is particularly good with the Purple Sun allowing rerolls of a crucial spell. The unit selection is more interesting in this army. Spirit Hosts took a hit from 2nd to 3rd edition losing their MW on 6s ability for a body guard effect. With 3 wounds though a block of 9 is going to be tanky especially with Spirit Hosts to return a model every turn. The Myrmourn are here as stabby spell stealers, very useful in the Endless Spell era we are currently enjoying. The Chainrasps are really only here to meet battleline, they will probably provide some screening or more likely backline objective holding but will evaporate if pushed too hard.
The Bladegheist are here as the damage dealers, doing mortal wounds on the charge to fall back and charge again. Worse of course they get an extra attack and as bounty hunters are doing 2 damage into your GV units. I think people are getting a handle on Bladegheists now, you need to make sure you understand their threat range or try to remove them with shooting. They are devestating if they can hit you in full formation with the current rules meaning all will hit you most of the time. His only loss was against a Maggotkin list with 3 Lords and 12 Blightlords. With the Blightlords the Bladegheist wouldn’t get additional damage and the Maggotkin army would have superior magic. Their MW output and “shooting” would have been effective at blunting the NH.
Still don’t under estimate Bladegheist, putting down Sons in the first round and then the Hog spam in the last should give an idea of the damage potential. Nate’s first round match against Oliver from Season of War is now up on the Season of War website for anyone interested. Having watched it I am amazed at how tanky the Spirit Hosts turned out to be, great move.

Endless Spells & Invocations Purple Sun of Shyish (70)
Brett: Wow where do I even start with this list, 181 wounds and 40 little pigs with more small heroes than most nations can handle. This list is making maximum use of Icebone’s MW on 6s to hit with melee weapon. Grand Strategy is to control a piece of terrain at the end of the battle. 3 casts from the Prophet and Shaman, including the Shaman is a great idea given the chance the Prophet will blow himself up. They concentrate on winding up their crazy mates with their spells.
The Savage Big Bosses have an ability to let another unit with 3″ of an enemy, wholly within 12″, fight immediately after this unit. That’s why there are so many, they are slow but they can fairly easily do 24, 2 damage attacks before letting so the Big Stabbas hit you (or more likely a small boar unit). With so many boars this is a solid tactic letting you concentrate a small castle of pain near an objective and the boars go wide. Combined with the Prophet lifting his mask and the Big Stabbas getting into combat this is enough damage to down a Gargant.
The boarboys and Maniacs are always going to be best on the charge so you want to make sure that isn’t an option first round. And I haven’t mentioned it but there is a reason for the 2 wizards, Purple Sun to eat something important. No shame in drawing against Maggotkin who could outlast most of the charges and blunt them with disease points. His only loss was to our 2nd place Gargants, again understandalbe because you are relying on swingy units to drop them.

The Top Three AoS Lists
Allegiance: Stormcast Eternals – Stormhost: Hammers of Sigmar (Scions of the Storm) – Grand Strategy: Take What’s Theirs
Leaders Celestant-Prime, Hammer of Sigmar (325)* Lord-Commander Bastian Carthalos (300)* Knight-Relictor (140)* – General – Command Trait: High Priest – Prayer: Translocation Lord-Castellant (155)* – Artefact: Arcane Tome – Spell: Celestial Blades
Battleline 10 x Judicators with Skybolt Bows (400)** – Reinforced x 1 5 x Liberators (115)** – Heavens-wrought Weapon and Shield – 1x Grandweapons 5 x Liberators (115)*** – Heavens-wrought Weapon and Shield – 1x Grandweapons
Units 10 x Protectors (450)*** – 4x Starsoul Maces – Reinforced x 1
Brett: A strong return to hero hammer, and after a year of experimenting it’s probably the best way to play Stormcast Eternals (SCE), with a very hero heavy list taking first. The list isn’t without it’s tricks however. Using a Knight Relictor vs a Lord Relictor, an uncommon choice, but when you are staying close to a particular unit – the judicators – the 6″ prayer range isn’t important. The model is more available and importantly saved the 5 points needed to make the list work. Bastian hits very hard (D4) and once per turn can inflict mortal wounds on a unit by rolling D6 against their wound characteristic, on a 6 inflicting a mortal wound. Into a Mega Gargant that’s an average of 6MW per turn. Anyone that plays 40k will recognise the Terminator block at the heart of the list, 10 Protectors. With half the models having Glaives they have +1 to save and can easily receive +1 to hit. As bounty hunters they receive a +1 to damage (D2 against Galletian Veterans). They are also inflicting 4D3 mortal wounds 80% of the time.
The Lord Castellan either stays with the Protectors (+1 to hit and +1 to Save) or the Liberators making the Liberators save on 2s with a 6+ ward near objectives. And Call for Aid means that there are 15 Liberators not 10 in this list. Even placing the judicators into Eternal Conquerors plays a roll, they will count as 30 models on objectives and attacking them exposes you to Unleash Hell. Usually they have the Relictor to translocate them to the rear, a real late game objective threat. The Celestant-Prime is a hero deleter, the trickiest part is whether to use him Turn 2 or 3. Usually in that turn Orrery will guarantee a successful charge. Without his shooting and arriving turn 3 that’s an average of 12wounds into the hero of his choice. Like Bastian he has a 4+ ward.
A very balanced list that deserves to go 5/0 it’s only real weakness is mobility. The combination of Scions and Steadfast March help a lot there as well. It was a very low scoring victory (65) indicating that board control and forcing the opponent off their game was a major part of the victory. In other words a very good general won using this list.

Army Faction: Stormcast Eternals – Army Type: Scions of the Storm – Army Subfaction: Hammers of Sigmar – Grand Strategy: Take What’s Theirs – Triumphs: Inspired
Brett: Another SCE list doing well, it’s only loss was to the eventual winner. In contrast to our first list this has brought some needed mobility. Interesting choices of Dracothian’s here; Tempestor’s (ranged) and Desolators (axe murderers). Tempestor’s will have an average of 4 hits from their 3 ranged attacks on top of their Dracothian’s breath attack. On top of that by using a unit of 2 for the Desolators they will almost always have an extra 2 attacks. Stormstrike Chariots are very mobile, hard to kill and their impact mortals make them dangerous to most opponents. Along with the Dracothian’s we have the Purple Sun and Krondys. The Purple sun is difficult to cast but Krondys gets a +3 to cast at his top profile making the Sun a CV of 5 and probably on the board from Turn 1. Importantly this list has 4 denies which is a big part of the current meta.
No Holy Command is included on the list but Thunderbolt Volley is likely, given the unreinforced unit of Judicators. All up a very different list to the winner with a lot of mobility but few units so a focus on killing your opponents. The lists he faced in this run up were interesting but ultimately until the last round very exposed to this combination of mobility and Mortal Wounds. Wound output into that Protector brisk wouldn’t have been enough. Well done on the 4/1 result.

Allegiance: Sons of Behemat – Tribe: Taker Tribe – Grand Strategy: Tame the Land – Triumphs: Inspired
Brett: Stompy boys are back, well they never really went away, they aren’t as common or as dominate as they were late last year but they are still dangerous. 4 big boys that count as 20 models on objectives means the list can win the objective game without moving very far. The combination of Trait and Artefact on the General make him a hard target (20) with a very nasty stomp attack. All of the artefacts in Taker Tribe increase or do damage and this is one of the better ones. The match ups are very interesting but a combination of limited wound output (Nighthaunt and Idoneth) and durability (Nighthaunt, DoK and Idoneth) would have made it hard to compete.
Bladegheist could do a lot of wounds on the charge but are very vunerable to the low number of high damage attacks including the ranged attacks the Gargants put out. You can’t heal back 10/12 models a turn easily. The same is true for all one wound troop choices which affects the impact of Namarti or Blood Sisters/Aelves. Allopexes won’t do a lot into a Gargant either with their relatively low attack count and wounds, they will tend to bounce and get smashed. Match ups into Morathi would have been interesting given her damage per turn limit and defeating a SCE army with 9 Vanguard Raptors is solid. It shows the impact of the changes from the new season that limits the use of Thuderbolt Volley. 9 x D2 shots per turn isn’t terrifying a Sons army.
A solid performance with a previous favourite showing they are still a good meta choice in the new season.

That’s 7 casts and 7 denies a turn. That also gives a lot of Wizards to accompany the Tzaangors (Ornate Totems) giving mortal wounds on a 4. Running the Tzaangors as a 20 block in Expert Conquerors gives you a lot of bodies for objective control and maintains Savagery Unleashed. Save stacking, hit buffing and leadership shenanigans are what Tzeentch is all about and this army takes that to the limit. Very hard to play but very hard to play against because you have to know the army to understand what to deal with first.
The low scores suggest that Cody had issues scoring early with only one unit to really contest objectives, otherwise you are trying to out-kill the opponent. Depending on initiative (including deciding proving grounds) it can be hard to score consistently in the early turns, or before your opponent runs out of models. His only loss was to an army well outside the top 10 but almost perfectly able to counter Tzeentch. They could limit the range of any spells in the first 2 rounds and Allopexes/Namarti could make short work of the troops.
Tricky to make this list work and it demonstrates the difficulties in scoring well in the new season without a lot of mobility and flexibility. At the same time the sort of MSU lists that flexibility encourages won’t succeed against a list like this.
A few things at play in this tournament that are unusual. The podium is dominated by a few factions that have faded in more recent times. A full 1/4 of the lists in this tournament were Stormcast. Stormcast play well into Stormcast. Stormcast is relatively low in damage output something Bastian and Krondys can take advantage of. There was also a team tournament the day before which might have reflected in the players present. Overall though the lists and placings continue to show that there is good balance, even if at times it doesn’t feel like it, in AoS 3. The game currently lets good generals shine (and Maggotkin float, they aren’t shiny).
Here are the AoS Meta Stats for all the Grand Tournaments that have taken place between Monday 4th July and Sunday 10th July 2022. These are all the GT’s that I can locate on Tabletop.to or BestCoastPairing, if you know of any others please send me a link and I’ll add them.
Once again, another quiet week, with only 3 Grand Tournaments.

Drowned Men continue to lead the way with a win rate of 69.1% despite Maggotkin overall only having a win rate of 53.8%. Nighthaunt and Scarlet Doom find themselves near the top now as predicted by Danny some weeks ago. Meanwhile at the bottom of the table Ossiarch Bonereapers/Petrifex Elite are the only subfaction below 30% win rate.
Interestingly Fyreslayers have Lofnir (6 PLayers) with a win rate of 51.7% and the more popular Greyfyrd (9 Players) at 35.2%, are people playing the wrong subfaction?
Next Week
I’ll have graphs. Because nothing says stats like some graphs…..

Once again, another quiet week, with only 3 Grand Tournaments. Two of these were run using the new GHB, while the other was just a little event called the World tSports Champions…..

Chaos continue to lead the way in the win rates. While Order pick up the most number of armies represented, most 5-0’s and most 4+. When you compare army share to the number of battletomes each Grand Alliance possess you can see that Order are overrepresented, while Chaos are vastly under represented:

What can we take away from this? Perhaps that Order factions are more appealing than Chaos? New players gravitate towards Order? The Chaos range needs updated miniatures? Or all of the above?

Factions in Bold are those with 3rd Edition Battletomes published before or during this time period
I’ve highlighted all those faction win rates in red which are outside of the parameters that players have stated would make the game roughly balanced (45-55%).
I’m looking at the bottom of the table as I’m writing this, and its hard not to overlook Fyreslayers, Gloomspite Gitz and Ossiarch Bonereapers with win rates of less than 40%! Gloomspite Gitz are getting their new book this year, so hopefully we’ll see that improve. Fyreslayers have been mugged by Games Workshop rules writers, and it just shows how awful that book is. I feel for long term Fyreslayers players…
At the top of the table Beasts of Chaos now currently lead the way with a win rate of 67.1%! They’ve gone from trash tier to S tier in the space of 3 months. Slaves to Darkness are a bit of an anomaly at the top there, and this is primarily driven by a few high level players who vastly our performed the faction this month, much like Anthony Trentanelli did a few weeks ago with Skaven. Maggotkin of Nurgle and Seraphon win rates have both dropped, but its too early to tell why, as the new rules for Seraphon only really came into effect last week.

Factions in Bold are those with 3rd Edition Battletomes published before or during this time period
Maggotkin of Nurgle are a bit of a strange faction. While you have one of the meta leading Subfactions inside the tome with Drowned Men (68.0%, at the bottom of the pack you have Befouling Host (40.0%). It’s not an irregularity either as 7 players have played that subfaction and one claimed 5 wins at an event and another 5 losses. This suggests to me that while Drowned Men is a simple list to play, Befouling Host is completely the opposite and requires good memory and skill from the pilot.
After almost a year of publication now, both Stormcast and Orruk Warclan battletomes are beginning to show a little lag behind the other updated factions (apart from Fyreslayers of course). As the first of the Battletomes perhaps this has played into their stats slightly as the rules writers learn from their mistakes (apart from Fyreslayers of course) when writing the newer tomes.
Scarlet Doom shows that its the faction of choice for a reason in the new Nighthaunt battletome (60.0%) however, its still early days for this battletome and the other factions could be more complicated to pick up and play. However 60.0% win rate for any subfaction is too high and so they may need a future nerf at some point.
Going forwards as the weeks go on, I’ll be keeping an eye out for Grinin’ Blades beginning to get some more play with their updated allegiance abilities after not being placed at all due to all the Kruleboyz players choosing Big Yellers – this will change. I expect to see them nearing the 50% mark and above. Likewise with Skaven, I expect them to begin climbing the rankings as their new rules come into effect.
THE SUPRISE
I said I had a surprise, and here it is!
Woehammer will be doing a player ranking system for the new General’s Handbook based on the Elo system used by Chess.
Who gets ranked?
Everyone who takes part in a two day event using the General’s Handbook: Pitched Battles Season 1 2022-23. Each week I’ll update the scores of the players as they happen and post them in a separate rankings post which will be published every Saturday.
All players will begin with a rating of 1,000 at the beginning of the season, player ratings will be carried over into season 2 and beyond in the future.
I’ve included the current rankings below (there’s only been two GT’s using the new Handbook) which includes everyone at present. However, I will limit this to the top 20 as more players are ranked. The full downloadable player rankings will be available on the site to download next weekend.
Here are the AoS Meta Stats for all the Grand Tournaments that have taken place between Monday 20th June and Sunday 26th June 2022. These are all the GT’s that I can locate on Tabletop.to or BestCoastPairing, if you know of any others please send me a link and I’ll add them.
There were only 2 Grand Tournaments last week, a quiet week! But both have 32 players with a nice mix of factions.
64 players took part in 2 GT’s over the last week.

Subfaction Stats
Next week, I’ll have built up four weeks worth of data and at this point I will transition the stats over four weeks rather than a single week. This will helpfully give us more reliable data. At some point I’ll go backwards as well to the start of AoS 3.
Here are the AoS Meta Stats for all the Grand Tournaments that have taken place between Monday 13th June and Sunday 19th June 2022. These are all the GT’s that I can locate on Tabletop.to or BestCoastPairing, if you know of any others please send me a link and I’ll add them.
There was a total of 3 Grand Tournaments last week, a quiet week! That being said, one of them was the awesome UK tSports Champions, which our very own Declan was invited to take part in. You can read up on his prep here.
286 players took part in 10 GT’s over the last week.

On Reddit Warhammer 40k has the Meta Mondays posted by the brilliant u/JCMS85 on r/WarhammerCompetitive. So why can’t we have one for AoS? Well we can….
Here are the stats for all the Grand Tournaments that have taken place between Monday 6th June and Sunday 12th June 2022. These are all the GT’s that I can locate on Tabletop.to or BestCoastPairing, if you know of any others please send me a link and I’ll add them.
There was a total of 10 Grand Tournaments last week, however only 9 had data available to analyse. Valleycon 2022 was a 26 player tournament but no lists were available at the time of publishing these stats.
286 players took part in 10 GT’s over the last week.

Despite Nighthaunt and Daughters of Khaine being released now for a couple of weeks, we still see Seraphon, Legion of the First Prince and Maggotkin of Nurgle topping the win rates. On top of that Seraphon managed to grab three 5-0 results this week.
As a rough guide factions should have win rates of between 45-55% to ensure the game is roughly balance (true balance being impossible). The above shows that 7 factions have exceeded this band (including the new Daughters of Khaine) with Seraphon and Legion of the First Prince have exceeded the 60% win rate barrier. There are also seven factions below this ideal range, including one of the new battletomes for 3rd Edition (Fyreslayers). While Stormcast Eternals have a win rate of 45% we have to bear in mind that this is the most popular faction and is often the ones new players use when first playing Age of Sigmar, so the range of skill of the players inside this faction will vary widely, while many of the other faction will have a dedicated fan base or have tournament players looking for a faction that provides them the best chance at good results.

The faction stats are pretty much replicated above with Lumineth Realm-Lords/Zaitrec joining the +60% club this week. Meanwhile despite Anthony Trentanelli’s heroics with Skaven recently (claiming two GT’s and going 4-1 this week) they still sit below 45% with a miserable 37.9% win rate. Will their new battletome and the Generals Handbook see a change in this though? A new tome can’t come soon enough for Gloomspite Gitz and Ossiarch Bonereapers….
Skybert Turneringen took place in Norway on 14th and 15th May. It involved 12 players vying to be crowned champion in a 5 game tournament.
Before I jump into the Top Three, I wanted to remind everyone of our friendly Discord server where you can join in the conversation with the Woehammer crew and suggest articles or series for the website.
